 MHRD has already announced ambitious schemes including
 IMPRINT (Impacting Research Innovation and Technology)
 IMPRESS (Impactful Policy Research in Social Science)
 SPARC (Scheme for Promotion of Academic and Research
Collaboration)
 STARS (Scheme for Transformational and Advanced Research
in Fundamental Sciences)
 STRIDE (Scheme for Trans-disciplinary Research for India’s
Developing Economy)
STRIDE will support the following

STRIDE Components
Component-1:Research Capacity Building and Human
Resource Development focused on colleges and
Universities [All disciplines] (Duration – up to 3 Years).
Component-2: Trans-Disciplinary Research and Inclusive
Innovation for National Development [All disciplines]
(Duration – up to 3 Years)
Component-3: High Impact Trans-disciplinary Research
in Humanities and Human Sciences (Duration – up to 5
Years)
Component-1
 Eligibility
 Any university which is in formative and / or consolidation stage and
any college can submit its project proposal for funding to develop and
strengthen Research Capacity Building of teachers and research
scholars of all disciplines.
 The university/college must be qualified under Section 2 (f ) and 12 B of
the UGC Act, 1956.
 The private institutions will not be entitled for funding however they
can apply for recognition as a UGC-STRIDE Center for Research
Capacity Building on a Self-finance mode.
 Quantum of Support
 The support under the scheme will be up to a maximum of Rs. 1 Crore per
institution only to meet the specified objectives. e grant will be utilised as per
the UGC rules/norms.
 Tenure of the Scheme
 The duration of the scheme shall be three years from the date of receipt of
first instalment of approved grant.
 Procedure for Applying for the Scheme
 The eligible universities, institutions and colleges can apply online in the
prescribed format for the Scheme available on the UGC Website. The
institution would identify a Coordinator (academician of repute) at the
institution level
 Selection Process
 All the project proposals would be subjected to peer-review and the project
will be awarded on a competitive merit basis on the recommendations of the
Expert Committee constituted by the UGC for the purpose
COMPONENT-2 (For all disciplines)
 This component of the scheme is to encourage young and mid-career
faculty to engage in high quality research across disciplinary boundaries
and knowledge systems, for sustainable development of selected
local/regional geographies. is scheme mainly focuses on an action-oriented
approach in higher education to improve quality of life, and the ecosystem.
 Eligibility/Target Group
 This component of the scheme is mainly meant for young/ mid-career
faculty.
 UGC will provide support to regular Assistant/Associate Professor in any
institution/university which qualifies under Section 2 (f) and 12 B of the
UGC Act, 1956.
 Nature of Assistance
 Up to Rs. 50 Lakh. However, in exceptional cases where official
collaboration with Government/ Corporate / Voluntary Organization is
developed, the grant amount can be up to Rs 1 Crore for well justified
project.
 Tenure and Implementation
 The tenure of the project/program under the Scheme will be three years.
 Procedure for Applying
 Eligible Assistant/Associate Professors may submit their
applications/project proposal ONLINE in the prescribed Proforma
available on the UGC website.
 Procedure for Approval
 The proposals (Online and downloaded) duly forwarded by the
concerned Universities/Colleges will be assessed with the help of a
subject experts.
COMPONENT-3
 STRIDE component-3 is focused on Humanities and
Human sciences to support high impact projects with help
of multi institutional network of eminent researchers in
various thrust areas.
 is component of the scheme is to conceive, construct,
commission, implement and monitor high impact
innovative projects by identifying best talent to work as
team by creating a network of multiple institutions.
 Eligibility to receive funding
 Any researcher working in the University/Institution/College,
which qualifies under Section 2 (f ) and 12 B of the UGC Act, 1956
with proven track record to undertake trans-disciplinary research
in the fields of Humanities and Human Sciences, can submit
project proposal for funding up to Rs. 5 Crores, with a national
network of co-investigators from a minimum of 2-4 institutions /
organizations.
 The Principal Investigator (PI) should have sufficient expertise and
support systems such as administrative, financial and research to
carry out the trans-disciplinary research in the identified thrust
areas.
 Duration of the Scheme
 The tenure of the scheme will be up to five years. the
effective date of implementation of the approved tenure
will be from the date of receipt of first instalment of the
approved grant.
 Ceiling of Assistance
 The maximum limit of financial assistance will be upto Rs. 5
Crores for a period of five years for multi institutional
network project.
 Procedure for Application
 The PIs/ CIs from eligible institutions may apply in
prescribed format along with detailed project report.
ICSSR-IMPRESS
 Impactful Policy Research in Social Science (IMPRESS) aims to
encourage social science research in policy relevant areas so as to
provide vital inputs in policy-formulation, implementation and
evaluation.
 The IMPRESS is an initiative of the Ministry of Human Resource
Development, Government of India and is being implemented by
the Indian Council of Social Science Research.
 The budget for Minor Projects would be up to Rs. 4.99 lakh.
 For Major Projects, it could be Rs. 5-15 lakh.
 Large inter-disciplinary and inter-institutional studies involving a
number of scholars, could also be from Rs 15-50 lakh or above.

