Khotang is one of the fourteen districts of KiratState of Province No. 1, situated in eastern Nepal. The Administrative centre of khotang district is Diktel, which covers an area of 1,591 km2. The total population of the District is 205,255 according to 2011 census.

indigenous ethnic groups of Rai,
Brahmin, Chhetri, Janajati, Dalit. It is
found that Nepali, Rai, Tamang, Sherpa
are the languages spoken in this
district. It is rich in natural and cultural
heritage, not only that it also has
significant religious values in the lives
of people living in Nepal. There are
various famous temple and religious
site in Khotang.
3. Halesi Mahadev Temple is one of
the most ancient and holiest place
located in eastern part of Nepal. It is
situated above 3,100 ft. – 4,734 ft.
above sea level. The temple is
located at the top of a small hill
inside a cave. This is one of the
renowned sanctuary of Lord Shiva.
Faith hold that Lord Shiva hiding
here from the demon Bhasmasur.
This house of Lord Shiva gives a true
sense of spirituality and faith in God. On
occasion of Shivaratri, Rama Navami and
Ganesh Chaturthi, a religious fair is
organized at the place.
4. Another popular religious destination of khotang district is Baraha Pokhari at the
Baraha Pokhari VDC. According to Hindu Myth, the creation of the lake in the time
immemorial by God Baraha ( the incarnation of lord Vishnu in the form of wild boar). It
is located at an altitude of about 1700m above the sea level, Baraha Pokhari is
surrounded by huge mountains – Himalchuli, Boudha Himal, Manaslu, Annapurna and
even Machhapuchhre.
5. Bahara Pokhari is an ideal spot for
a retreat, contemplation and
meditation with different coloured
rhododendron trees in the district.
On occasion of Baishak Purnima
(Nepali New year, which fall
around mid-April). One of the
major attractiveness of the place is
that the color of the water in the
lake changes along with the
season.
The colorful fish of various kinds are seen in the lake and perfectly clear water makes
this place best to visit. The beautiful green surrounding of the pond and the nearby
Bhara temple adds to the religious significance of the place.
6. Dhodreshwor Mahadev is located in Ratanchha VDC ward no 2. It is a sacred site with
high religious significance as well as a great wonder of nature.
The cave has the capacity of
holding 700 people at a time, has
several symbolic images of gods
and goddess. The cave can be
enter bu two gateways, one on its
west and another on north
meanwhile there is an
unfathomable tunnel to the east.
There is an opening to the sky
close to northern gateway which
provide light to cave.
7. Danda kharka hill is situated in
the boundary of khotang and
solukhumbu about 2500 meters
above from sea level. We can
see clearly visible of Mount
Everest, Lhotse, Cho Oyu and
Mount Makalu from the Danda
Kharka hill. Amng fourteen
highest peaks we can see four
highest peaks of the world can
be seen from this view point.
There are many other similar view point’s like Dharma Danda, Ghyangkharka,
Runa Danda offer magnificent view of the Himalayas of Nepal.
8. Salpa pokhari is one of the best place to explore as religious, culture and natural
resources because of this, it has a great potential to attract tourist from all over
the world. But many people don’t know about it or it is still very untouched by
the tourist. It takes 3 weeks journey taking flight to lamidanda from Kathmandu
or drive to halesi from Kathmandu.
