4. INTRODUCTION
Tiger barb is a fresh water ornamental fish.
Sumatra barb is known as tiger barb because
of tiger like color patterns on body.
Native fish are silver to brownish yellow with
four vertical black strips & red fin.
The green barb is the same size and has the
same nature as the normal barb but has a
green body.
The green barb is called moss green tiger
barb.

6. DISTRIBUTION & HABITAT
TIGER BARB is species of trophical climatic
fish.
The natural geographic extends in
INDONESIA & reported in CAMBODIA.
TIGER BARB have been found in clear or
turbid shallow water.
7. BREEDING
The tiger barb usually attain sexual maturity
at a body length of 2 -3 cm total length( 6-7
weeks of age).
The female are larger than male.
The females have rounded belly and manly
black dorsal fin.
8. The males have a brighter than females, red nose
with and red lines above on their dorsal fin.
The egg layers tend to spawn several 100 eggs in
early morning in clumps of the plant.
Eggs Average 300 eggs can be expected
from each brooders.
9. The number of eggs released will
increase with the maturity and size of
fish.
Eggs are adhesive in nature.
Tiger barb have been documented to
spawn as many as 500 eggs per female.
10. In aquarium
The tiger barb, an active shoaling fish ,usually
kept in groups of six or more.
Not recommended for tanks with slower and
more peaceful fishes such as bettas,
gouramis, angel fish and others.
They compatible with many fast –moving
fishes such as danios, platy, and most cat
fish.
11. They dwell at mid level of water.
Tiger barb do best in soft , slightly acidic water.
Will consume processed food such as flakes and
crisps as well as live food .
