2. INTRODUCTION
 As an in-school suspension teacher, Patrick Van Amburgh
helped students with minor legal offenses develop academic
skills and practice appropriate behavior. Patrick Van Amburgh
builds on the experience he gained as an undergraduate and
master’s student at Springfield College in Massachusetts.
Founded in 1885 and ranked by U.S. News & World Report as a
top regional university, Springfield serves some 5,000 students,
including 2,500 full-timers. As of January 2019, Springfield is
offering online courses to learners around the world.
Using the Brightspace platform, Springfield launched its
distance learning for two degrees: the BS in human services and
the MBA in nonprofit management.

3. SPRINGFIELD COLLEGE IN
MASSACHUSETTS
 Classes in both programs are capped at 24 students to
facilitate a flexible and highly social environment.
Undergraduate offerings cover substance abuse and
addiction, community development, early childhood
education, and criminal justice. The MBA program
teaches participants about operating and funding
charitable organizations across a variety of social
concerns.
These new networked curricula have been fully
accredited by the New England Commission of Higher
Education.
