1. INSTITUTION PROFILE
The University College of Engineering –Dindigul (UCED)
was established on 15th September, 2009, by Government
of Tamil Nadu, with a vision to provide strong technical
base in various engineering disciplines for Independent
India to compete in par with International Community. It
was merged with Anna University, Chennai in the year
2012. The University College of Engineering has
developed into an important centre of engineering
education and earned reputation both in India and
abroad. Currently, the college runs five Under Graduate
Engineering programmes namely Civil, Mech, ECE, EEE
and CSE.
ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of English has well qualified and
experienced faculty members to provide strong
background to engineering students to cope up with the
needs of Industrial expectations. It gives practical thrust
and humane touch to the teaching-learning process,
thereby enabling engineering students to cultivate a
holistic understanding of Socio-economic reality and the
role of technology for sustainable development. The
Department has Multimedia English Language
Laboratory (MELL) for activity based learning.
ABOUT THE PROGRAMME
In a constantly changing environment, communication
and soft skills are essential part to meet the challenges of
everyday life. The dramatic changes in global economies
over the past years have been matched with the
transformation in technology and these are all impacting
on education, the workplace and our home life. To cope
with the increasing pace and change of modern life,
students need communication and soft skills such as the
ability to deal with stress and frustration. Today’s
students will have many new jobs over the course of their
lives, with associated pressures and the need for
flexibility. Realizing this fact, the members of faculty have
to be updated through this type of programmes and in
return they may enhance the skills for the betterment of
student community in general. This course GE 6674-
Communication and Soft Skills Development is being
offered to the students of all branches of Engineering of
affiliated institutions of Anna University.
OBJECTIVES
This Faculty Development Training Programme is
intended to provide opportunity for teachers employed in
Institutions affiliated to Anna University to start handling
this course with utmost confidence and also for
upgrading their knowledge in the areas of
Communication and Soft Skills Development. This
programme is intended to all faculty members who
would also wish to pursue research in Communication
and Soft Skills.

GUIDELINES FOR PARTICIPANTS
 Only Anna University affiliated college faculty
members from the departments offering the
course will be considered for priority.
 Only 25 participants will be selected, based on
the eligibility criteria and the order of receiving
completed application forms.
 Participation fee will not be collected.
 Lunch will be provided on all the days in which
sessions will be conducted.
 The classes start at 9.00 a.m and will be over by
4.45 p.m. with lunch break from 12.15 p.m to
1.30 p.m on all the days.
