Persuasive Essay On Animal Abuse
Albert Einstein once stated, "Our task must be to free ourselves by widening our circle of
compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature and its beauty." Einstein is
undoubtedly one of the most respected scientists recorded in history, and has contributed to many
factors in our world. Therefore, if we accept his concepts in other fields then why not on the topic of
animal cruelty? Cruelty refers to the deprivation of basic necessities needed for survival. While this
issue has been the heading of many news articles the seriousness of animal cruelty has yet to occur to
those reading. In two thousand and seventeen alone, thousands of animal abuse cases have been
reported. Yet multiple politicians and law enforcement officials have still chosen to push the
wellbeing of these creatures to the side. I plan to push government officials to create stricter laws,
allow animal abusers to complete their community service at animal shelters, and educate the
community about the seriousness of animal cruelty. When acrime is committed the perpetrator, if
caught, will be held accountable for their actions by facing the punishment that has been established
in the court of law. The purpose of these punishments is not only to discipline one for committing an
illegal act, but to discourage those from wanting to commit the crime due to not wanting to face the
consequences for their actions. These repercussions become more rigorous as the severity of the
crime increases. For example, one who commits a murder will serve a fifteen year prison sentence
while someone who litters will pay a five hundred dollar fine. Now that a basic understanding of the
law system has been established this allows for one to be able to form an opinion on the lack of
severity of punishments for animal cruelty. In the novel, Animal Cruelty Law in the United States, A
Comparative Analysis, respected author and activist Opal Dockery states that the laws against
animal abuse are much too lenient and that the history of punishments is to blame. Dockery supports
his claim by references English philosopher Jeremy Bentham's novel, The Principles of Morals and
Legislation, which is vital to Dockery's argument due to its conflicting

The act of animal abuse across the US is increasing dramatically without great punishment. Animal
abuse is defined as "acts of violence or neglect perpetrated against animals" (Petfinder). The act of
animal abuse is currently punished with a "Three Strikes Law" which gives a felony charge and
twenty–five year to a full life sentence if convicted of animal abuse three times. This law should
be extended to first time abusers. The penalty should not only be extended for those accused of
animal cruelty, but the government should work harder to encourage people to foster animals to
keep them off of the streets and out of the shelters. People should increase their actions to protect
the safety of domesticated animals. Several animals are waiting in animal shelters to be adopted,
but "for every puppy or kitten who is produced by any breeder, an animal awaiting adoption at an
animal shelter loses his or her chance at finding a home–and will be euthanized" ("Breeders"). This
creates the problem of overcrowding in the shelters and forces the shelter to euthanize animals
earlier than they would have to if the shelter had plenty of space to keep the...show more content...
Even "no kill shelters" get overcrowded and have to find a way to decrease the population. Fostering
pets not only benefits the animals being fostered, but can also benefit you. Fostering pets gives you
the chance to love and care for a pet without the long–term commitment, fostering pets can also teach
children the importance of being responsible and educate about animals. Foster pets also bring
companionship. Fostering pets not only keeps the population down in shelters, but also on the
streets. This would reduce the risks of injuring an animal with a vehicle or causing damage to

Have you ever wondered what Animal Abuse or Animal Cruelty is? Both of these are when
someone is not giving their animal anything to eat or drink and they hurt the animal in every
possible way. Animal Abuse is a very serious problem and should be stop. If you want to help
than here are something you should do, Don't touch the person or animal when you see this
happening because they both can put you in harm's way, You should go get an adult like
someone you trust and go find help together, If you ever witness animal abuse get someone to call
911. There are many things that can happen from someone abusing animals. Some might become
serial killer or pedophile that might be right next door. Many people think that if a child does
animal abuse than they will act in a physical manner of violence to others. This one sociologist
Suzanne Goodney Lea agrees that "if a child is involved in animal abuse they are more likely to
commit physical crimes when they become adults than a child who did not participate in doing
animal abuse when they were young." This is talking about if the child abused animals when they
were young then they will abuse their girlfriends or wife when they get older. A woman named
Janie who is a pharmacist did some studies "that have shown rapist and pedophiles engaged in
animal abuse when they are young." There are many facts that prove to us that when some people
partake in sexual violence you would see that they have also been involved in animal

Imagine being abused everyday of your life with no say whatsoever in what happens to you and it
seems as if no one can hear you scream. This is what many animals go through every day as the
numbers of animal cruelty cases rise every day and it seems like everyone is just turning their
heads to the problem. The only way to fix this problem is to take action and give animals the
voice they have needed. Animals have been taken advantage of since the dawn of man when man
developed tools to kill the animals that led to the extinction of some species. Animals for centuries
have been victims of a horrible case of cruelty with the criminals being humans. Millions of animals
are used in experiments each year to test for possible side effects that could happen in humans while
using the product. This causes some issues because humans and animals are not exactly the same so
they can react differently to some products which leads to the pointless deaths of thousands of
animals each year. Animal tests do not reliably predict results in human beings 94 percent of drugs
that pass animal tests fail in human clinical trials. Animals for medical experimentation can be
burned, shocked, poisoned, isolated, starved, addicted to drugs, and brain–damaged. The government
did release a set of laws to protect animals from testing, but around 95 percent of animals used for
testing are not covered including mice, fish and birds. Animals are also often subjected to many
cases of domestic abuse within

Being able to aid abused, injured, or ill animals, see the background of different animals, and
witness shy, timid animals warm up to humans is one the the many amazing experiences that one
gets to witness volunteering at an animal shelter. During the time I spend volunteering at the
Youngwood Animals Friends Shelter I get the privilege to aid abused, injured, or ill animals. My
first abused animal that I had helped was a black collie lab mix ame Tessa. Tessa was adog who
despised humans and dogs alike. She would growl, snap, bark aggressively and do all of the signs
of basic signs of defense or threats.I didn't walk her because she was on the category of 'red'. Red
meant that a volunteer needed special training to walk the red dogs. I am not trained to walk said
red dogs but i was able to give her treats and clean her kennel. ANother dog, who's name was Cody,
he was a mix of shelties and collies. Cody was surrendered by his owners due to the fact he was
roaming the neighborhood underweight and has a old leg injury. The vet determined that the leg
had to be amputated due to the fact that it was no use to Cody any more and was just getting in
his way of a better quality of life. The day after Cody's surgery Cody walked up the two flights of
steps to get into the cat wing. He was a new dog, with his injured leg amputated he was acting like
the puppy he should be acting. Sadly, Cody passed was recently due to an unknown reason. He
died in his sleep on his bed in his new home

