Day 5 Lesson Plan/ASSURE
Day 5 – Motion and Speed
Students will participate in one hands on activity during this lesson. In groups of three,
students will hold a string with a weight tied to the end, pointed straight down. Then,
students will slowly make a circular motion, and notice how speed affects where the
weight goes.
A- Analyze the Learner
I will be teaching this unit plan to a group of 22 first graders. There are 11 boys and 11
girls. There are 21 white students and 1 African American. Most of my students come
from middle upper class families, however there are several students that come from
families of a lower socioeconomic status.
S- State Objectives
My students will demonstrate knowledge of motion and speed after watching a video on
Youtube, participating in a hands-on activity, and discussing/recording their answers by
the end of the day with 85% accuracy.
S- Selection of Media, Method, and Material
For this lesson, I will be using a Youtube video of a circus cage biker to develop student
understand.
U- Utilize Media and Materials
I will have the video ready in advance, before we begin the lesson. I will also have the
strings with the weights tied to them, ready to use.
R- Require Learner Participation
To begin the lesson in class, students will be shown the Youtube video. Then, students
will complete the activity in groups of three. They will answer questions as a group, such
as what happens when you increase speed, and why do you think this happens. We will
discuss students’ answers as a class, with each group providing their results. Then, we
will continue our lesson, and I will explain how speed affects motion. Once again, we
will record in our journals.
E- Evaluate and Revise
The following rating will be used to evaluate students’ knowledge of holiday traditions.
1. Students participated in class discussion and recorded in their journals.
2. Students worked well with their partners.
