Who Is The Antagonist In Safe Haven
Nicholas Sparks has created a romance, but this film isn't the same as the others; there are more
drama and suspense. The film Safe Haven is based on the novel by Sparks, its about a strange young
woman who appears in a small town inside of North Carolina. The woman known as Erin escaped
town and changed her appearance and name to Katie she was accused of murder. When she arrived
in the small town of Southport she met a nice family and had grown close to them. Eventually, her
past started to haunt her, and she had to face all the drama that occurred. Safe Haven was a very
dramatic movie that shows how creative the author is. The cast and directors drew the audience to
the film, the plot twist was unexpected, and while watching this movie, ... Show more content on

While watching Safe Haven I was lost, I had no clue of what was happening. Towards the end of the
movie, I finally caught onto the plot twist and paid more attention to the movie. Therefore, I decided
to watch the film again for the second time to connect everything together. The film was a little
confusing and in order to know what will really happen, you must watch it to the end or maybe more
than once. There was a lot of characters which made the movie hard to review, without knowing
each character or their personality you might not understand certain scenes and

Personal Narrative : Nicholas Sparks
It was an early spring Friday morning in my senior English class when I received a text from my
dad: "I got us two tickets to the Nicholas Sparks movie premiere for The Lucky One tonight, and
word has it that there's lots of celebrities coming to town." Of course, I was ecstatic and could
hardly wait to get home from school and get ready. For my small hometown of New Bern, this was a
huge deal. It only happened to be here because it's Nicholas Sparks' hometown as well.
I drove home from school that day and immediately started curling my hair and putting makeup on.
My dad came home around 4:30 to pick me up so we could go eat downtown at our favorite
restaurant, Morgan's Tavern and Grill. After finishing, we walked down the street to the ... Show

One of the more famously known posts to her YouTube channel is known as "The Breakup," which
is a video she posted about her break up back in April of 2016. I told her how this video had lead me
through mine, and how she taught me a lesson that I would never forget: Don't let yourself be bound
in bitterness. This brought tears to her eyes, hearing from just an ordinary girl like me, how much
that video means to so many teenage girls.
As the night went on, the time quickly approached for the start of the movie. Of course, all the
celebrities had special seating in the front of the theater and the rest of the viewers filled the rest of
the room. The movie started, but nothing more than meeting Sadie was on my mind. I could've only
hoped that I would run into her again and be able to talk more with her. The movie was amazing,
especially since Zac Efron was in it. My friends were texting me through the whole movie in
amazement after seeing my post on Instagram with Sadie. After the movie ended, there was a small
after party for the celebrities and any adults that had gotten tickets to the show. With this being said,

The Notebook Ethos
Behind Great Love Lies A Great Story Nicholas Sparks' tragic love story The Notebook is a
touching story about two people and their eternal passion of true love which is beautifully portrayed
by Nick Cassavetes in the film. Pathos is used in the film to draw members of the audience to the
characters and influence them to feel passionate towards the characters. Cassavetes does this by
making the movie more dramatic than the book. The director effectively uses pathos to add drama in
The Notebook which makes the movie's audience more emotionally connected to the story. The plot
is evidently more climatic as the main events are exaggerated in the film. The feel of the overall
screenplay is distinctive than the novel. The characters also play ... Show more content on

The different descriptions and dialogues of Allie and Noah are what bring the change into their
relationship. In the novel, Noah is described as a quiet and shy poet. "Although he was quiet, years
of heavy lifting at the lumberyard helped him excel in sports, ... An occasional person found him
arrogant; most simply figured he had grown up a bit faster than everyone else." (Sparks 24) Whereas
in the film, Noah is very outgoing and confident. He does not stop until he gets what he wants. This
is evident when Noah climbs on the ferris wheel and hangs from the bars at the carnival where he
asks Allie to go out with him. She refuses and he blackmails her by making her think that he will fall
down from such a height. Allie becomes frightened and agrees to go out with him, little did she
know that this was his plan all along. The change in Noah's description changes his personality and
the way the audience views him as an individual character. Allie and Noah's tone of dialogues are
also changed to make them seem more modern. In the book, Allie agrees to spend time with Noah
without any objection. "...the four of them stayed at the festival until the crowds were thin and
everything closed up for the night. They met the following day, and the day after that, and they soon
became inseparable." (Sparks 13) This circumstance would not exist in today's society as females
have their personal preferences. This is seen in the movie when Allie plays 'hard to get' and rejects
Noah several times when he reminds her of the date. "'What are you doing tonight?' ... 'Why?' 'Why?
Our date.' 'What date?' 'The date that you agreed to.' 'No!' 'Yes, you did. You promised, and you
swore it.' 'Well, I guess I changed my mind.' ... 'Come on, one date. What's it gonna hurt?' 'Umm..I
don't think so.'" (Cassavetes) Noah is also very understanding with Allie's decision to leave him

The Notebook By Nicholas Sparks
The movie The Notebook is based on a romance novel written by Nicholas Sparks. It begins in a
nursing home with Duke, also known as Noah reading to an elderly woman, Allie Hamilton. Allie
has dementia, therefore has slowly been losing her memory. Duke reads the story of two lovers
(Allie and Noah) who meet in South Carolina at a carnival one summer night. Allie was a rich and
privileged seventeen–year–old city girl. Noah, however, was a small town country boy. The two
spent the whole summer together but Allie was forced by her parents to move and go to college,
although she was willing to give it up for Noah. Noah wrote Allie 365 letters that she never received
due to her mom hiding them from her. Seven years later, Allie meets and falls in love with a wealthy
soldier named Lon. One day Allie came across Noah's picture in the paper next to a newly restored
house, a house that they had once shared a passion filled night in. Seeing Noah's picture in the paper
drew Allie right back to him. They ended up spending a couple of days together and towards the end
Allie decides she does not want to leave. Allie has to choose between Noah and her fiancé, Lon. The
story then stops, and leads back to the nursing home. The now older, yet sickly Allie miraculously
begins to remember that she was the girl from the story. A day later, Allie and Noah were found dead
in the same bed holding hands.