ELIGIBILITY
 All Government funded institutions including Universities (central and
state), private institutions with UGC
 12(b) status and ICSSR Research Institutes are eligible to apply.
 The Project Director should be a regular employee, possessing Ph.D.
degree and have an interest in high
 quality research which may be evidenced by past studies, publications and
academic background. In case the
 project has co- Director(s), they should have proven research interest.
 Individual scholars would be entitled to take up only one project at a time.
However, institutes having good
 research infrastructure and resources may apply for a number of
proposals.
HOW TO APPLY
 Applications will be invited through advertisements on IMPRESS and
ICSSR websites.
 After submitting the online application, a hard copy of the same, along
with all enclosures, must be sent to:
 IMPRESS, Indian Council of Social Science Research, Aruna Asaf Ali
Marg, New Delhi 110067 before the last date of such submission duly
signed and stamped by the affiliating institution.
 The Applicants are required to submit an Abstract & a detailed Research
Proposal in the given format including details of the Project Director and
Co-Director(s) and the budget.
DURATION AND VALUE
 Research Projects shall have six months to two year
duration, depending upon the requirement of the work.
 The budget for Minor Projects would be upto Rs. 4.99
lakh. For Major Projects, it could be Rs. 5-15 lakh.
 Large inter-disciplinary and inter-institutional studies
involving a number of scholars, could also be proposed
with a budget from Rs 15-50 lakh or above. However, the
Steering Committee’s decision regarding budget will be
final.
IMPRINT
 IMPRINT is the first of its kind MHRD supported Pan-IIT + IISc joint
initiative to address the major science and engineering challenges that
India must address and champion to enable, empower and embolden
the nation for inclusive growth and self-reliance. This novel initiative
with twofold mandate is aimed at:
(a) Developing new engineering education policy
(b) Creating a road map to pursue engineering challenges

The Scheme for Promotion of Academic and
Research Collaboration (SPARC) aims at
improving the research ecosystem of India’s
Higher Educational Institutions by facilitating
academic and research collaborations between
Indian Institutions and the best institutions in the
world from 28 selected nations to jointly solve
problems of national and/or international
relevance.
STARS
 Scheme for Transformational and Advanced Research in
Sciences (STARS) for promoting translational, India-centric
research in Sciences, to be implemented, monitored and
managed by Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore.
 The following 6 basic thrust domains have been identified:
 Physics
 Chemistry
 Biological Sciences
 Nano sciences
 Data Sciences & Mathematics and
 Earth Sciences.