II. Campaign Theme or Focus
Statement and description of the issue to be addressed A major problem in today's society is that
animals are being abused globally. It doesn't matter if the animal is being starved, dehydrated,
neglected, beaten, or even straight out slaughtered: it's all some form of animal abuse. Some
animals, specifically dogs, are inbred and sold illegally. It's these abusive tendencies that this project
is focused on to build awareness toward these issues.
All types of animals are victims of abuse including dogs, cats, horses, chickens, cows, deer, goats,
rabbits, and many more. The sad fact is that no animal is safe from abuse because there are such
people that truly believe that any animal they come across can be used and treated as nothing more
than a defective toy for their own disgusting pleasure and enjoyment....show more content...
Accessed 11 Sept. 2017.
Rationale for selecting the issue This project was specifically chosen because animals are living
creatures that don't deserve such harsh treatments. Animals have emotions just like any other
human. If you were to see a child being abused, would you want to do something about it? And if
you care about a child, what makes an animal any different? Animals also aren't just considered as
pets or mere objects to most of society. Any animal with a home is usually considered a part of that
family. It's time to bring awareness to animal abuse so that animals without a loving home can
hopefully get one.

Persuasive Speech On Animal Abuse
A.According to the animal cruelty page on the ASPCA website in 2017, one animal is abused with
every passing minute. This means that by the time I finish this speech, as many as seven animals
will be the victim of undeserved cruelty. Based on these statistics, about 1,440 animals will suffer
today.
B.The RSPCA, also known as the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, states on
their animal cruelty webpage in 2017 that animal abuse is the mistreatment of animals through the
physical infliction of pain, neglect, harm, or any means that are detrimental to the health, safety, or
mental state of an animal. Such means include starvation, beating, or even failing to care for an
animal properly. Not only is it terrible to witness, but it leaves lasting effects on the humans and
animals involved.
C.Animals are all around us – they are valued as pets and an important part of human society.
Because of their involvement in our lives, it is important to protect them and their rights as living
beings.
D.In order to stop animal cruelty and the problems associated with it, we as a society need stronger
animal rights laws.
E.Thus, to understand how to stop the mistreatment of animals, we must first examine the depth of
the problem itself and the solutions our society can use to achieve this goal.

Persuasive Essay On Animal Cruelty
Animal Cruelty is a problem that many ignore. People are oblivious to these animals and the
negligence their owners show. Animal cruelty is an underlying problem in today's society, and
the only way to counteract these problems, is for this generation to do something about it. Many
people do not report cases of animal cruelty. Reports of animal cruelty are less common than
crimes against people. This is because the cases do not go through state agencies. The animals
that come to mind when someone mentions animal cruelty is often Dogs and cats. These animals
do have a higher percent rate, with dogs at 70.1%, cats at 20.9% and all other animals at 24.1%.
The percent's come from cases that people report. If people were to fill all cases of animal cruelty,
the rates would be much more different. A common form of negligence is people taking their
animal to a place far from home to just leave them there. Animal control pick up these animals
everyday and send them to shelter. For the most part the animals have a healthy portion of food and
they have shelter from the environment. Most shelters are kill shelters. No–Kill shelters become less
common to their counterpart. Animals not adopted within a certain period of time undergo
euthanasia. This keeps room for more animals. No–kill shelters protect the animals and help
rehabilitate them. The other 24.1% is the factory animals. The purpose of a factory animal's life
is a food source. So the owners mistreat their animals because the animals purpose is to be a food
source. It is almost as if they do not matter. They deserve animal rights just as much as the other
animals do. All animals are affected by animal cruelty, even if the animal does not experience the
cruelty on a personal level. Although the ones that experience the cruelty have greater issues after
the abuse. Other animals like pit bulls getting a bad name by their owners being negligent. Pit bulls
can be aggressive; they do have an aggressive nature about them. This is only when they are
provoked, but these dogs are not dangerous. If the dog is taught right than the aggression is
non–existent. If the owner is negligent to the animal and abuses the dog, it often brings out the more
mean side of the dog. The

Persuasive Essay On Peta Animal Abuse
On average, 900 to 2000 more animal abuse calls are made yearly than the previous year.
Government documents show that People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has killed
nearly 20,000 animals since 1998. In the United States, 110 million pigs are killed yearly on pig
farms. In this day and age many people seem to get facts and opinions confused, but the previous
three statements are cold, terrible facts about the animals in the United States.
PETA is an organization that advertises as being for the animals, when in all reality they kill more
animals than any other animal activists group in America. In 2012, PETA euthanized 1,675 of the
1,877 animals in their facility. The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services
(VDACS) requires all animal shelters to report the number of animals they take in each year....show

Sounds interesting, right? You click on it and watch the whole 60 second video of a slaughter
farm ripping off an innocent pigs ears. You feel terrible for that harmless pig so you donate money
to their organization. Little do you know that video is either completely set up, or isn't being
properly advertised. PETA and HSUS make their money off false advertisement. They make
agriculture farms out to be the bad guy, and people believe them.
PETA has repeatedly stated, in many private interviews, how they are totally against animals, and
that they are, in fact, a profit organization. During my research I found several statements made by
PETA that shows the exact organization PETA really is, and many videos that are clearly set up.
One PETA video of a pig farmer "abusing" one of his pigs can make PETA several thousand dollars.
But its not true. Farmers do not treat their animals violently, there's no reason to! They wouldn't
make a profit if they abused the animals on their

