2. The History of Quicken Loans Arena
Quicken Loans Arena (known as the “Q”)
opened in 1994. The first event there was a
Billy Joel concert. It is used by the Cleveland
Cavaliers, Cleveland Gladiators, and Lake Erie
Monsters. The land it was built on used to be a
central market, where they sold fruits and
vegetables in the mid 1850’s.
3. Inside Quicken Loans Arena
Inside the Q, there are 20,562 seats for
basketball. In 2014, they put up a bigger and
cooler scoreboard that shoots flames out of it
over the basketball court. There are also stores
where you can buy jerseys, posters, basketballs
and other cool things. There are a lot of places
to buy food, too. There are even soft pretzels
that are shaped like a Q! The Cavs also the cavs

The Q is located at 1 Center Court in downtown
Cleveland Ohio. It is near Progressive Field,
where the Cleveland Indians play.
6. Before Quicken Loans Arena
The Q replaced the Coliseum, which was in
Richfield, Ohio. It was built in Cleveland to
bring more people downtown. When more
people come downtown for games, they spend
more money downtown for parking and
restaurants, which is good for the city.
7. Why the Q is Important?
The Q brings people downtown for games, and
they end up spending more money downtown
which is good for Cleveland. It is also going to
have March Madness games there this month.
And, the 2016 Republican National Convention
will be there in July, 2016. A lot of people will
travel to Cleveland for these things.
