Personal History:
I had a unique experience after high school in that I decided to go
directly into the work world and got a job at Staples. It was in this setting
that I discovered my impeccable work ethic. That is to say, I quickly
started surpassing my peers in productivity and began giving input as to
ways to improve customer satisfaction and sales. After a few short months
I was in the top three salesmen in the store and stayed there for several
months. My general manager started making comments that I could easily
make it to management if I pursued it.
I decided to move to Arizona with family and continue working at
Staples there. It was there that I was given the opportunity to work with my
church on the Haiti project as well as other humanitarian efforts. I moved
to Los Angeles, CA and was given a job as a systems administrator. This
showed another key character trait which is adaptability. When I began
this job the most experience I had with computers was playing video
games and writing English papers. I was given one week to train for a
position that included Linux, Mac, and Microsoft use and programming. I
was the administrator for approximately 200 computers and 8 servers,
both on site and off. Each of them was unstable and frequently required
programming fixes in languages I had never heard of before. I had to
adapt very quickly to learning and using these languages in high-pressure
situations where lives literally depended on my success. In addition I was
responsible for daily and weekly reports as well as meeting with vendors,
arranging and getting approved various purchases, and creating from
scratch a weekly newsletter using Indesign and Photoshop. I worked this
job 110 hours or more a week and was constantly on call.
After 15 months with only a few days off I decided I wanted to
return to Michigan to pursue school in the area of Computer Science and
got my job back at Staples of Grand Blanc. I have since taken several
courses in programming and will be shortly transferring from Mott to U of
M Flint. I would like to get a job which better uses my skills and challenges
my ability to excel in any situation I am presented. I am a quick learner
with an IQ of 138 and very much a people person, proficient in dealing
with customers, employees, and management in a professional manner. I
appreciate your time in reading this and your consideration for this
position.