Persuasive Essay On Animal Abuse
Why would anyone abuse an animal? Animal abuse is rather common, you could be doing it even
if you don't think you are. There are many animals that deal with abuse or neglect, about 1,423
animals a year. That's in the U.S. alone. Animals are living creatures, just like you, and they're not
cheap. Neglect is another version of abuse, and it can come in many forms. Neglect could be starving
them, not giving them medical care, not paying attention to them, etc, etc. Animals are just like
humans, I mean, sure they can't make their own meals, and they can't drive a car, but that doesn't
mean they have fewer rights than you do. If an animal is abused or neglected the animal will be
taken and the owner should be charged. If someone abuses an...show more content...
This is the simplest thing to understand. You must take care of your pets, money is only an object.
Your pet is family, your pet will be with you through everything if you treat them correctly. Again,
pets aren't cheap. Food for a dog or cat can cost $5.00 – $30.00 alone. A pet is like a child. They
depend on you to keep them alive and healthy.
There are many animals who deal with abuse everyday, and that is not okay. If an animal is
neglected or abused the pet will be taken away and the caretaker will be charged $1,500. Animals
are very loyal, such as dogs, dogs are one of the most loyal animals you can own. When abused,
they don't know where they went wrong. They only know that you are mad at them. Animals,
such as humans, shouldn't be abused or neglected. Most animals who are abused or neglected are
usually abused unintentionally, but the second most are abused on purpose. The people who
abuse animals on purpose sometimes deal with mental illnesses, were abused as children, or have
a hard time dealing with stress or anger. Animals are just like humans who have been abused.
They are usually skittish and shy. People tend to see animals differently than humans, but they are
the same in my eyes. For example, if I locked you in my basement, starved, and beat you, I'd be
charged with attempted murder and kidnapping. Pets have the same rights as you to live freely, but
people don't see it. You are able to live on your own and take care of yourself, but they

Heartless is too kind a word to describe the cruel owner who abandoned a litter of puppies at a
Corsicana, Texas car wash.
When the staff arrived on this freezing cold early December morning, hearts that were warmed by
the approaching holiday season turned icy as they saw a soaking wet cardboard box moving.
When they opened the box, they were shocked to find five adorable abandoned puppies, huddling
together for warmth.
The box, soaked from the urine of the puppies, also had a layer of pee soaked puppy kibble
covering the bottom of the box. The cruel, uncaring person who abandoned the puppies somehow
thought throwing a handful of food into the box would keep the puppies alive long enough for
people to discover them.
When East Dallas Pet Rescue was called for help, organization founder, Jaclyn Smith sent a volunteer
out to retrieve the puppies. Three of the five puppies were immediately sent to the local veterinarian
for checkups....show more content...

Forget the fact that It is a crime of animal cruelty to abandon pets because the person who can do
such a thing has no morals so I highly doubt they would care about breaking the law. But for these
moronic, heartless people there are shelters, rescue organizations and a million websites like ours
that can give needed information for unwanted puppies.

Animal abuse is an issue people hardly look at. People are not being informed enough to the abuse
of these animals. Not just dogs and cats are being abused, wild–life such as zoo animals and show
animals like in circuses. Animal cruelty is a problem that's rapidly growing, animals around the

Persuasive Essay On Animal Abuse
Animal cruelty is a huge problem around the world. People think it is ok to hurt an animal and
starve them just because they are not humans. This is not ok at all. In fact, it is illegal. My dog is
an abused animal. He is really scared by his old owner and daily tasks can be a struggle with him.
He is terrified of males and does not like young children. He has random flashbacks and flipps out.
Going to the pet store can skyrocket his anxiety. He has a love hate relationship with car rides.
Though I have worked with him a lot over the past year, there are still struggles. The vets is a
nightmare. He never had any shots or even been to the vets before in his life before we got him. It
takes 4–5 of us to hold down my 15 pound dog. We have to put down his food at a certain time
because he never knew when his next meal was and eats it so fast he gets sick. He use to be
starved days at a time. "Animal cruelty is any deliberate act. This is due by intention or neglect.
They cause an animal unnecessary pain or suffering, including inflicting pain on an animal for
the abuser's enjoyment or amusement" (Bourazak 2). Why do people think this is ok? Animals
are just like humans. They have feeling and and living breathing creatures too. Just like us. What
would give us a right to abuse them? Animal neglect is defined as the failure to provide an animal
sufficient water, food, shelter, and/or veterinary care. Also lack of grooming and lack of
sanitation. Abused animals are affected in so many ways from the abuse from us humans. Some
of the many ways they are affected by their abusers physically and behaviorally. Animals who are
abused are affected physically. My dog was burned with cigarettes and his legs were broken by
his abuser. We have to be careful picking him up because we can pull his legs out of place and
really hurt him. He was starved so much you could see his ribs and hip bones. When we think of
animal abuse, this is what we think about first. We think of the bruises and the limping. We think of
the scars and the surgeries they had to go through to fix them. This is true, but, there is also other
ways you can abuse an animal physically that you may not have thought about. Healthy pets says

Persuasive Essay On Animal Abuse
Animal abuse is a worldwide known problem, but what do people think of when the abuse is
mentioned? Animal abuse is beating animals, not feeding them enough, testing products on them,
giving them drugs, making them fight, and multiple other forms. There are countless people who
would say that most circuses, zoos, and other animal entertainment places cause abuse to the
animals, but just how many of these captive animals are actually abused? People say that keeping
animals in cages at zoos and not letting them free roam is a form of abuse that should not be
allowed. That statement can easily be argued as most do not recognize that as an animal abuse
situation considering the animals are well cared for in most zoos. Sadly, the abuse of captive
animals is cruel and dangerous and can cause increased death rates in the animals. Forty tiger cubs
were even found dead in a freezer in a so–called tiger sanctuary in Thailand. People can be ignorant
of the fact that plenty of zoos or other animal forms of entertainment are mistreating their animals;
the abuse should be recognized and punished. Animals in captivity around the world are abused
every day; however, countless people do not recognize how poorly the animals are being treated.
Unfortunately, there are numberless stories and articles about mishandled animals or dead animals
as a result of abuse. What kind of abuse? It isn't just physical abuse that is inflicted upon the animals,
but also mental abuse. The animals can be put on dangerous drugs or deal with enough physical
pain to start causing them mental problems. The mistreatment can cause depression, anxiety,
paranoia, and other critical or deadly mental problems. Recognizing the situation isn't difficult if
you are looking for symptoms of abuse in the animals, but people do not typically travel to zoos or
carnivals to solely look for abusive issues with the facility. Unfortunately, there are not a great deal
of ways to fully tell if a business like that is mistreating their animals or not since they hide what
they do. There are businesses that do not hide the fact at all, though, and still do not receive the
punishment that is deserved. "Bad Day at the Zoo" is an article written by Anne Wootton, a

