What does “Islam” mean?
The word الإسلام [Islam] is an infinitive word derived from س ل م [silm] root in if‘al pattern and used as noun and infinitive. The word silm means “release/keeping away; and to be distant from fear, doubt, trouble, lack of peace, unhappiness, fight, war, pain, suffering, material and spiritual inconveniences, weakness and decaying, and all the negativities.” This word is also the root of salim, selam, teslim, Islam etc. The word’s “Islam” form means “strengthening” [removal from problems, worries, fear, unhappiness, fights, wars, and similar negative things]. Hence, the religion Islam means the “the religion that strengthens humans [entire range of principles that protects and secures people by putting a distance between them and problems, worries, war, weakness, spiritual illness, unhappiness, and similar things].”

AT-TAKWIR (THE SHROUDING UP)
MECCAN PERIOD
Division: 18
1When the sun is folded up and shrouded, 2when the stars are dimmed, 3when
the mountains are moved, 4when interests and the best resources32 become useless,
5when living things loose their natural properties,33 6when seas boil over, 7when
souls are sorted out according to their beliefs and ambitions,34 8,9when those who
whine in agony35 are asked “For what sin are they killed/their lives ruined?”, 10when
scrolls of deeds are laid open and made public, 11when the sky is stripped away,
12when Jahannah [Hell] fire is set ablaze, 13,14and when Jannah [Heaven/Paradise] is
brought closer, then every soul will know what is set forth.

15,21I adduce those who hide to avoid heeding, state of those who flee,
vanishing of covering up/ignorance, arrival of enlightenment/maturity36 that this
indeed is the word of a dearer Messenger who is held in honor before the Owner of
the Heavens/the greatest throne37 and obeyed, relied upon there.38 22This companion
of yours is not a madman/possessed. 23He surely saw Him on the clear horizon. 24He
does not withhold knowledge about the unseen, the unheard, the unfelt, and about
the revelations sent to Him. 25This is not the word He conjured up.39
26So, where are you going? 27,28This is nothing but an admonition to all
universes and for those who want to lead the righteous path. 29You may not think,
accept admonition unless Allah, Rabb [the Lord, the Cherisher, the Nurturer, the
Sustainer] of all universes wishes you to do so.
(7/81, At-Takwir/15-29)
32 The literal meaning of the phrase originally mentioned in the Ayah is “when ten
month pregnant she-camels are not cared about”. The “ten month pregnant she-camel” represents the
best resources of income for the people of the time such as farms, factories, mines, inns, baths, etc.
33 The literal meaning of the phrase originally mentioned in the Ayah is “when wild
beasts are gathered”. This means that even wild beasts will gather like flocks of sheep or ewes by the
severity of the Day of Judgment, therefore losing their own selves.
34 The literal meaning of the phrase originally mentioned in the Ayah is “when souls are
paired”. According to the Surah Al-Wai’ah/7 (division 127), the pairing mentioned here is the
pairing, gathering or summoning of people as “left-wing, right-wing and forerunners”.

35 The phrase iza’l-maw’udati suilat is usually translated as “when the girl who was
buried alive is asked”. Which somewhat narrows down the meaning of the Ayah. The actual meaning
of the phrase should be “girls, boys and adults who are deprived of their rights through pressure and
torment; who are banned from education, working and other opportunities thus obliged to live a
miserable and distressful life, whining in pain all their lives”.
36 The “actual” meaning of the phrases originally mentioned in the Ayah is “I hereby
adduce for those who hide, flee to their homes, by the night as it leads, by the dawn as it breathes
that”. We used the metaphorical meaning.
37 ‘Arsh means “the greatest, the highest position/throne”. It is mentioned in the Qur’an
for 26 times. While four of them are mentioned for the votaries, namely the throne of the Queen of
Sheba in the Surah An-Naml and the throne of Yusuf (Joseph) in the Surah Yusuf (Joseph), other 21
mentions are used metaphorically for the Throne of Allah.
Attribution of the metaphorical meaning to Allah is the declaration of Himas the Owner of the
Highest Rank, and the fact that there is no other governor higher than Him.
38 The word of the Messengeris “the Message ofthe Authority who sent the Messenger,
which is conveyed by the Messenger without adding, extracting or modifying”.
39 The original phrase in the Ayah is “this is not the word of Satan, the Outcast”. The
literal meaning of the word Sheitan is “the one who is away fromthe truth”. As a conception, it is the
common name used for “all those people, institutions and authority that act against logic and the
truth”.
The Qur’an details who or what Satan may be, His properties and distinguishing features.
According to the Qur’an, Satan is the persons or authorities that A) advice/command haram/unjust
income, B) induce us to commit wrong deeds, impudence and to say things against Allah that we do
not know, C) threaten us with poverty, D) make us delusional, E) command us to change the
creations of Allah, F) whisper us extravagant words to deceive, G) provoke us with apprehensions,
confuse us, H) spoil us for what we did, I) seduce us, J) sow discord between humans with
alcohol/drugs and gambling, K) try to forbid us from remembering and uttering Allah’s name and
being servants of Him.
The phrases “Satan the Outcast”, “Satan the Stubborn” are used in the Qur’an for “Iblis”.
“Iblis” means the “comprehension of human”. The Qur’an describes Iblis as a power, an entity or an
ability that is made of energy and that cannot be seen, confuses people; produces notions, approaches
people from around them; acts by influencing, cannot act in absence of influence, only interacts with
human in all living creatures, denies to prostrate the man. the Qur’an personifies this ability. You can
find detailed information thereof in “Tabyeen-al-Qur’an [Manifestation of the Qur’an]”.