  • 2. SPECIAL SCHEMES  MHRD has already announced ambitious schemes including  IMPRINT (Impacting Research Innovation and Technology)  IMPRESS (Impactful Policy Research in Social Science)  SPARC (Scheme for Promotion of Academic and Research Collaboration)  STARS (Scheme for Transformational and Advanced Research in Fundamental Sciences)  STRIDE (Scheme for Trans-disciplinary Research for India’s Developing Economy)
  • 3. STRIDE will support the following innovative research projects: Socially Relevant  Locally Need-based  Nationally Important •Globally Significant
  • 4. STRIDE Components Component-1:Research Capacity Building and Human Resource Development focused on colleges and Universities [All disciplines] (Duration – up to 3 Years). Component-2: Trans-Disciplinary Research and Inclusive Innovation for National Development [All disciplines] (Duration – up to 3 Years) Component-3: High Impact Trans-disciplinary Research in Humanities and Human Sciences (Duration – up to 5 Years)
  • 5. Component-1  Eligibility  Any university which is in formative and / or consolidation stage and any college can submit its project proposal for funding to develop and strengthen Research Capacity Building of teachers and research scholars of all disciplines.  The university/college must be qualified under Section 2 (f ) and 12 B of the UGC Act, 1956.  The private institutions will not be entitled for funding however they can apply for recognition as a UGC-STRIDE Center for Research Capacity Building on a Self-finance mode.
  • 6.  Quantum of Support  The support under the scheme will be up to a maximum of Rs. 1 Crore per institution only to meet the specified objectives. e grant will be utilised as per the UGC rules/norms.  Tenure of the Scheme  The duration of the scheme shall be three years from the date of receipt of first instalment of approved grant.  Procedure for Applying for the Scheme  The eligible universities, institutions and colleges can apply online in the prescribed format for the Scheme available on the UGC Website. The institution would identify a Coordinator (academician of repute) at the institution level  Selection Process  All the project proposals would be subjected to peer-review and the project will be awarded on a competitive merit basis on the recommendations of the Expert Committee constituted by the UGC for the purpose
  • 7. COMPONENT-2 (For all disciplines)  This component of the scheme is to encourage young and mid-career faculty to engage in high quality research across disciplinary boundaries and knowledge systems, for sustainable development of selected local/regional geographies. is scheme mainly focuses on an action-oriented approach in higher education to improve quality of life, and the ecosystem.  Eligibility/Target Group  This component of the scheme is mainly meant for young/ mid-career faculty.  UGC will provide support to regular Assistant/Associate Professor in any institution/university which qualifies under Section 2 (f) and 12 B of the UGC Act, 1956.
  • 8.  Nature of Assistance  Up to Rs. 50 Lakh. However, in exceptional cases where official collaboration with Government/ Corporate / Voluntary Organization is developed, the grant amount can be up to Rs 1 Crore for well justified project.  Tenure and Implementation  The tenure of the project/program under the Scheme will be three years.  Procedure for Applying  Eligible Assistant/Associate Professors may submit their applications/project proposal ONLINE in the prescribed Proforma available on the UGC website.  Procedure for Approval  The proposals (Online and downloaded) duly forwarded by the concerned Universities/Colleges will be assessed with the help of a subject experts.
  • 9. COMPONENT-3  STRIDE component-3 is focused on Humanities and Human sciences to support high impact projects with help of multi institutional network of eminent researchers in various thrust areas.  is component of the scheme is to conceive, construct, commission, implement and monitor high impact innovative projects by identifying best talent to work as team by creating a network of multiple institutions.
  • 10.  Eligibility to receive funding  Any researcher working in the University/Institution/College, which qualifies under Section 2 (f ) and 12 B of the UGC Act, 1956 with proven track record to undertake trans-disciplinary research in the fields of Humanities and Human Sciences, can submit project proposal for funding up to Rs. 5 Crores, with a national network of co-investigators from a minimum of 2-4 institutions / organizations.  The Principal Investigator (PI) should have sufficient expertise and support systems such as administrative, financial and research to carry out the trans-disciplinary research in the identified thrust areas.
  • 11.  Duration of the Scheme  The tenure of the scheme will be up to five years. the effective date of implementation of the approved tenure will be from the date of receipt of first instalment of the approved grant.  Ceiling of Assistance  The maximum limit of financial assistance will be upto Rs. 5 Crores for a period of five years for multi institutional network project.  Procedure for Application  The PIs/ CIs from eligible institutions may apply in prescribed format along with detailed project report.
  • 12. ICSSR-IMPRESS  Impactful Policy Research in Social Science (IMPRESS) aims to encourage social science research in policy relevant areas so as to provide vital inputs in policy-formulation, implementation and evaluation.  The IMPRESS is an initiative of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India and is being implemented by the Indian Council of Social Science Research.  The budget for Minor Projects would be up to Rs. 4.99 lakh.  For Major Projects, it could be Rs. 5-15 lakh.  Large inter-disciplinary and inter-institutional studies involving a number of scholars, could also be from Rs 15-50 lakh or above.

  • 14. ELIGIBILITY  All Government funded institutions including Universities (central and state), private institutions with UGC  12(b) status and ICSSR Research Institutes are eligible to apply.  The Project Director should be a regular employee, possessing Ph.D. degree and have an interest in high  quality research which may be evidenced by past studies, publications and academic background. In case the  project has co- Director(s), they should have proven research interest.  Individual scholars would be entitled to take up only one project at a time. However, institutes having good  research infrastructure and resources may apply for a number of proposals.
  • 15. HOW TO APPLY  Applications will be invited through advertisements on IMPRESS and ICSSR websites.  After submitting the online application, a hard copy of the same, along with all enclosures, must be sent to:  IMPRESS, Indian Council of Social Science Research, Aruna Asaf Ali Marg, New Delhi 110067 before the last date of such submission duly signed and stamped by the affiliating institution.  The Applicants are required to submit an Abstract & a detailed Research Proposal in the given format including details of the Project Director and Co-Director(s) and the budget.
  • 16. DURATION AND VALUE  Research Projects shall have six months to two year duration, depending upon the requirement of the work.  The budget for Minor Projects would be upto Rs. 4.99 lakh. For Major Projects, it could be Rs. 5-15 lakh.  Large inter-disciplinary and inter-institutional studies involving a number of scholars, could also be proposed with a budget from Rs 15-50 lakh or above. However, the Steering Committee’s decision regarding budget will be final.

IMPRINT  IMPRINT is the first of its kind MHRD supported Pan-IIT + IISc joint initiative to address the major science and engineering challenges that India must address and champion to enable, empower and embolden the nation for inclusive growth and self-reliance. This novel initiative with twofold mandate is aimed at: (a) Developing new engineering education policy (b) Creating a road map to pursue engineering challenges

SPARC The Scheme for Promotion of Academic and Research Collaboration (SPARC) aims at improving the research ecosystem of India’s Higher Educational Institutions by facilitating academic and research collaborations between Indian Institutions and the best institutions in the world from 28 selected nations to jointly solve problems of national and/or international relevance.
  • 20. STARS  Scheme for Transformational and Advanced Research in Sciences (STARS) for promoting translational, India-centric research in Sciences, to be implemented, monitored and managed by Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore.  The following 6 basic thrust domains have been identified:  Physics  Chemistry  Biological Sciences  Nano sciences  Data Sciences & Mathematics and  Earth Sciences.
