This document discusses the use of open information systems and Web 2.0 technologies to improve learning. It provides an example of implementing various Web 2.0 tools in an educational technology course, including a wiki for publishing notes, a question and answer system, and blogs. The example found that students were highly active in helping each other through the question and answer system. It concludes that creating an open information system can improve learning dynamics by selecting tools that fit how learning occurs and motivating community participation.

70. (My) wiki experience
✤ Writing very simple. Students got skill very easily
✤ Hard to learn about IP problems (how to cite, how to use external
resources...)
✤ Students does not look at others....classroom disposition replicated
✤ Classroom communications is between teacher and students. It is the
same in the wiki
71. (My) WebLog experience
✤ Hard to maintain.... (lack of perseverance)
✤ It is difficult to reuse for other course editions
✤ Good to spread news and alerts
✤ Better RSS feed then other sources
✤ Use the BLOG dokuwiki plugin
72. (My) social networks experience
✤ Generic social networks are apart of what happen in classroom.
(about learning, of course)
✤ Teacher = intruder
✤ Better to use specific social networks...
73. (My) Q&A experience
✤ Great success! students helps each other... they question and answer a
lot! (probably they are more accesible than the teacher)
✤ Needs some “community management” work (play, rewards, positive
feedback...)
✤ Big differences between students (some very actives...more
actives...much more watching and occassionally participate)
✤ The Q&A dynamic EXISTS between them previously.
75. Create an Open Information
System is easy, if you choose the
right way...
76. ✤ Try to find wich learning dynamics are stablished in your
classroom.
✤ Selecting the software tools for specific functions that fits
on the learning dynamics
✤ The good news: are tons of open software!
✤ Look specially for syndications features !!
✤ Use community manager skills to motivate them
✤ Aggregate them in a mash-up for discovering
77. Always look
on the Open Side of life....
....your students and others will
thanks you for it
78. Thank you!
