2. Covid-19, originating in Wuhan, China, was confirmed by the World Health
Organization (WHO) in 2020 and spread worldwide. Malaysian Government enforced
a Movement Control Order in March 2020, closing universities and colleges. Online
learning became popular, requiring familiarization with online apps like Zoom, Google
Meets, and Microsoft Teams. As of April 2022, the endemic phase is transitioning, and
the advantages and disadvantages of online and physical learning are discussed.
Online learning offers a more equitable and accessible alternative to physical
education by eliminating major barriers and allowing access to any learning class,
regardless of the desired credential. This makes education more accessible and
equitable, unlike physical learning where students must attend classes far or near. For
instance, I experiences three consecutive cases of coronavirus, which led to
hospitalization, quarantine at home and even being almost immune to the virus. This
highlights the challenges of online learning, regardless of one’s health status. Despite
this, more students have been utilizing online education since the pandemic,
highlighting the adapting to new learning methods, ensuring good grades and focus
on the subject.
The pandemic has led to the rise of online classes, enabling students to learn
independently with tutors and peers. However, not all students can focus on learning
or improvement due to limited resources. Online classes also offer lower costs for
students and tutors, but some students struggle due to financial constraints or family
struggles with internet and tuition fees. This has led to a need for more flexible and
accessible learning options for students. This has led to my experience, as when it
comes to teamwork or group discussions due to the limited resources available
through online applications.
Therefore, online learning has limited feedback due to the amount received
from lecturers, making it difficult to improve skills or knowledge. Physical learning
offers unlimited interactions with lecturers and students, allowing immediate
responses to questions. Based on my experience, understanding business
mathematics calculations in physical classes can be easier due to direct interaction
with lecturers, while online learning can be challenging due to first-come, first-served
methods.
3. As a result, online and physical learning can lead to similar academic
performance levels, but online learning is ideal for those who manage studies with
work and other life activities. Online classes provide education at home, but require
minimal conversation between students and lecturers. Physical learning offers
individual attention and better understanding. The future of education may see
physical classes, as Aristotle's quote suggests, as the roots of education are bitter but
the fruit is sweet.