Animals are sometimes treated as friends but are also treated as enemies. We keep them as pets, but
if it suits us, we slaughter them in their own habitats and in slaughterhouses. If we could kill them in
a quick and pain–free way, like a special injection, which is not harmful to us, it would be a lot
nicer to the animals being killed. However, the scenes in slaughterhouses are ones of bullying and
torture. The people hurt the animals in the most horrific ways possible, for example, slitting their
throats while they are still alive and dropping them from great heights to break their legs and necks
and other bones. These are just two of the many ways of slaughter that are used today.

Angling might be the only exception to this because without angling, the rivers would be over
populated with fish (who have a very small memory span anyway). It could disrupt the food chain.
Hunting wild animals and reptiles is not necessary. The food chain would be just fine if we stopped
wild animal hunting, for example, fox hunting, wild cat hunting, elephant hunting, crocodile hunting
and whale hunting.
We should not kill animals for fur. Thousands of years ago, our ancestors wore animal skins and
furs to keep warm and dry. Today we have man made fibres to make such garments. We can also
buy man made clothes that look and feel just like real fur, if not more comfortable. There is no
need for us to kill these poor innocent creatures for status symbols. It takes many more than five
lynx's to make one small fur coat. It is disgusting. How would you like it if some bigger stronger
creature than yourself killed you for your hair or your bones so they can make clothes out of your
hair and food delicacies out of your bones? It should be made illegal.
We should also stop testing cosmetics on animals like rabbits and rodents. We need to test
important medicines and drugs on animals because otherwise, the effects on us could be very
harmful. I say this because new drugs for epilepsy were tested on my uncle, without his consent,
and now he is mentally ill. He cannot walk very well. He cannot read or write very well. He has to

About 1 million animals per year are abused because of domestic violence that occurs in the home
where they live. "Animal cruelty can be either deliberate abuse or simply the failure to take care of
an animal. Either way, and whether the animal is a pet, a farm animal or wildlife, the victim can
suffer terribly. Don't despair, though–anyone can take steps against cruelty." People should stop
animal cruelty because hurting the animals can make the animals population go down and it can also
make the animals stressed and upset.
One reason animal cruelty should stop is because it can cause the animal's population to decrease.

Conversely, this quote shows that zoos are good for the animals and the people because the people

Persuasive Essay On Animal Abuse
All animals have the right to a natural life span without suffering neglect or cruelty (Sunni Bloyd
13). Dalai Lama once quoted, "Our prime purpose in this life is to help others. And if you can't help
them, at least don't hurt them." Some people believe that animals are the lower form of living things
that should be under the rule of human (Missimer healthguidance.org; par 4). Animal cruelty not only
affects the animal, but the person who is watching. Cruelty to animals eventually leads to domestic
violence, animal, experimentation, dog fighting and jail time. Animal abuse has tremendous effect
on children that are 7–12 years of age. According to the Humane Society, "Children that witness
someone harming an animal will think it is normal." "Abused children often "act out" their own
experiences on pets or release their fear and frustration by harming animals" (The Humane
Society of the United States; Par. 5). Children are also known to have learning disabilities and
depression from experiencing the act of animal cruelty. This could potentially be a problem later on
in life. The result in children seeing animal cruelty could further escalate into problems, such as
violence on others. Instead of children believing it is okay to harm animals, they then believe it is
okay to harm humans. This is something that can be avoided by enforcing strict laws on animal
abuse. A professor named Andrew Linzey wrote a book called "The link between animal abuse and
human violence." In this

Persuasive Essay On Animal Abuse
Animal Abuse
Animal cruelty is a serious issue in the U.S. and it needs to be stopped. Why would anyone be
cruel to animals? Why are animals used for entertainment? Should people I try to stop someone
from abusing an animal if they I see it? How can people I find out if a company tests its products on
animals? Data has stated that in America, 70.1% animal cruelty cases involved dogs, 20.9%
involved cats, and 24.1% involved other animals. Finding the answers to these questions will help
people to become more aware of animal cruelty and hopefully change their treatment on animals.
Some humans are very cruel to animals. Why would people be cruel to animals, though? There are
reasons behind reasons. For example, people use animals for testing certain products, like makeup.
(Get a quote to support this and explain it. You are using TREAC )The reason behind why certain
people do it, could be because they don't think animals deserve respect. People use animals in dog
fighting, circuses, slaughter houses, shelters, and street fairs. Some of these examples might seem
like they're cruel, but if you were in the animal's position, would you feel comfortable? An animal
can't even speak, so how would using them in these events be consented to them? An animal would
rather be doing its own thing, not forced to perform difficult obstacles that humans are capable of
doing. (Health Guidance)
Reasons behind why people abuse animals also vary. There may be unintentional or intentional
reasons. (Add a quote as your evidence and then explain the quote)For example, hoarding is
unintentional abuse. Some people have many pets and don't give enough attention to them all. Not
giving enough attention to an animal is misuse, believe it or not. An intentional reason for abusing
an animal is punishing them. For example, if a dog pees somewhere other than on its pee pad, the
owner might hit the dog. The owner might think that it's appropriate to hit them because it might
teach them not to do it again, but it doesn't help. A pet will get revenge, because it's smarter than you
think.
Animals are used for entertainment, "Animals aren't actors, spectacles to imprison and gawk at, or
circus clowns. Yet thousands of these animals are forced to

