payments and new revenue stream.
One of the fastest growing cities in Texas, positioned on a growth curve that extends
well into the 21st century has a centralized AP department for the City’s 25
departments. All use the same SunGard accounting system, but for control, one central
payment technology from OnPay Solutions has been employed for many years. The
centralized department issued approximately 150 – 200 checks each week.
“We have enjoyed high security and streamlined processes for issuing checks for the
past years,” said the City Finance Manager, “and our City’s older accounting system is
not capable of issuing another type of payment, but despite the system limitations, we
as a City wanted to explore additional ways to reduce our costs. We elected the solution
from OnPay Solutions that will actually help us turn our AP department into a profit
center."
SecurePayPlus from OnPay Solutions takes the check file out of the accounting system,
converts it and sends it via secure FTP directly to Comdata for conversion to Virtual
MasterCard® all from within the same software we use to issue our checks.
This City processes approximately $8 million in payments each month and is in the
process of converting vendors to the Virtual MasterCard® program. It is expected to
earn a cash rebate of more than $125,000. In addition, once the Virtual Card program is
up and running, they can convert other vendors who did not accept the card payment to
ACH customers and further reduce their check printing costs.