Why I Think the Notebook is worth seeing
If you like the simplicity of the 1940's, their clothing, cars, love and romance this might be a movie
you should see and why I really like this movie. It takes you from where you are in your own life,
and into the lives of this couple. Nicholas Sparks wrote this novel from what he witnessed firsthand;
he used the relationship of his wife's grandparents as the basis of this film. And their names are
Noah and Allie; he gives us a glimpse into their lives by sharing their stories. They express their
commitment, devotion, and unwavering love for one another throughout this movie. As well as
disappointment's, such as Allie's parent's dislike of Noah's financial situation and the reality of what
her future might look like. In spite, of the obstacles they faced, and years of separation. Allie and
Noah never gave up on their love. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One example is the unusual way he asked her out, risking his own life he jumped onto a Ferris
wheel while it was in motion barely hanging onto the frame and he wouldn't get down until she
agreed to go out with him. He expressed his love through his actions towards her by listening to
what she had to say; what she liked to do or was interested in. He felt that she was always trying to
please everyone else trying to be what her parents wanted her to be, afraid of making someone else
unhappy. She loved Noah she didn't care who knew it. They were inseparable and in love, where

The Lovers, By Rachel Mcadams And Ryan Gosling
"We're gonna have to work at this everyday, but I want to do that because I want you. I want all of
you, forever, everyday. You and me...everyday." Sound familiar? The lovers are named Allie
Hamilton and Noah Calhoun, also known as Duke. As young people, these characters are played by
Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling. These actors portray first loves and heartbreak that tugs on
your heartstrings beautifully just wanting and waiting for more.
Starting off the movie with a beautiful scene looking across a sunrise–filled lake, which it gives off
a comfortable, warm feeling to the viewers at home or in the theater. Then it pans out to an elder
Noah Calhoun (played by James Garner) taking his daily medicine in a nursing home. Third scene
shows an also elderly Allie Hamilton (Gena Rowlands) looking over the lake from her bedroom
window. A nurse is asking her several questions about how she is feeling and what she would like to
do that day. Allie doesn't give off any interest in doing anything the nurse is suggesting. Noah enters
her room with a notebook, offering to read to her. The nurse insists that Allie should do something
else but Allie quickly accepts Noah's offer and sits herself down to listen to him read from the
notebook that which she wrote many years ago. This sets up the opening of the classic love story,
"The Notebook."
The setting goes between a summer in South Carolina in the 1940's with the young version of the
lovers and present day time with the elderly version

The Notebook Directed By Nick Cassavetes
"It was an improbable romance. He was a country boy. She was from the city. She had the world at
her feet, while he didn't have two dimes to rub together." In the 2004 movie the Notebook directed
by Nick Cassavetes we see an unlikely romance between a rich city girl, Allie Hamilton (Rachel
McAdams), and a poor country boy Noah Calhoun (Ryan Gosling). Based on the bestselling book
by Nicholas Sparks, the Notebook shows us how relationships change throughout different stages of
our lives but love will never diminish.
The film begins with a scene at a nursing home, where see an old man, Duke, reading to a woman,
Allie, whose memory has started to slip due to Alzheimer 's. He pulls an old notebook and in a
flashback we are taken to Seabrook Island, North Carolina in the 1940's. This is where we meet
Noah Calhoun a dirt poor local kid who is played by Ryan Gosling. Gosling, who is undeniably one
of the most popular actors of our generation, does an outstanding job portraying his character. His
ease and confidence makes us believe he was made to play this role. When he tells Allie that
relationships are something you don't give up on "So it 's not gonna be easy. It 's going to be really
hard; we 're gonna have to work at this every day, but I want to do that because I want you. I want
all of you, forever, every day. You and me" He speaks with such great passion and emotion that it
tugs at our heartstrings. The movie then continues to a carnival where Noah first sees Allie and

Examples Of Dementia In The Notebook
The Notebook is a 2004 romance based on the best–selling Nicholas' Sparks novel. In the beginning
of the film, there is an elderly woman and man in a nursing home who appear to have little relation.
He reads daily to her which gives her a daily routine. What she doesn't know is that he is actually
her husband and is retelling their life story over and over. She has no recollection of these events
and memories due to her disease. She has Alzheimer's disease. Throughout the film, she has several
interactions with him unaware of his identity, as well as with her children. She has lucid moments
for a brief time frame where she will remember him and their past, but this quickly fades and she
becomes aggressive and frightened. There are four identified forms of dementia: Alzheimer's
disease, vascular dementia, Lewy Body dementia, and Frontotemporal dementia. Alzheimer's is the
most common and is discussed in the following paragraphs. Vascular dementia is the second most
common form. It is caused by several small strokes that result in brain damage. The severity of this

