4. Introduction
There are many issues facing the provinces including fiscal and economic
challenges. The provinces will want the next government to be partner with them.
6. Trade and Internal Barriers
Trade barriers cost the Canadian economy billions each year - https://torontosun.com/opinion/editorials/editorial-
internal-trade-wars-depress-our-economy
If trade barriers were eliminated there would be a boost to GDP - It’s been estimated that knocking down barriers to
interprovincial trade could boost Canada’s economy by up to $130 billion annually, increasing our gross domestic
product by up to 4%.
Trudeau does not stand up for all Canadians!
Facts about Provincial trade and Affairs
Trudeau said he would establish better relations including not forcing a carbon tax on to the provinces –
https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/justin-trudeau-says-carbon-pricing-should-be-left-to-provinces-1.2927889 The problem
that statement was made when AB and ON were under the NDP and Liberal rule

LeBlanc has been confrontational with the provinces - https://ipolitics.ca/2018/10/18/federal-minister-slams-doug-ford-on-

Canada needs to be competitive in terms of its economic and tax policies as part of attracting business investment -

Harper chose to do one on one meetings as he felt each province had their own issues.
7. Trade and Zones
Real leaders stand up for their people. It is great to see both Doug Ford and Jason Kenney standing up for
their people. The next PM needs to stand up for all Canadians
“Too bad he isn’t doing enough to encourage trade at home. Which is why it is news that
representatives from Alberta’s new government are in Toronto to lay the groundwork for free trade
talks between the provinces. The talks, if successful, could see Ontario join the New West Partnership, a
quasi-free trade deal that encompasses British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Isn’t it
crazy to think about needing to have free trade talks inside Canada? I mean, not only are we one
country but a major reason our founders sought to bring about Confederation was for free trade and a
brighter future between the colonies.”

8. Transfers to the Provinces
@justintrudeau promised higher transfers to provinces through CST and HST. Trudeau honor the same agreement as
Harper - https://canadians.org/blog/trudeau-government-implements-harper-governments-funding-formula-health-
care or https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/canada-election-2015-learned-this-week-aug22-1.3200542 “The Liberal leader
also promised to review the terms of equalization, taking into consideration the country's tax framework.” – The review
happen as such no changes were made to the formula.
@andrewscheer has said he will review the transfers - https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/scheer-conservative-health-
transfers-1.5233766
Who do you trust the most when it comes to reforming the transfers?

9. Infrastructure
@justintrudeau said there would emphasis on
infrastructure through different funding like the
infrastructure bank. The problem is the
infrastructure bank has done little in terms of
getting projects off the ground.
@andrewscheer was part of a govt that set up
dedicated funding for infrastructure

Who is better when dealing with the provinces?
@justintrudeau that promise a true partnership with provinces then force the carbon tax -
