any of the critical asset during production or
manufacturing incurs huge productivity
losses.
Asset owners and planner are always
struggle around planning the maintenance
operation and at the same time making sure
that required skill human resources, spare
parts and material are available. There are
quite few industry grade software solutions
available right now to address this critical
business function in Enterprise asset
management (EAM) space.
SAP itself advocates two important tools for
Resource Scheduling; Multi Resource
Scheduling know as SAP MRS and Click
software. Being useful because of in-built
integration to have visibility about tools,
spare parts availability in addition to human
resources, MRS is always best suited tools
for Resource planning in Heavy industry.
Significance:
Every asset in mills and production plants are
owned by responsible O&M staff. These

Maintenance resources are usually grouped
based on their skills and expertise. Working
hierarchy within maintenance organization
most of the time differs than the HCM
organization hierarchy. This adds more
problem when it comes to define
responsibility of managing resources for
planning purpose.
Although the availability human resources
play pivotal role in completing the
maintenance operation, without tools,
equipment and spare parts it’s impossible to
complete maintenance task. If availability
tools, equipment and spare parts are
purposefully ignoring, it adds up for either
additional inventory (cost) or loss of
productivity due non-availability of these
resources.
Not every resource is maintained as

engage contract resources to work on

taken about utilization of inhouse vs external
resources when planner can see availability

resources are outside resource planning tool
and managed at very high level without
considering their work schedule and
advance planning.

tool for heavy industry due to number of

already using SAP for HCM, Maintenance
operation, Material management and other

1. Capacity Planning of Resources based on
shift and individual work schedule. MRS
defines available capacity of resources or
team based on actual work schedule of
resources rather than referencing group
level work schedule. This helps Asset

plan, Planner can change resource work
schedule without impacting HCM work
schedule.

staff. Capacity can be checked and
assigned at individual resource level.
This brings lot of values by providing way
to compare internal capacity vs outside
capacity and utilization.

them and timeline to complete the
assigned work. It can show the changes
in working time without HCM
department’s involvement to change the
shift of resources. Resource can confirm
the work performed from their hand-
held device.