Sparks' Style
Stylistic elements are used by many authors in different ways. Nicholas Sparks has a clear style that
is easy to catch on to. In The Notebook and The Best of Me by Nicholas Sparks, the author uses
elements to make a comparison through the two stories. The most distinguish elements he uses are
symbolism, imagery, and diction.
One of the elements Nicholas Sparks uses is symbolism. Sparks includes symbolism in his stories to
contribute to the thought of fate. The most significant symbol in The Notebook is Noah's letters that
he writes to Allie. The letters symbolize his everlasting love for her. On page 157, Noah says, "I
wrote to you for a year and I never got anything back from you, but I still had hope"(The Notebook).
He wishes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sparks uses imagery for the reader to picture things the characters are going through. In The
Notebook, Sparks gives his readers a thought of Allie and Noah watching swans and ducks on a lake
at sunset. "We sit silently and watch the world around us"(The Notebook 103). Readers can picture
Allie and Noah sitting there at the lake watching what is going on around them. According to
thecreviews.com, "Not only do we get to see the beginnings of a relationship, we also get to see one
very advanced in years, but no less passionate for the passage of time"(The Review Club). The
author is proving readers can see how the relationship grows in the story through imagery. In The
Best of Me, Sparks uses imagery to give readers a better understanding of how the story plays out.
Sparks says, "Dawson carved the word forever into Tuck's workbench"(The Best of Me 103). This
was while Dawson and Amanda were still together as teenagers. Readers can imagine two teens
carving into wood and seeing what it looks like with their initials in it. He uses another piece of
imagery on page 177, "Walking beside her, she felt Dawson reach for her hand..." She could trace
the years of labor engraved into his callouses. "Tiny wounds had scarred his palms, but his touch
was improbably gentle"(The Best of Me). This type of imagery helps visualize Amanda and
Dawson's intimate moments that remind them of their past. Sparks uses vivid imagery to make the
reader feel like they are watching the love story

a very wealthy family and made a lot of money as a lawyer, so to them he was perfect for her. They
were all happy and were busy trying to get things ready for Allie and Lon's wedding. Noah still in

Am–nē–zha The sun was ascending so fast on the horizon when Aika and I blundered through the
market as we way back from jogging on the Kuala Lumpur street. The aroma of coffee permeated
the market 's air. As we were walking, I stopped after identifying some fascinating small portrait
sneaking at the corner of a chair. "Wait, I need to see something," I beamed to Aika. She whipped
her head and when I looked, shooting one last glance toward her, she shooed me with her right hand
in the air. Then, she indicated she was going to grab some cappuccino from Starbuck located in the
middle of the street. I gave her the signal and diverted my attention on the miniature. I edged slowly
into the chair and I crouched down to pick the portrait, to get a better look. My eyes irresistibly draw
to the crack at the center of the portrait. I put it back, with my brown eyes lit up at the price tag, who
had introduced into shrinking cost. I walked away from the stall and as I rambled down the street to
rejoin Aika. I saw a diary located on the sidewalk. It was bounded by brown paper, twine wrapped
around it and a dusty plastic flower at the center. I took a step to pick it up on the highest shelf. Then
my heart began to hammer in my ribcage, as I slid the flower on the right side, eyes widened to the

Comparison Of Love In The Notebook And The Time Traveler's...
How do Nicholas Sparks and Audrey Niffenegger explore the ways the pursuit of an ideal love
shapes human relationships?
The pursuit of an ideal and perfect love and the way that this endeavor shapes human relationships
is a defining connection between the characters of The Notebook and The Time Traveler's Wife,
written respectively by Nicholas Sparks and Audrey Niffenegger. The suggestion of, not only desire
for an ideal love but also a deep–seated need for this kind of love is something that becomes very
familiar to the reader in The Notebook, as it is witnessed by the fate–like reconnection between
Noah and Allie. Although their love has been interrupted and tampered with by outside parties, and
in spite of this, their love endures and flourishes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The setting of the home is used throughout both texts. This evokes a sense of comfort and
homeliness in the reader, therefore making them proportionally more sympathetic towards the
relationships of both the central couples in question and allows them to interrelate the situations in
their own lives. Noah's 1946 plantation home is one that is full of life. His home is a refuge that is
laden with memories of Allie. In particular, 'a picture of [Allie's] dreams' is located in the central
location of the house, 'see desire in . . . every stroke' symbolizes the ever–changing nature of their
relationship, just as Allie was 'adding to it every day, changing it as our relationship changed'. Much
like Allie's painting, Henry and Clare's house in Chicago mirrors their married life, marked by ups
and downs. It has seen their characters and relationships develop, at times being a safe haven where
the house 'envelops us, watches us, contemplates us' as though it were a guardian. The house,
however, also sees Henry's frequent disappearances and Clare's endless longing, a 'love intensified
by absence'. It 'watches' the many arguments, Clare's multiple miscarriages, and eventually Henry's
death, morphing and altering with each new event. Through the setting of the nursing home, Sparks
is able to evoke the emotions of longing, distress, and pity in the reader. It is a place of sadness and
loss, with the constant reminder of an entire life, not remembered, 'she would stare at forgotten
offspring, hold paintbrushes that inspired nothing, and read love letters that brought back no joy.'
This loss symbolizes the unpredictable way is which a love and a relationship can change so
dramatically so quickly. Sparks is able to embed the idea that once a deep and ideal love is found, it
may not remain so pristine and complete after a time. This is