  • 2. Persuasive Essay On Animal Abuse Albert Einstein once stated, "Our task must be to free ourselves by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature and its beauty." Einstein is undoubtedly one of the most respected scientists recorded in history, and has contributed to many factors in our world. Therefore, if we accept his concepts in other fields then why not on the topic of animal cruelty? Cruelty refers to the deprivation of basic necessities needed for survival. While this issue has been the heading of many news articles the seriousness of animal cruelty has yet to occur to those reading. In two thousand and seventeen alone, thousands of animal abuse cases have been reported. Yet multiple politicians and law enforcement officials have still chosen to push the wellbeing of these creatures to the side. I plan to push government officials to create stricter laws, allow animal abusers to complete their community service at animal shelters, and educate the community about the seriousness of animal cruelty. When acrime is committed the perpetrator, if caught, will be held accountable for their actions by facing the punishment that has been established in the court of law. The purpose of these punishments is not only to discipline one for committing an illegal act, but to discourage those from wanting to commit the crime due to not wanting to face the consequences for their actions. These repercussions become more rigorous as the severity of the crime increases. For example, one who commits a murder will serve a fifteen year prison sentence while someone who litters will pay a five hundred dollar fine. Now that a basic understanding of the law system has been established this allows for one to be able to form an opinion on the lack of severity of punishments for animal cruelty. In the novel, Animal Cruelty Law in the United States, A Comparative Analysis, respected author and activist Opal Dockery states that the laws against animal abuse are much too lenient and that the history of punishments is to blame. Dockery supports his claim by references English philosopher Jeremy Bentham's novel, The Principles of Morals and Legislation, which is vital to Dockery's argument due to its conflicting Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Persuasive Essay On Animal Abuse The act of animal abuse across the US is increasing dramatically without great punishment. Animal abuse is defined as "acts of violence or neglect perpetrated against animals" (Petfinder). The act of animal abuse is currently punished with a "Three Strikes Law" which gives a felony charge and twenty–five year to a full life sentence if convicted of animal abuse three times. This law should be extended to first time abusers. The penalty should not only be extended for those accused of animal cruelty, but the government should work harder to encourage people to foster animals to keep them off of the streets and out of the shelters. People should increase their actions to protect the safety of domesticated animals. Several animals are waiting in animal shelters to be adopted, but "for every puppy or kitten who is produced by any breeder, an animal awaiting adoption at an animal shelter loses his or her chance at finding a home–and will be euthanized" ("Breeders"). This creates the problem of overcrowding in the shelters and forces the shelter to euthanize animals earlier than they would have to if the shelter had plenty of space to keep the...show more content... Even "no kill shelters" get overcrowded and have to find a way to decrease the population. Fostering pets not only benefits the animals being fostered, but can also benefit you. Fostering pets gives you the chance to love and care for a pet without the long–term commitment, fostering pets can also teach children the importance of being responsible and educate about animals. Foster pets also bring companionship. Fostering pets not only keeps the population down in shelters, but also on the streets. This would reduce the risks of injuring an animal with a vehicle or causing damage to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Persuasive Essay On Animal Abuse Have you ever wondered what Animal Abuse or Animal Cruelty is? Both of these are when someone is not giving their animal anything to eat or drink and they hurt the animal in every possible way. Animal Abuse is a very serious problem and should be stop. If you want to help than here are something you should do, Don't touch the person or animal when you see this happening because they both can put you in harm's way, You should go get an adult like someone you trust and go find help together, If you ever witness animal abuse get someone to call 911. There are many things that can happen from someone abusing animals. Some might become serial killer or pedophile that might be right next door. Many people think that if a child does animal abuse than they will act in a physical manner of violence to others. This one sociologist Suzanne Goodney Lea agrees that "if a child is involved in animal abuse they are more likely to commit physical crimes when they become adults than a child who did not participate in doing animal abuse when they were young." This is talking about if the child abused animals when they were young then they will abuse their girlfriends or wife when they get older. A woman named Janie who is a pharmacist did some studies "that have shown rapist and pedophiles engaged in animal abuse when they are young." There are many facts that prove to us that when some people partake in sexual violence you would see that they have also been involved in animal Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Persuasive Essay On Animal Abuse Imagine being abused everyday of your life with no say whatsoever in what happens to you and it seems as if no one can hear you scream. This is what many animals go through every day as the numbers of animal cruelty cases rise every day and it seems like everyone is just turning their heads to the problem. The only way to fix this problem is to take action and give animals the voice they have needed. Animals have been taken advantage of since the dawn of man when man developed tools to kill the animals that led to the extinction of some species. Animals for centuries have been victims of a horrible case of cruelty with the criminals being humans. Millions of animals are used in experiments each year to test for possible side effects that could happen in humans while using the product. This causes some issues because humans and animals are not exactly the same so they can react differently to some products which leads to the pointless deaths of thousands of animals each year. Animal tests do not reliably predict results in human beings 94 percent of drugs that pass animal tests fail in human clinical trials. Animals for medical experimentation can be burned, shocked, poisoned, isolated, starved, addicted to drugs, and brain–damaged. The government did release a set of laws to protect animals from testing, but around 95 percent of animals used for testing are not covered including mice, fish and birds. Animals are also often subjected to many cases of domestic abuse within Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Persuasive Essay On Animal Abuse Animals Being able to aid abused, injured, or ill animals, see the background of different animals, and witness shy, timid animals warm up to humans is one the the many amazing experiences that one gets to witness volunteering at an animal shelter. During the time I spend volunteering at the Youngwood Animals Friends Shelter I get the privilege to aid abused, injured, or ill animals. My first abused animal that I had helped was a black collie lab mix ame Tessa. Tessa was adog who despised humans and dogs alike. She would growl, snap, bark aggressively and do all of the signs of basic signs of defense or threats.I didn't walk her because she was on the category of 'red'. Red meant that a volunteer needed special training to walk the red dogs. I am not trained to walk said red dogs but i was able to give her treats and clean her kennel. ANother dog, who's name was Cody, he was a mix of shelties and