Established in 1990, the not-for-profit Association of
Professional Investment Consultants was created to foster
innovation, collaboration, and education in the field. A clients-
first organization, it was born out of the efforts of the Financial
Advisors (FA) of Morgan Stanley and is still managed by that
company.
3. As a result, APIC is open only to investment consultants
working with Morgan Stanley, although it is separated into
different program-specific committees to address different
industry issues.
There are four different membership levels in the APIC,
depending on the applicant’s position with Morgan Stanley or
Graystone Consulting. Financial Advisors who have attained a
specific designation or title have the option of joining as either
a full voting member or as a junior member. In either case, FA
members have access to all of the benefits of APIC
membership and are eligible for positions on the board of
directors and on all APIC committees. Associate and
Management memberships also grant access to committee
activities.