What Is The Purpose Of The Book Two By Nicholas Sparks
Marriage is always a difficult thing; at least, everyone claims it to be. In the book Two by Two,
Nicholas Sparks incorporates the difficulties of marriage into one book. Personally, I believe this is
the best book Sparks has written. Nicholas Sparks hasn't always been the best of authors, but this
book took me by surprise. I love the way Sparks provides characterization, to him providing a life
lesson, and interprets so much emotion into this book. Sparks made the book from the Husband,
Russ, perspective. I feel if he were to have put the wife's perspective into the book as well, the
reading would have been more interesting to see the way she thought about the situations they
encountered. Sparks made the wife seem as an evil, uncaring person; but, Sparks made the husband
talk about her as if she was a saint. As the reader, I was not a fan of the wife, Vivian. But Sparks left
that out from the husband. Ever after they got into an argument, the husband managed to talk about
how beautiful she was, and she was still on top of the world. I found that amazing. Eventually
throughout the book, Vivian, the wife, left them. As for the child, the little girl is just as innocent,
yet, she gets thrown into the mix. Sparks made her seem like she was a little angel, but she was the
cause of multiple arguments. But you can't pin the child, so I ... Show more content on

moment where he realized how much one thing can forever change his life. He is "Mr. Mom"

Hamlet is talking to himself, but also the audience. The difference is Hamlet was a play, but this is a

Love conquers everything, no matter how hard trials are. Love indeed breaks through any obstacles
that henders two lovers from being together. Even TIME could never stop it.
What this title actually means in the story is a notebook filled with love stories between Allie Nelson
and Noah Calhoun. During the summer that Allie and Noah were in love, they wrote down all of
their memories and what they did over that summer in the "notebook". The notebook tracked their
love for each other and what they did and how they loved to each other from day to day. Even
though they were apart from each other for fourteen years, they both knew that they couldn't live
without each other. Their notebook filled with love stories just couldn't stop them from falling in
love and being with each other. When Allie goes to visit Noah in the book, Noah reads some of the
notebook about what they did over that summer with Allie. That would hopefully make her fall back
in love with Noah again.

In the book "The Notebook", the meaning of unconditional love was emphasized through what
happened in the characters' experiences. It can be observed through the flashbacks that since the

"The purpose of this paper is to write about the similarities and difference of two movies: The
Choice and The Notebook. Nicholas Sparks really knows how to set a romantic/emotional, but also
creates a very predictable love story plot–line. You could predict the ending before the movie started
with only knowing who the movie was based on a Nicholas Sparks novel. There is always a boy

The Theme Of Courage In Nicholas Sparks's 'Safe Haven'
"It was him, looming over them, a gun at his side. Kevin" (Sparks 309). A battered wife, Katie, runs
away to a small town in North Carolina called Southport, in order to start a new life. She is a
waitress at a local restaurant there, but keeps a low profile. She soon meets a widower named Alex
and his children, and finally begins to feel safe. Just as Katie has moved on, her abusive husband,
Kevin, a detective for the Boston Police Department, finds her after months of searching. Now, the
past is no longer in the past. In his 2010 novel Safe Haven, Nicholas Sparks uses the theme of
courage to demonstrate that a person has to do what is ultimately best for them and what it takes to
survive, reinforcing this theme by building Katie's complex background and illustrating her fight for
freedom.
Katie shows courage by leaving her husband, despite how scared she was to finally do it after three
years of torture. She explains her feelings and experiences to her only friend in Southport named Jo.
Katie narrated her story in third–person, as if it were a friend who went through the horror, "My
friend is scared all the time" (Sparks 66). Jo replied, "That's what courage is. If she weren't scared,
she wouldn't need courage in the first place. I admire what she did" (Sparks 67). I believe Sparks
made it very clear that Jo's character is the voice of wisdom in the story because she always seems
to have the right answer. Continuing on, Katie knew she could not survive staying with Kevin,

What Is The Similarities Between The Longest Ride And The...
Imagine spending your free time sobbing to a terribly sad movie... doesn't sound too great does it?
Yet somehow Nicholas Sparks seems to captivate audiences with his movies that do just that. Sparks
has written countless books that have then been recreated into movies. The Notebook and The
Longest Ride are just two of his popular movies. While Sparks is the author of both books, this is
not the only similarity; these movies are romantic, go from present day to past, and show how much
tragedy affects families. Overall The Longest Ride is about Luke, a bull rider (Scott Eastwood), and
Sophia, an art major at college (Britt Robertson). Luke and Sophia meet at a rodeo, and began to fall
in love. While driving home from a date, they encounter an ... Show more content on

Each is about a couple that falls in love, and how different situations break them apart, but
ultimately they come back to each other. While the movies are romances, there are also numerous
romantic gestures these couples share. One of which is letter writing. In The Longest Ride, letters
were shared between Ira and Ruth to communicate while Ira was at war. In The Notebook, Noah
wrote Allie a letter everyday for 365 days while he was also at the war. In both of these movies the
letters were one of the biggest details to the plot, along with both men going to WWII. Ultimately
both couples loving each other unconditionally and eventually finding their ways back to each other
through writing letters, and past the hardship of the war, is what makes them so much alike. While
these movies are 10 years apart, they are much closer than that in similarity. Like mentioned earlier,
while Sophia reads Ira the letters the viewer sees what the letter is about and what happened on that
day during the letter. The Notebook is similar in that while Duke (Old Noah) is reading the old
letters and story to Allie, she remembers what happened that day and the viewer is taken to the past.
This is such a huge similarity because generally movies are all in the present, but both of these take
us through a journey of both the present and the