collies. Cody was surrendered by his owners due to the fact he was roaming the neighborhood underweight and has a old leg injury. The vet determined that the leg had to be amputated due to the fact that it was no use to Cody any more and was just getting in his way of a better quality of life. The day after Cody's surgery Cody walked up the two flights of steps to get into the cat wing. He was a new dog, with his injured leg amputated he was acting like the puppy he should be acting. Sadly, Cody passed was recently due to an unknown reason. He died in his sleep on his bed in his new home Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Animal Abuse Persuasive Essay II. Campaign Theme or Focus Statement and description of the issue to be addressed A major problem in today's society is that animals are being abused globally. It doesn't matter if the animal is being starved, dehydrated, neglected, beaten, or even straight out slaughtered: it's all some form of animal abuse. Some animals, specifically dogs, are inbred and sold illegally. It's these abusive tendencies that this project is focused on to build awareness toward these issues. All types of animals are victims of abuse including dogs, cats, horses, chickens, cows, deer, goats, rabbits, and many more. The sad fact is that no animal is safe from abuse because there are such people that truly believe that any animal they come across can be used and treated as nothing more than a defective toy for their own disgusting pleasure and enjoyment....show more content... Accessed 11 Sept. 2017. Rationale for selecting the issue This project was specifically chosen because animals are living creatures that don't deserve such harsh treatments. Animals have emotions just like any other human. If you were to see a child being abused, would you want to do something about it? And if you care about a child, what makes an animal any different? Animals also aren't just considered as pets or mere objects to most of society. Any animal with a home is usually considered a part of that family. It's time to bring awareness to animal abuse so that animals without a loving home can hopefully get one. "The FBI Now Considers Animal Abuse A Felony." • 8. Persuasive Speech On Animal Abuse A.According to the animal cruelty page on the ASPCA website in 2017, one animal is abused with every passing minute. This means that by the time I finish this speech, as many as seven animals will be the victim of undeserved cruelty. Based on these statistics, about 1,440 animals will suffer today. B.The RSPCA, also known as the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, states on their animal cruelty webpage in 2017 that animal abuse is the mistreatment of animals through the physical infliction of pain, neglect, harm, or any means that are detrimental to the health, safety, or mental state of an animal. Such means include starvation, beating, or even failing to care for an animal properly. Not only is it terrible to witness, but it leaves lasting effects on the humans and animals involved. C.Animals are all around us – they are valued as pets and an important part of human society. Because of their involvement in our lives, it is important to protect them and their rights as living beings. D.In order to stop animal cruelty and the problems associated with it, we as a society need stronger animal rights laws. E.Thus, to understand how to stop the mistreatment of animals, we must first examine the depth of the problem itself and the solutions our society can use to achieve this goal. II.The mistreatment of animals is a serious problem within our society for a variety of reasons. While current laws and conditions are improving, there is still a Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Persuasive Essay On Animal Cruelty Animal Cruelty is a problem that many ignore. People are oblivious to these animals and the negligence their owners show. Animal cruelty is an underlying problem in today's society, and the only way to counteract these problems, is for this generation to do something about it. Many people do not report cases of animal cruelty. Reports of animal cruelty are less common than crimes against people. This is because the cases do not go through state agencies. The animals that come to mind when someone mentions animal cruelty is often Dogs and cats. These animals do have a higher percent rate, with dogs at 70.1%, cats at 20.9% and all other animals at 24.1%. The percent's come from cases that people report. If people were to fill all cases of animal cruelty, the rates would be much more different. A common form of negligence is people taking their animal to a place far from home to just leave them there. Animal control pick up these animals everyday and send them to shelter. For the most part the animals have a healthy portion of food and they have shelter from the environment. Most shelters are kill shelters. No–Kill shelters become less common to their counterpart. Animals not adopted within a certain period of time undergo euthanasia. This keeps room for more animals. No–kill shelters protect the animals and help rehabilitate them. The other 24.1% is the factory animals. The purpose of a factory animal's life is a food source. So the owners mistreat their animals because the animals purpose is to be a food source. It is almost as if they do not matter. They deserve animal rights just as much as the other animals do. All animals are affected by animal cruelty, even if the animal does not experience the cruelty on a personal level. Although the ones that experience the cruelty have greater issues after the abuse. Other animals like pit bulls getting a bad name by their owners being negligent. Pit bulls can be aggressive; they do have an aggressive nature about them. This is only when they are provoked, but these dogs are not dangerous. If the dog is taught right than the aggression is non–existent. If the owner is negligent to the animal and abuses the dog, it often brings out the more mean side of the dog. The Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Persuasive Essay On Peta Animal Abuse On average, 900 to 2000 more animal abuse calls are made yearly than the previous year. Government documents show that People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has killed nearly 20,000 animals since 1998. In the United States, 110 million pigs are killed yearly on pig farms. In this day and age many people seem to get facts and opinions confused, but the previous three statements are cold, terrible facts about the animals in the United States. PETA is an organization that advertises as being for the animals, when in all reality they kill more animals than any other animal activists group in America. In 2012, PETA euthanized 1,675 of the 1,877 animals in their facility. The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS) requires all animal shelters to report the number of animals they take in each year....show more content... Sounds interesting, right? You click on it and watch the whole 60 second video of a slaughter farm ripping off an innocent pigs ears. You feel terrible for that harmless pig so you donate money to their organization. Little do you know that video is either completely set up, or isn't being properly advertised. PETA and HSUS make their money off false advertisement. They make agriculture farms out to be the bad guy, and people believe them. PETA has repeatedly stated, in many private interviews, how they are totally against animals, and that they are, in fact, a profit organization. During my research I found several statements made by PETA that shows the exact organization PETA really is, and many videos that are clearly set up. One PETA video of a pig farmer "abusing" one of his pigs can make PETA several thousand dollars. But its not true. Farmers do not treat their animals violently, there's no reason to! They wouldn't make a profit if they abused the animals on their Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Persuasive Essay On Animal Abuse Why would anyone abuse an animal? Animal abuse is rather common, you could be doing it even if you don't think you are. There are many animals that deal