2. Learning Intention:
To recognise the importance of collaboration and
begin to form working bonds with peers.
To be able to respond to posts as a form of
discussion.
3. Success Criteria:
I can manoeuvre through the VLE to post a reply
to responses.
I can contribute to a discussion post creating a
thread.
4. Collaboration is the foundation of all learning. It is the process where you swap stories, share ideas
and learn about the world around you from the experiences of others. The process of collaboration
allows you to build on experiences you currently have, creating a wider knowledge base and deeper
understanding of the many issues and concepts you face on a daily basis.
“Most great learning happens in groups. Collaboration is the stuff of growth.”
- Sir Ken Robinson Ph.D.
5. Generally, humans are social creatures. We spend hours socialising with friends and family. We
tend to be proficient in conversations; face to face, online, mobile and not to mention SMS,
with its own texting language. Yet collaboration is a skill on its own. It doesn’t just happen. It
relies on a shared purpose and the coming together of all involved to reach a desired goal.
“Collaboration begins with mutual understanding and respect.”
- Astronaut Ron Garan
6. Your Task
As part of developing a TEAM of online learners, your task is to respond to the introduction
posts of 3 members within the A.C.E.D program. You are to respond to 2 members within
your own neighbourhood, and 1 member from another neighbourhood. Where possible, try
to respond to peers that you do not associate with all the time.
Your reply post needs to be a minimum of 5 quality sentences that opens up the line of
communication. You may ask questions as part of a response aiming for more information or
clarification. You may respond showing a mutual interest and share some of your own
experiences.
Please be mindful of netiquette in your responses.
See next slide for specific instructions.
7. 1. Watch the “How to respond to a post" video
2. Check your group from the Group Listing
3. Click on the link here for Group A, OR Group B.
4. Place you name beside three people in the table that you will respond to (2 in your neighbourhood
and 1 in another neighbourhood). This will hopefully ensure that each person will receive 3
responses.
5. Return to the VLE. Select the tab from session 1. Select your group (A or B) and scroll through
the posts to find your chosen students.
6. Post your reply.
7. As homework – check your own introduction posts. Can you respond to the responders?