. Within a shockingly short span of time, Sparks went from being a relative unknown to being a
writer with a book deal and $1 million movie rights contract (Bio Channel). Once again, though,
Sparks' triumph gave way to devastation when his father was killed at the age of 54 in an
automobile accident.. The book, later titled Message in a Bottle, was inspired by his parents'
relationship. Skeptical that he'd really made it as a writer, Sparks continued to sell pharmaceuticals
while he wrote the book. He finally retired from sales in February 1997, when he managed to sell
Message in a Bottle to a Hollywood studio before the book was even completed (Bio Channel). The
subsequent years have brought more novels, as well as more Hollywood–blockbuster adaptations of
Sparks' work. The lineup includes The Rescue (2001), A Bend in the Road (2001), Nights in

This passion for loves runs wild in all of his books, from "The Notebook" with Noah and Allie, to

having someone close to you die. Not all of his books have this in the story line, in fact neither of
the two books that I chose to read for this assignment had one of the main characters die. But in
many of his other stories one of the main character dies. Like Allie dies in The Notebook, and Jamie
ends up dying in A Walk to Remember. Even though it is extremely difficult to cope with their
deaths the other main characters get through it, at their own pace of course. The main characters of
his novels are seldom based on real people in Sparks' life. Having Jamie die was based on how his
sister died from cancer, which is also how Jamie dies. In addition to that his mother died, and it just

that was written by Nicholas Sparks. Nicholas Sparks was born on December 31, 1965, in Omaha,

to hide her dark secret. She avoided making friends and she stayed hidden to avoid getting her

justice be served to Kevin (Katie's husband)? I strongly dislike this character, because he is abusive

Love And Love In Nicholas Sparks's The Last Song
"A romantic film is a love story recorded in visual media for broadcast in theaters and on TV. It
focuses on passion, emotion, as well as the affectionate, romantic involvement of the main
characters. It shows their journey that's genuinely strong and true along with where the pure
romantic love will take them through dating" (Dictionary). Romantic films tell the story of two
unlikely characters who meet and fall in love. As the films continue, the characters are torn apart,
and soon come to the realization of how much they truly love each other as they search for a way to
get back together. The Last Song (2010) is a film that shows the struggle of two young teens that fall
in love but are split apart when tragedy hits them.
On September 1, 2009, Nicholas Sparks released his fourteenth book, The Last Song which is about
a young girl named Ronnie Miller, who spends the summer with her father at Wrightsville Beach,
where he's been living the past few years. In the beginning of the movie, she's a rebellious
seventeen–year–old girl, but soon changes her ways when she meets the boy of her dreams, Will

seventeen. Sparks said, "Usually after those words pop into my head, I move into a

In our world today, there are a variety of different techniques used to help students fully understand
and be more engaged in a topic. We all have our own interest and opinions that can be based off of
how we were raised and even how society can persuade us to believe in things. With such a diverse
world, it is not uncommon to have multiple ways in which we prefer to read, write, and comprehend
what we are learning. Some of us may take an interest in reading and writing, while others may
completely disagree because they feel it's not meaningful to them or they don't care enough to take
the time to pursue an interest in it.
Personally English has always been the topic and class I dread going to. I've never tried to engage
myself in the material because of my stubborn old self convincing me it's not an interest of mine.
However, that changed the summer of eighth grade year going into my freshman year. I was finally
able to take sometime that summer to willingly sit down and read a book of my own interest. That
book happened to be The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks. It really brought out a different perspective
on reading for me, not only because the storyline, but to come to the realization that authors really
do speak to their readers. I was never able to understand what that meant until I read The Notebook.

school in California in 1984 as Valedictorian. His earlier years were rough. "Because my father was
a student until I was nine years old and my mother didn't work, we weren't exactly living the high

Book Review Of The Notebook By Nicholas Sparks
I read The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks, a 250 page novel published on October 1, 1996. This book
can be classified as realistic fiction, but is considered to be a romance novel due to the heart pulling
plot line of two star–crossed lovers. My attention was caught quickly when I saw this book, because
I had watched the movie with my girlfriend which motivated me to read it. It took me about three
days to read behind Mrs. Kosters desk, each day during the same week; it was a quick and easy read.
This work was completely fiction; however, Sparks was inspired by his wife's beloved grandparents.
They had spent over sixty years together, with their story being shared with Sparks and his wife,
inspiration from their love made its way into the book. Noah comes back, after fighting in World
War ll, to his home in New Bern, Carolina. Where he spends his days building a house to distract
himself from remencising on a girl he fell in love with over a summer shared together. Allie, who is
about to get married, stumbles upon a newspaper with Noah on it; curiousity gets the best of her and
she decides to visit him. Both have been separated for fourteen years due to social class, with Allie
coming from a wealthy family, and Noah who worked at a lumberyard. Reuniting brings out a tidal
wave of emotions and memories that have been long locked away from both of them, with Noah
being in bewilderment and saying "I still can't believe it's you. How did you find me?" (Sparks 39).
Allie slowly

Hamilton didn't change. Noah represents true love and true faith.
James Garner as Duke (Old Noah Calhoun) – The husband of Allie Hamilton and he is the narrator
of the notebook.
Flat character – because he shows the same characteristics even if he suffers a lot of disease and
Allie Hamilton did not recognize him, he still love her until the end.