with abuse or neglect, about 1,423 animals a year. That's in the U.S. alone. Animals are living creatures, just like you, and they're not cheap. Neglect is another version of abuse, and it can come in many forms. Neglect could be starving them, not giving them medical care, not paying attention to them, etc, etc. Animals are just like humans, I mean, sure they can't make their own meals, and they can't drive a car, but that doesn't mean they have fewer rights than you do. If an animal is abused or neglected the animal will be taken and the owner should be charged. If someone abuses an...show more content... This is the simplest thing to understand. You must take care of your pets, money is only an object. Your pet is family, your pet will be with you through everything if you treat them correctly. Again, pets aren't cheap. Food for a dog or cat can cost $5.00 – $30.00 alone. A pet is like a child. They depend on you to keep them alive and healthy. There are many animals who deal with abuse everyday, and that is not okay. If an animal is neglected or abused the pet will be taken away and the caretaker will be charged $1,500. Animals are very loyal, such as dogs, dogs are one of the most loyal animals you can own. When abused, they don't know where they went wrong. They only know that you are mad at them. Animals, such as humans, shouldn't be abused or neglected. Most animals who are abused or neglected are usually abused unintentionally, but the second most are abused on purpose. The people who abuse animals on purpose sometimes deal with mental illnesses, were abused as children, or have a hard time dealing with stress or anger. Animals are just like humans who have been abused. They are usually skittish and shy. People tend to see animals differently than humans, but they are the same in my eyes. For example, if I locked you in my basement, starved, and beat you, I'd be charged with attempted murder and kidnapping. Pets have the same rights as you to live freely, but people don't see it. You are able to live on your own and take care of yourself, but they Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Persuasive Animal Abuse Heartless is too kind a word to describe the cruel owner who abandoned a litter of puppies at a Corsicana, Texas car wash. When the staff arrived on this freezing cold early December morning, hearts that were warmed by the approaching holiday season turned icy as they saw a soaking wet cardboard box moving. When they opened the box, they were shocked to find five adorable abandoned puppies, huddling together for warmth. The box, soaked from the urine of the puppies, also had a layer of pee soaked puppy kibble covering the bottom of the box. The cruel, uncaring person who abandoned the puppies somehow thought throwing a handful of food into the box would keep the puppies alive long enough for people to discover them. When East Dallas Pet Rescue was called for help, organization founder, Jaclyn Smith sent a volunteer out to retrieve the puppies. Three of the five puppies were immediately sent to the local veterinarian for checkups....show more content... Forget the fact that It is a crime of animal cruelty to abandon pets because the person who can do such a thing has no morals so I highly doubt they would care about breaking the law. But for these moronic, heartless people there are shelters, rescue organizations and a million websites like ours that can give needed information for unwanted puppies. • 14. Persuasive Essay On Animal Abuse Animal cruelty is a huge problem around the world. People think it is ok to hurt an animal and starve them just because they are not humans. This is not ok at all. In fact, it is illegal. My dog is an abused animal. The vets is a nightmare. He never had any shots or even been to the vets before in his life before we got him. It takes 4–5 of us to hold down my 15 pound dog. We have to put down his food at a certain time because he never knew when his next meal was and eats it so fast he gets sick. He use to be starved days at a time. "Animal cruelty is any deliberate act. This is due by intention or neglect. They cause an animal unnecessary pain or suffering, including inflicting pain on an animal for the abuser's enjoyment or amusement" (Bourazak 2). Why do people think this is ok? Animals are just like humans. They have feeling and and living breathing creatures too. Just like us. What would give us a right to abuse them? Animal neglect is defined as the failure to provide an animal sufficient water, food, shelter, and/or veterinary care. Also lack of grooming and lack of sanitation. Abused animals are affected in so many ways from the abuse from us humans. Some of the many ways they are affected by their abusers physically and behaviorally. Animals who are abused are affected physically. My dog was burned with cigarettes and his legs were broken by his abuser. We have to be careful picking him up because we can pull his legs out of place and really hurt him. He was starved so much you could see his ribs and hip bones. When we think of animal abuse, this is what we think about first. We think of the bruises and the limping. We think of the scars and the surgeries they had to go through to fix them. This is true, but, there is also other ways you can abuse an animal physically that you may not have thought about. Healthy pets says "Depriving a young dog Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Persuasive Essay On Animal Abuse Animal abuse is a worldwide known problem, but what do people think of when the abuse is mentioned? Animal abuse is beating animals, not feeding them enough, testing products on them, giving them drugs, making them fight, and multiple other forms. There are countless people who would say that most circuses, zoos, and other animal entertainment places cause abuse to the animals, but just how many of these captive animals are actually abused? People say that keeping animals in cages at zoos and not letting them free roam is a form of abuse that should not be allowed. That statement can easily be argued as most do not recognize that as an animal abuse situation considering the animals are well cared for in most zoos. Sadly, the abuse of captive animals is cruel and dangerous and can cause increased death rates in the animals. Forty tiger cubs were even found dead in a freezer in a so–called tiger sanctuary in Thailand. People can be ignorant of the fact that plenty of zoos or other animal forms of entertainment are mistreating their animals; the abuse should be recognized and punished. Animals in captivity around the world are abused every day; however, countless people do not recognize how poorly the animals are being treated. Unfortunately, there are numberless stories and articles about mishandled animals or dead animals as a result of abuse. What kind of abuse? It isn't just physical abuse that is inflicted upon the animals, but also mental abuse. The animals can be put on dangerous drugs or deal with enough physical pain to start causing them mental problems. The mistreatment can cause depression, anxiety, paranoia, and other critical or deadly mental problems. Recognizing the situation isn't difficult if you are looking for symptoms of abuse in the animals, but people do not typically travel to zoos or carnivals to solely look for abusive issues with the facility. Unfortunately, there are not a great deal of ways to fully tell if a business like that is mistreating their animals or not since they hide what they do. There are businesses that do not hide the fact at all, though, and still do not receive the punishment that is deserved. What would you seriously do if you saw a homeless dog getting abused in front of you? Would you help or do nothing to stay out of the problem? Or imagen if you were the one being locked up in a small room waiting to get you skin torn off for other people to wear. See, doesn't seem fun, does it. If you were an animal, you would be terrified of having your friends losing their life just for "the fun of it". • 17. Animal Abuse Essay Animal Abuse Animals are sometimes treated as friends but are also treated as enemies. We keep them as pets, but if it suits us, we