The document summarizes concerns about the economic policies of the New Democratic Party (NDP) and their support for the Leap Manifesto. It argues that the NDP's policies of increasing taxes, pursuing protectionism, and moving to a carbon-free economy would negatively impact the Canadian economy. It notes that past NDP governments have left large deficits and that the economic conditions of the 1950s and 1960s that the NDP supports are no longer relevant.

3. Who are New Democratic Party?
In 1961 the New Democratic Party or NDP was founded and
Tommy Douglas, the dynamic premier of Saskatchewan was
chosen as it's first leader. Douglas who pioneered Medicare
in Saskatchewan was an eloquent and effect speaker and
managed to bring the CCF back from near extinction. By the
1962 election the NDP more then doubled their 1958 seats
and by 1972 had grown to 31 seats and a share of the power
during the Liberal minority government.
4. NDP Government / Canada

What Canada needs now is a federal government led by Tom Mulcair that will put a priority on
workers: creating more and better quality jobs, with decent wages and benefits; developing a
more diversified, innovative and sustainable economy in collaboration with all sectors of the
economy; strengthening our public services and social protections, and putting in place a fairer
tax system.
This isn’t just theory or wishful thinking. NDP governments across Canada have done it
before. Over the past 35 years NDP governments have not only had a better fiscal record, but
they’ve also had a better economic record with stronger wage growth and lower unemployment
rates than either Liberal or Conservative governments at provincial and federal levels.

5. Canada economy
Canadian Manufacturing Sales Canada GDP
1. It takes many policies to drive FDI including Corporate Taxation, regulations, Trade and Investment
Agreements. NDP believes in protectionism policies. Business have to compete for ROI!
2. For each $1B of exports there are 5,500 jobs. NDP does not get the need to develop natural resources
as part of supporting government tax revenue
6. Government spending/sustainable
• Source - http://business.financialpost.com/news/economy/canadas-government-spending-is-now-on-unsustainable-path-warns-pbo
• NDP believes in increasing taxes to support a bigger safety net
• Canada has to compete for capital as such more taxes drives out capital
• NDP always look at throwing money at the symptoms which never fixed the
root causes when it comes to delivery efficient and effective government
dollars to social program
7. Globalisation
• Emerging markets are leading growth
• Canada needs to compete for capital against emerging market
• Canada needs to have competitive environment including taxes, regulations and trade
and investment deals
• NDP thinks we are living in the 1960s and we are not. China is world power which was
not the case in the 1960s
• 1950s and 1960s also seen large investment infrastructure due to post-war build up
• NDP have been unsuccessful in office since 1990. NDP government have left large
deficits and debt after their time in office.
• Saskatchewan model of the 1950s and 1960s is irrelevant in today’s world
• Carbon taxation has negative impact on the economy. NDP supports leap manifesto
which means a carbon free economy. Vote for NDP means bad news for the economy!
8. Leap Manifesto
Source - http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/leap-manifesto-what-is-it-and-what-could-it-mean-for-the-ndpsfuture/article29583796/
As the New Democratic Party debate how to move forward in a post-
Mulcair future, one proposal is calling for a dramatic shift to the left
and a harder opposition to the use of fossil fuels. Here’s what the Leap
Manifesto proposes, who’s behind it and what might happen next
9. Carbon Free Economy
• You cannot go to carbon-free economy overnight
• Clean technology product require raw materials (rare metals, lithium, vanadium)
• Power Grid cannot handle plug-in stations.
• 1/3 of exports are natural resources. It would take over 30 years to replace oil
with clean technology
• There are no substitute products for many carbon-based products

10. Summary
• NDP policies would destroy the finances of a province and/or Federal
Government
• NDP support comes from unions which in many cases are public sector unions.
Public sector compensation is 12%+ higher than the private sector. NDP never
mention that issue with compensation. NDP has said private sector should pay
more, but the reality is government does not operate in competitive environment
like business.
• NDP believe in government control which has led to many failures around the
world like Venezuela and Cuba.