Who Is The Antagonist In Safe Haven

  • 1. Who Is The Antagonist In Safe Haven Nicholas Sparks has created a romance, but this film isn't the same as the others; there are more drama and suspense. The film Safe Haven is based on the novel by Sparks, its about a strange young woman who appears in a small town inside of North Carolina. The woman known as Erin escaped town and changed her appearance and name to Katie she was accused of murder. When she arrived in the small town of Southport she met a nice family and had grown close to them. Eventually, her past started to haunt her, and she had to face all the drama that occurred. Safe Haven was a very dramatic movie that shows how creative the author is. The cast and directors drew the audience to the film, the plot twist was unexpected, and while watching this movie, ... • 3. Personal Narrative : Nicholas Sparks It was an early spring Friday morning in my senior English class when I received a text from my dad: "I got us two tickets to the Nicholas Sparks movie premiere for The Lucky One tonight, and word has it that there's lots of celebrities coming to town." Of course, I was ecstatic and could hardly wait to get home from school and get ready. For my small hometown of New Bern, this was a huge deal. It only happened to be here because it's Nicholas Sparks' hometown as well. I drove home from school that day and immediately started curling my hair and putting makeup on. My dad came home around 4:30 to pick me up so we could go eat downtown at our favorite restaurant, Morgan's Tavern and Grill. After finishing, we walked down the street to the ... I told her how this video had lead me through mine, and how she taught me a lesson that I would never forget: Don't let yourself be bound in bitterness. This brought tears to her eyes, hearing from just an ordinary girl like me, how much that video means to so many teenage girls. As the night went on, the time quickly approached for the start of the movie. Of course, all the celebrities had special seating in the front of the theater and the rest of the viewers filled the rest of the room. The movie started, but nothing more than meeting Sadie was on my mind. I could've only hoped that I would run into her again and be able to talk more with her. The movie was amazing, especially since Zac Efron was in it. My friends were texting me through the whole movie in amazement after seeing my post on Instagram with Sadie. After the movie ended, there was a small after party for the celebrities and any adults that had gotten tickets to the show. With this being said, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Notebook Ethos Behind Great Love Lies A Great Story Nicholas Sparks' tragic love story The Notebook is a touching story about two people and their eternal passion of true love which is beautifully portrayed by Nick Cassavetes in the film. Pathos is used in the film to draw members of the audience to the characters and influence them to feel passionate towards the characters. Cassavetes does this by making the movie more dramatic than the book. The director effectively uses pathos to add drama in The Notebook which makes the movie's audience more emotionally connected to the story. The plot is evidently more climatic as the main events are exaggerated in the film. The feel of the overall screenplay is distinctive than the novel. The characters also play ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The different descriptions and dialogues of Allie and Noah are what bring the change into their relationship. In the novel, Noah is described as a quiet and shy poet. "Although he was quiet, years of heavy lifting at the lumberyard helped him excel in sports, ... An occasional person found him arrogant; most simply figured he had grown up a bit faster than everyone else." (Sparks 24) Whereas in the film, Noah is very outgoing and confident. He does not stop until he gets what he wants. This is evident when Noah climbs on the ferris wheel and hangs from the bars at the carnival where he asks Allie to go out with him. She refuses and he blackmails her by making her think that he will fall down from such a height. Allie becomes frightened and agrees to go out with him, little did she know that this was his plan all along. The change in Noah's description changes his personality and the way the audience views him as an individual character. Allie and Noah's tone of dialogues are also changed to make them seem more modern. In the book, Allie agrees to spend time with Noah without any objection. "...the four of them stayed at the festival until the crowds were thin and everything closed up for the night. They met the following day, and the day after that, and they soon became inseparable." (Sparks 13) This circumstance would not exist in today's society as females have their personal preferences. This is seen in the movie when Allie plays 'hard to get' and rejects Noah several times when he reminds her of the date. "'What are you doing tonight?' ... 'Why?' 'Why? Our date.' 'What date?' 'The date that you agreed to.' 'No!' 'Yes, you did. You promised, and you swore it.' 'Well, I guess I changed my mind.' ... 'Come on, one date. What's it gonna hurt?' 'Umm..I don't think so.'" (Cassavetes) Noah is also very understanding with Allie's decision to leave him ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. The Notebook By Nicholas Sparks The movie The Notebook is based on a romance novel written by Nicholas Sparks. It begins in a nursing home with Duke, also known as Noah reading to an elderly woman, Allie Hamilton. Allie has dementia, therefore has slowly been losing her memory. Duke reads the story of two lovers (Allie and Noah) who meet in South Carolina at a carnival one summer night. Allie was a rich and privileged seventeen–year–old city girl. Noah, however, was a small town country boy. The two spent the whole summer together but Allie was forced by her parents to move and go to college, although she was willing to give it up for Noah. Noah wrote Allie 365 letters that she never received due to her mom hiding them from her. Seven years later, Allie meets and falls in love with a wealthy soldier named Lon. One day Allie came across Noah's picture in the paper next to a newly restored house, a house that they had once shared a passion filled night in. Seeing Noah's picture in the paper drew Allie right back to him. They ended up spending a couple of days together and towards the end Allie decides she does not want to leave. Allie has to choose between Noah and her fiancé, Lon. The story then stops, and leads back to the nursing home. The now older, yet sickly Allie miraculously begins to remember that she was the girl from the story. A day later, Allie