slaughter them in their own habitats and in slaughterhouses. If we could kill them in a quick and pain–free way, like a special injection, which is not harmful to us, it would be a lot nicer to the animals being killed. However, the scenes in slaughterhouses are ones of bullying and torture. The people hurt the animals in the most horrific ways possible, for example, slitting their throats while they are still alive and dropping them from great heights to break their legs and necks and other bones. These are just two of the many ways of slaughter that are used today. Meat is needed for a good...show more content... Angling might be the only exception to this because without angling, the rivers would be over populated with fish (who have a very small memory span anyway). It could disrupt the food chain. Hunting wild animals and reptiles is not necessary. The food chain would be just fine if we stopped wild animal hunting, for example, fox hunting, wild cat hunting, elephant hunting, crocodile hunting and whale hunting. We should not kill animals for fur. Thousands of years ago, our ancestors wore animal skins and furs to keep warm and dry. Today we have man made fibres to make such garments. We can also buy man made clothes that look and feel just like real fur, if not more comfortable. There is no need for us to kill these poor innocent creatures for status symbols. It takes many more than five lynx's to make one small fur coat. It is disgusting. How would you like it if some bigger stronger creature than yourself killed you for your hair or your bones so they can make clothes out of your hair and food delicacies out of your bones? It should be made illegal. We should also stop testing cosmetics on animals like rabbits and rodents. We need to test important medicines and drugs on animals because otherwise, the effects on us could be very harmful. I say this because new drugs for epilepsy were tested on my uncle, without his consent, and now he is mentally ill. He cannot walk very well. He cannot read or write very well. He has to live in a home for Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. Persuasive Essay On Animal Abuse About 1 million animals per year are abused because of domestic violence that occurs in the home where they live. "Animal cruelty can be either deliberate abuse or simply the failure to take care of an animal. Either way, and whether the animal is a pet, a farm animal or wildlife, the victim can suffer terribly. Don't despair, though–anyone can take steps against cruelty." People should stop animal cruelty because hurting the animals can make the animals population go down and it can also make the animals stressed and upset. One reason animal cruelty should stop is because it can cause the animal's population to decrease. People at the Fuzhou Zoo were throwing bricks at two kangaroos to make them jump."They had been minding their own business......show more content... "This month at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, more than 3,000 dogs will be paraded around New York's Madison Square Garden so that judges can scrutinize every inch of their bodies––from their inbred, squashed–in noses and surgically sculpted ears to their coiffured coats and stubby, amputated tails." They are being cruelty to the animals by doing things to their body. Someone had hung a dog from a tree behind a store. The teen climbed up and freed the dog from material wrapped around its neck. Pima Animal Care Center says the dog suffered minimal injury from the hanging. "Officials say a teen rescued a dog that she found hanging from a tree behind a home–improvement store in Tucson." The dog could of have had died while it was hanging from the tree. But the dog only had a minimal injury. Conversely, this quote shows that zoos are good for the animals and the people because the people get to learn about the animals. "Jack Hanna, a part–time Jupiter resident and one of the world's best–known animal experts, has a message... Zoos, are necessary and indispensable....The primary responsibility of zoos, is educating the people who visit annually. 35 percent said the zoo reinforced their existing beliefs about conservation. It's that kind of personal connection that makes people want to protect animals and conserve their environments." • 19. Persuasive Essay On Animal Abuse All animals have the right to a natural life span without suffering neglect or cruelty (Sunni Bloyd 13). Dalai Lama once quoted, "Our prime purpose in this life is to help others. And if you can't help them, at least don't hurt them." Some people believe that animals are the lower form of living things that should be under the rule of human (Missimer healthguidance.org; par 4). Animal cruelty not only affects the animal, but the person who is watching. Cruelty to animals eventually leads to domestic violence, animal, experimentation, dog fighting and jail time. Animal abuse has tremendous effect on children that are 7–12 years of age. According to the Humane Society, "Children that witness someone harming an animal will think it is normal." "Abused children often "act out" their own experiences on pets or release their fear and frustration by harming animals" (The Humane Society of the United States; Par. 5). Children are also known to have learning disabilities and depression from experiencing the act of animal cruelty. This could potentially be a problem later on in life. The result in children seeing animal cruelty could further escalate into problems, such as violence on others. Instead of children believing it is okay to harm animals, they then believe it is okay to harm humans. This is something that can be avoided by enforcing strict laws on animal abuse. A professor named Andrew Linzey wrote a book called "The link between animal abuse and human violence." In this Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 20. Persuasive Essay On Animal Abuse Animal Abuse Animal cruelty is a serious issue in the U.S. and it needs to be stopped. Why would anyone be cruel to animals? Why are animals used for entertainment? Should people I try to stop someone from abusing an animal if they I see it? How can people I find out if a company tests its products on animals? Data has stated that in America, 70.1% animal cruelty cases involved dogs, 20.9% involved cats, and 24.1% involved other animals. Finding the answers to these questions will help people to become more aware of animal cruelty and hopefully change their treatment on animals. Some humans are very cruel to animals. Why would people be cruel to animals, though? There are reasons behind reasons. For example, people use animals for testing certain products, like makeup. (Get a quote to support this and explain it. You are using TREAC )The reason behind why certain people do it, could be because they don't think animals deserve respect. People use animals in dog fighting, circuses, slaughter houses, shelters, and street fairs. Some of these examples might seem like they're cruel, but if you were in the animal's position, would you feel comfortable? An animal can't even speak, so how would using them in these events be consented to them? An animal would rather be doing its own thing, not forced to perform difficult obstacles that humans are capable of doing. (Health Guidance) Reasons behind why people abuse animals also vary. There may be unintentional or intentional reasons. (Add a quote as your evidence and then explain the quote)For example, hoarding is unintentional abuse. Some people have many pets and don't give enough attention to them all. Not giving enough attention to an animal is misuse, believe it or not. An intentional reason for abusing an animal is punishing them. For example, if a dog pees somewhere other than on its pee pad, the owner might hit the dog. The owner might think that it's appropriate to hit them because it might teach them not to do it again, but it doesn't help. A pet will get revenge, because it's smarter than you think. Animals are used for entertainment, "Animals aren't actors, spectacles to imprison and gawk at, or circus clowns. Yet thousands of these animals are forced to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
