INTERESTING QUATRAINS
[A] s you may have seen by now, the Centuries of Nostradamus are very
obscure. I want to give some interpretations for a few of the
quatrains. You should know however that you will only find successfull
interpretations here, which doesn't imply all prophecies Nostradamus made
were successfull. Some unfullfilled prophecies contain specific dates on
which however nothing of the things specified by his prophecy happened.
His most notable success is ofcourse the French Revolutions. Nostradamus
predicted a renewal of times in 1792 (Epistle, para. 42) and indeed in 1792
the French monarchy ended and the Republic was born. Even a new calendar
was attempted, giving his prediction extra depth.
The interpretations you will find here may not seem that spectacular to the
contemporary reader, but you should keep in mind that Nostradamus'
prophecies have a span of more than two millenia. Our current time is just
a little speck in such an amount of time.
You should always be aware that no interpretation of a prophecy can be
considered final. The following topics are available, in chronological
order :
[*] William III becomes king of England (1689)
[*] Will the world end in 1999 ?

WILLIAM III, KING OF ENGLAND
One possible translation for IV-89 is:
Thirty of London will conspire secretly
Against their King, the enterprise on the sea:
He and his courtiers will have a distaste for death,
A fair King elected, native of Friesland.
This quatrain can be very well applied to the Glorious Revolution of
1688-89. William III wanted all lords who proposed his "liberating" England
from James II to sign a document in order to prevent being doublecrossed by
them. The exact number of conspirators against the king is unknown. This
conspiring did cause a busy sailing back and forth between England and
Holland before William III set sail on his expedition. James II and his
clique saw themselves without military support and decided not to oppose
William III and fled.
It's not known whether William III was fair or not, but he was from
Friesland, a northern province of the Netherlands. It's interesting that
during Nostradamus' day there was no possible Dutch candidate for the
English throne.

2. THE END OF THE WORLD IN 1999
One of the most known quatrains is probably X-72:
The year 1999, seventh month,
From the sky will come a great King of Terror:
To bring back to life the great King of the Mongols,
Before and after Mars to reign by good luck.
Nostradamus predicts some terrible force will come in July 1999. When the
original Angolmois is read as Mongolois then we get the great King of the
Mongols which is ofcourse Genghiz Khan. Another possibility is Angoumois,
which refers to the House of Angoulême that provided some kings for the
French throne. None of these would qualify as a King of Terror which can
not be said of Ghenghiz Khan. The last line refers to wars, before and
after the year 1999.
If this prophecy is not fulfulled in 1999 than it is possible that
Nostradamus put this quatrain in his Centuries only to appease Church
authorities. By making a prophecy that clearly agreed with the general
idea, that evil events occur at the end of a century, he might be trying to
fool the Inquisition.
I do not believe Nostradamus predicts the end of the world since he wrote
in the preface that his predictions would last to 3797.