and Noah were found dead in the same bed holding hands. In a nutshell, loving someone is about giving, not receiving." said Nicholas Sparks. Sparks went through many tragedies as a kid. He lost both parents growing up, though Sparks saw that as an influence to use in his writing. His parents taught him many things as a child, that helped him become the writer he is today. Though Sparks and his family went through many terrifying situations, he used each event as a piece in his writing. Nicholas Sparks wrote many books over the years. • 21. Nicholas Sparks Research Paper Sparks' Style Stylistic elements are used by many authors in different ways. Nicholas Sparks has a clear style that is easy to catch on to. In The Notebook and The Best of Me by Nicholas Sparks, the author uses elements to make a comparison through the two stories. The most distinguish elements he uses are symbolism, imagery, and diction. One of the elements Nicholas Sparks uses is symbolism. Sparks includes symbolism in his stories to contribute to the thought of fate. The most significant symbol in The Notebook is Noah's letters that he writes to Allie. The letters symbolize his everlasting love for her. On page 157, Noah says, "I wrote to you for a year and I never got anything back from you, but I still had hope"(The Notebook). He wishes ... Readers can picture Allie and Noah sitting there at the lake watching what is going on around them. According to thecreviews.com, "Not only do we get to see the beginnings of a relationship, we also get to see one very advanced in years, but no less passionate for the passage of time"(The Review Club). The author is proving readers can see how the relationship grows in the story through imagery. In The Best of Me, Sparks uses imagery to give readers a better understanding of how the story plays out. Sparks says, "Dawson carved the word forever into Tuck's workbench"(The Best of Me 103). This was while Dawson and Amanda were still together as teenagers. Readers can imagine two teens carving into wood and seeing what it looks like with their initials in it. He uses another piece of imagery on page 177, "Walking beside her, she felt Dawson reach for her hand..." She could trace the years of labor engraved into his callouses. The aroma of coffee permeated the market 's air. As we were walking, I stopped after identifying some fascinating small portrait sneaking at the corner of a chair. "Wait, I need to see something," I beamed to Aika. She whipped her head and when I looked, shooting one last glance toward her, she shooed me with her right hand in the air. Then, she indicated she was going to grab some cappuccino from Starbuck located in the middle of the street. I gave her the signal and diverted my attention on the miniature. I edged slowly into the chair and I crouched down to pick the portrait, to get a better look. My eyes irresistibly draw to the crack at the center of the portrait. I put it back, with my brown eyes lit up at the price tag, who had introduced into shrinking cost. I walked away from the stall and as I rambled down the street to rejoin Aika. I saw a diary located on the sidewalk. It was bounded by brown paper, twine wrapped around it and a dusty plastic flower at the center. I took a step to pick it up on the highest shelf. Then my heart began to hammer in my ribcage, as I slid the flower on the right side, eyes widened to the name written in swirly black ink, it was my name. • 27. Comparison Of Love In The Notebook And The Time Traveler's... How do Nicholas Sparks and Audrey Niffenegger explore the ways the pursuit of an ideal love shapes human relationships? The pursuit of an ideal and perfect love and the way that this endeavor shapes human relationships is a defining connection between the characters of The Notebook and The Time Traveler's Wife, written respectively by Nicholas Sparks and Audrey Niffenegger. The suggestion of, not only desire for an ideal love but also a deep–seated need for this kind of love is something that becomes very familiar to the reader in The Notebook, as it is witnessed by the fate–like reconnection between Noah and Allie. Although their love has been interrupted and tampered with by outside parties, and in spite of this, their love endures and flourishes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The setting of the home is used throughout both texts. This evokes a sense of comfort and homeliness in the reader, therefore making them proportionally more sympathetic towards the relationships of both the central couples in question and allows them to interrelate the situations in their own lives. Noah's 1946 plantation home is one that is full of life. His home is a refuge that is laden with memories of Allie. In particular, 'a picture of [Allie's] dreams' is located in the central location of the house, 'see desire in . . . every stroke' symbolizes the ever–changing nature of their relationship, just as Allie was 'adding to it every day, changing it as our relationship changed'. Much like Allie's painting, Henry and Clare's house in Chicago mirrors their married life, marked by ups and downs. It has seen their characters and relationships develop, at times being a safe haven where the house 'envelops us, watches us, contemplates us' as though it were a guardian. The house, however, also sees Henry's frequent disappearances and Clare's endless longing, a 'love intensified by absence'. It 'watches' the many arguments, Clare's multiple miscarriages, and eventually Henry's death, morphing and altering with each new event. Through the setting of the nursing home, Sparks is able to evoke the emotions of longing, distress, and pity in the reader. It is a place of sadness and loss, with the constant reminder of an entire life, not remembered, 'she would stare at forgotten offspring, hold paintbrushes that inspired nothing, and read love letters that brought back no joy.' This loss symbolizes the unpredictable way is which a love and a relationship can change so dramatically so quickly. • 29. What Is The Purpose Of The Book Two By Nicholas Sparks Marriage is always a difficult thing; at least, everyone claims it to be. In the book Two by Two, Nicholas Sparks incorporates the difficulties of marriage into one book. Personally, I believe this is the best book Sparks has written. Nicholas Sparks hasn't always been the best of authors, but this book took me by surprise. I love the way Sparks provides characterization, to him providing a life lesson, and interprets so much emotion into this book. Sparks made the book from the Husband, Russ, perspective. I feel if he were to have put the wife's perspective into the book as well, the reading would have been more interesting to see the way she thought about