Joy division-background information The group was also known as warsaw most commonly known as joy division They originated from Manchester ,England The main genre of joy division music was punk-rock They were signed to a label called factory With the 4 member of joy division being Ian Curtis, peter hook, Stephen Morris and finally Bernard Sumner

Band formation in July 1976 both members Sumner and hook long time friends were inspired to form a group after attending the sex pistols concert and not being impressed with the representation on punk-rock After finding their next two members ,the buzzcock manager another famous group suggested the band call them selves stiff kitten...to which the band then decided to change their which was formerly known as warszawa The band then decided and finally changed their name to joy division which was a Nazi prostitution camp which went on to cause the band much controversy
6. The flag inset is the one of the hated Nazi to which the band were inspired controversially inspired for their name

Unknown pleasures In April 1979 the band released their first album called unknown pleasures , The album was recorded at strawberry studios The album was also produced by martin hannett The album cover was designed by pertersaville The album initially went on to sell 10,000 copies The albums highest position reached 71 in august 1980 The album spent 136 weeks in the charts from release In 2000 Q magazine names the album the 19th of the 100 greatest British album ever ... SCOREE!!!
11. ,CURTIS ILL HEALTH AND SUICIDE SHOCK !!! In January 1980 whilst the band was on their European tour, being an epileptic sufferer Curtis experienced 2 big seizures At this same time the band were recording their 2nd album CLOSER...... The PREASURE was on!!!!! Due to the band heavy schedule and Curtis lack of sleep, Curtis's epilepsy and seizures became almost uncontrollable ,causing him major stress and embarrassment On April 7th 1980 due to hill deteriorating health Curtis attempted and failed suicide To which on the 18th may 1980 he succeed in his suicide attempt by hanging himself the pressured had got enough The tip of he ice berg being his wife from 1975 filed divorce to which she refused to unfile
12. Curtis suicide Curtis depression to bad health and hectic ,seemingly dishevelled life finally got to much ending in his unfortunate suicide
14. Aftermath of Curtis suicide!!!! Due to a pact made at the formation of the band being that had any member decided to leave they would rename the band So due to Curtis death the band was renamed new order New order went on to make much better commercial success than joy division

Joy division The band when in development stage took a long time to establish their style and sound Ian Curtis was the groups sole lyricalist, his writing style was to write franticly when the mood took him, he would then listen to the band music composed by Sumner and the lyrics most appropriate The band refused to press or print word on lyrics sheets.....stating the lyrics were open to interpretation The band later admitted that they regret not seeing the warning sign for Curtis depression in his lyrics
19. Joy division style Joy division as a group had a very kind of indie style in which they were almost certainly found to be in a shirt and smart trouser to which they rocked with their own individuality such as the shirt being tucked out the wore smart Macs for jackets ,with a very precise styled messy hair cut... I think style could be best described as messy church boy with an almost mysterious feel
