This document is a 709-word essay written by Preston Liew Ru Ping discussing the pressures faced by young people in their studies. The main causes of pressure identified are too much work from teachers, financial problems, and academic competition among students. Too much pressure can lead to anxiety disorders and mental health issues. The essay recommends balancing work with leisure activities and maintaining physical health to help relieve pressure and anxiety.

3. We, the humans are very delicate yet complex species. We are delicate because we can get
emotional; we are complex because we can handle a lot of pressure (different people have different
limits) before we lose our mind and get mentally retarded. As we grow older, we tend to get more
tensed whenever we’re under pressure. We get more logical and more aware of issues growing up.
That is why we’ll get more responsibilities, more work, and more issues. In some countries young
people have little leisure time and are under a lot of pressure to work hard in their studies. The main
causes of this issue is too much work being handled over by teachers, financial problems, and
everyone will compete with each other to some extent.
As a university student myself, I realized that most of my spare time is used to deal with my
assignments. Most secondary school students today are not only busy with school’s academic
schedule, they’re also busy with extra tuition. The reason being most of the time during lessons, there
will be a lot of distractions such as chatting noises from the talkative students. This kind of distraction
is hard to avoid as it’s hard for one person to control a crowd. Another reason would be the teacher is
not paying attention to the poor graded students. That is why most students need extra tuition not
only because they can afford the extra payment, it’s because they want to improve their grades, and
they have the will the go further. They’ll be busy with school work and they’ll be busy with homework
from their extra tuition.
Most universities today provide scholarships for high achievers. It’s not easy to be a high
achiever because a lot of time is needed to be spent on understanding and memorizing a lot of
different subjects all together at the same time. High achievers with financial problems will need to
rely on that amount of money so that they won’t burden their parents with paying the expensive
university tuition fees. Not only high achievers with financial problems need to maintain their
scholarship status, rich or well-to-do family ones will want to keep their scholarship status if they still
have some humanity left in them. Gaining and maintaining a scholar’s status is a very difficult job. But
4. it will be worth it, since nowadays we upload our work to our online portfolio and it will be shown
publicly to the world.
As we get old and educated enough to enter a university, we will realize that life will start to get
hard because of the level of competitiveness between each student. There will be students with
diverse skills that will take them very far and there will be students with just enough amount of skills
or knowledge to last them for their university period. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing, but it’s just that
they’ll have to get through more hardships and spend more time. There’s a huge gap between
university level and secondary school level. Students will have to choose the course suitable for them
and they will need to adapt to the level of education quickly in order to not get left out. Within a few
months, there will be huge changes to each individual. They’ll be able to withstand pressure more, be
more hardworking, and more observant.
All in all, the reason that young people have little leisure time and are under a lot of pressure to
work hard in their studies is because of too much work given from teachers, financial problems and
the competitiveness among students. Too much pressure may lead to severe anxiety, an unpleasant
state of inner turmoil, and it’s also a type of mental disorder. An individual with anxiety will have
nervous behaviors such as pacing back and forth, an increase in stress-level, getting emotional
easily, muscle weakness, etc. Young people should balance their social life with work, as the saying
goes “all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy”. To feel better, we should have hobbies and
exercise more. Doing something that makes you happy and sweating intensely do make a person feel
more relieved. We should always remember: “a healthy body is a healthy mind”.