the situations they encountered. Sparks made the wife seem as an evil, uncaring person; but, Sparks made the husband talk about her as if she was a saint. As the reader, I was not a fan of the wife, Vivian. But Sparks left that out from the husband. Ever after they got into an argument, the husband managed to talk about how beautiful she was, and she was still on top of the world. I found that amazing. Eventually throughout the book, Vivian, the wife, left them. As for the child, the little girl is just as innocent, yet, she gets thrown into the mix. Sparks made her seem like she was a little angel, but she was the cause of multiple arguments. But you can't pin the child, so I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 45. The Theme Of Courage In Nicholas Sparks's 'Safe Haven' "It was him, looming over them, a gun at his side. Kevin" (Sparks 309). A battered wife, Katie, runs away to a small town in North Carolina called Southport, in order to start a new life. She is a waitress at a local restaurant there, but keeps a low profile. She soon meets a widower named Alex and his children, and finally begins to feel safe. Just as Katie has moved on, her abusive husband, Kevin, a detective for the Boston Police Department, finds her after months of searching. Now, the past is no longer in the past. In his 2010 novel Safe Haven, Nicholas Sparks uses the theme of courage to demonstrate that a person has to do what is ultimately best for them and what it takes to survive, reinforcing this theme by building Katie's complex background and illustrating her fight for freedom. Katie shows courage by leaving her husband, despite how scared she was to finally do it after three years of torture. She explains her feelings and experiences to her only friend in Southport named Jo. Katie narrated her story in third–person, as if it were a friend who went through the horror, "My friend is scared all the time" (Sparks 66). Jo replied, "That's what courage is. If she weren't scared, she wouldn't need courage in the first place. I admire what she did" (Sparks 67). • 51. What Is The Similarities Between The Longest Ride And The... Imagine spending your free time sobbing to a terribly sad movie... doesn't sound too great does it? Yet somehow Nicholas Sparks seems to captivate audiences with his movies that do just that. Sparks has written countless books that have then been recreated into movies. The Notebook and The Longest Ride are just two of his popular movies. While Sparks is the author of both books, this is not the only similarity; these movies are romantic, go from present day to past, and show how much tragedy affects families. Overall The Longest Ride is about Luke, a bull rider (Scott Eastwood), and Sophia, an art major at college (Britt Robertson). Luke and Sophia meet at a rodeo, and began to fall in love. While driving home from a date, they encounter an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Each is about a couple that falls in love, and how different situations break them apart, but ultimately they come back to each other. While the movies are romances, there are also numerous romantic gestures these couples share. One of which is letter writing. In The Longest Ride, letters were shared between Ira and Ruth to communicate while Ira was at war. In The Notebook, Noah wrote Allie a letter everyday for 365 days while he was also at the war. In both of these movies the letters were one of the biggest details to the plot, along with both men going to WWII. Ultimately both couples loving each other unconditionally and eventually finding their ways back to each other through writing letters, and past the hardship of the war, is what makes them so much alike. While these movies are 10 years apart, they are much closer than that in similarity. Like mentioned earlier, while Sophia reads Ira the letters the viewer sees what the letter is about and what happened on that day during the letter. The Notebook is similar in that while Duke (Old Noah) is reading the old letters and story to Allie, she remembers what happened that day and the viewer is taken to the past. This is such a huge similarity because generally movies are all in the present, but both of these take us through a journey of both the present and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The book, later titled Message in a Bottle, was inspired by his parents' relationship. Skeptical that he'd really made it as a writer, Sparks continued to sell pharmaceuticals while he wrote the book. He finally retired from sales in February 1997, when he managed to sell Message in a Bottle to a Hollywood studio before the book was even completed (Bio Channel). This passion for loves runs wild in all of his books, from "The Notebook" with Noah and Allie, to "The Choice" with Travis and Gabby. Another theme that is shown in Sparks' writing is the theme of having someone close to you die. Not all of his books have this in the story line, in fact neither of the two books that I chose to read for this assignment had one of the main characters die. But in many of his other stories one of the main character dies. Like Allie dies in The Notebook, and Jamie ends up dying in A Walk to Remember. Even though it is extremely difficult to cope with their deaths the other main characters get through it, at their own pace of course. The main characters of his novels are seldom based on real people in Sparks' life. Having Jamie die was based on how his sister died from cancer, which is also how Jamie dies. In addition to that his mother died, and it just so happens that Allie from The Notebook dies. Even though there was a huge age gap for the ages that they died there is still common characteristics that the story, and real life have in common. We all have our own interest and opinions that can be based off of how we were raised and even how society can persuade us to believe in things. With such a diverse world, it is not uncommon to have multiple ways in which we prefer to read, write, and comprehend what we are learning. Some of us may take an interest in reading and writing, while others may completely disagree because they feel it's not meaningful to them or they don't care enough to take the time to pursue an interest in it. Personally English has always been the topic and class I dread going to. I've never tried to engage myself in the material because of my stubborn old self convincing me it's not an interest of mine. This book can be classified as realistic fiction, but is considered to be a romance novel due to the heart pulling plot line of two star–crossed lovers. My attention was caught quickly when I saw this book, because I had watched the movie with my girlfriend which motivated me to read it.
