The Catholic Church And The Teachings About The Nature Of God
The Catholic Church's Response to the Heretical Teachings about the Nature of God.
One of the major topics of discussion in the early church was about the nature of God. Some people
questioned the oneness of God and did not believe that there is one essence in all three persons of
God. Some other people did not believe that there are three persons of God. The major heresies all
fit on a scale between two opposites. These opposites consist of Monarchianism and Tritheism. The
heresies eventually led the church to establish the doctrine of Trinity in the Council of Nicaea held
in the year 325 A.D. Even though the heresies between the two extremes were appealing, the
Catholic Church rejects them and teaches the doctrine of Trinity.
On the end of one extreme is Monarchianism. Monarchianism developed "as an attempt to maintain
monotheism and refute Tritheism". . Monarchianism expands on monotheism; however, it
exaggerates the oneness of God. Monarchianism teaches the idea that God is just one person. There
are two sorts of Monarchianism. The two types of Monarchianism consist of modalistic
Monarchianism and dynamic Monarchianism. Modalistic Monarchianism is the belief that the "one
unique God manifests Himself in three different modes or stages". Modalistic monarchianists
believed that the one person of God was simply the one that is described as the Father in the trinity.
Modalistic monarchianists also believed God appeared as the Son and the Holy Spirit whenever it
fitted for

The Light Of Catholic Social Teaching Essay
The Catholic Church believes that human life and human dignity go hand in hand. A threat to one is
an equal threat to the other. The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches that, "The equality of
men rests essentially on their dignity as persons and the rights that flow from it" (1935). The Second
Vatican Council in Gaudium et Spes recognized that, "...any kind of social or cultural discrimination
in basic personal rights on the grounds of sex, race, color, social conditions, language or religion,
must be curbed and eradicated as incompatible with God's design" (29). In other words, humans
were created in God's image and from that we acquire our dignity and rights because of that holy
and sacred origin. The plan was meant for all to enjoy a basic equality and yet due to sin, the evil of
racism has been allowed to permeate humanity, thus helping to deny human dignity and human
rights. In the light of Catholic social teaching (CST), one asks the questions, in what ways does
racism help to deny mankind its rights and dignity, and what are we as the Church doing to help
combat this scourge on our communities and on society? Whether one calls it racism, xenophobia,
or prejudice, all humans have an innate tendency to pre–judge others based external characteristics.
This becomes a problem when we allow these observations to become stereotypes where all of one
particular community or group are broadly painted by these subjective observations, normally
negative. As

Compendium Of The Social Doctrine Of Church
"The right to water, as all human rights, finds its basis in human dignity and not in any kind of
quantitative assessment that considers water as a merely economic good. Without water, life is
threatened." (Compendium of the Social Doctrine of the Church §485). Catholic social teaching
articulates the understood principle in Catholicism that all members of the Church are called to
provide for, care for, and protect the dignity and well–being of all creation, especially one's fellow
man. This comes from the recognition of every individual as being unique and important in the eyes
of God, due to being made in His image and likeness. Therefore, it is pivotal that the poor
especially, and all creation, are always accounted for in the decisions that a country makes regarding
its economic and political future. Because of this, there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is a matter of a common and universal duty, that of respecting a common good,[979] destined for
all, by preventing anyone from using "with impunity the different categories of beings, whether
living or inanimate – animals, plants, the natural elements – simply as one wishes, according to
one's own economic needs" (Compendium of the Social Doctrine of the Church §466). The Catholic
Church further warns: "Man thinks that he can make arbitrary use of the earth, subjecting it without
restraint to his will, as though it did not have its own requisites and a prior God–given purpose,
which man can indeed develop but must not betray" (Compendium of the Social Doctrine of the
Church §460). If a private company's motive, once given control to a community's or nations water,
is only profit, then earth's natural water sources are at risk. Unless there is strict regulation, those

will face greater stress if profit–driven corporations are enabled due to private water

La Casa De Amistad
Focusing on immigration rights for people of Latin descent I chose La Casa de Amistad. This
organization founded in 1973 by Father John Phalen strives to create a grounded community in
South Bend. Due to their passion and consistent effort to bring forth opportunity and development
for the community it is no surprise that they have done well throughout the years in the vast amount
of services they offer. However what I shall be focusing on is their Immigration Legal Services
program and how it goes hand in hand with the Catholic Social Teaching principle of participation.
The mission at La Casa de Amistad is to foster inclusion and integration by strengthening the
individuals to create an active community which invests in the nation. With their ... Show more

That in itself and each person's contribution with drinks, food, and their eagerness to share
demonstrated that even before becoming citizens La Casa de Amistad had already created the sense
of community. Each time I go to see them I am always welcomed with opened arms and a snack,
and it creates a feeling of warmth within me. For seeing these vital pillars in our nation strive to be
recognized as fellow citizens for the toil and struggle that they go through day in and day out to
create a better nation is beautiful. They not only achieve that but they have a community that cares
and is supportive of them who wishes to see them have the ability to finally get the chance to vote
and have their voices recognized for they are part of our nation and should be treated with dignity
and respect. As I spoke with Nancy I was amazed at the results that they have had with this program
since it began ten years ago, for they have had a one–hundred percent pass rate of the naturalization
exam, with over 400 people from 28 nations. Based on the effectiveness I don't have anything to see
in regards to criticisms for they have done all to create a truly global community of individuals by
giving them the resources needed to be part of all spheres in our society. Their persistence to help

The Catholic Social Teaching Principles are a tool to achieve the common good. In the past and in
today's world the common good is short of being what is good for the whole world and has become
what is good for a single society. The Cherokee Indians face the common good of the United States'
culture being forced on to them. Due to this they have lost what their culture was about, along with
hundreds of lives. We can see how the Catholic Social Teaching Principles a line with their past
ways, and how their institutes and society have changed over time in the modern society, while
adapting a new meaning to these principles.
The first Catholic principle to be discussed is, "Life and Dignity of the Human Person." This simply
means "that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many of the speakers made it clear that children that had parents in the boarding schools were
terribly abused. These children turn into adults and did not know how to display love, and have
anger issues. This in turn is taken out on their kids and then their kids making a chain of abuse
within the generations. Not knowing how to deal with the abuse, and how to let go the abused turn
to alcohol or drugs to deal with the emotion and trauma that come from it, and become addicted.
Alcohol and drugs are also the number one way to cope for the Cherokee who have grown up with
no identity too. They know their name but not who they are. They belong to a culture that is being
torn down, and being forced into the United States' culture. For a while it was even shameful to be a
Cherokee and some generations could not eve tell others who they were in fear for their own and
their family's safety.
The health–care institutes on the reserve reach out and help the Eastern Band of Cherokee's deal
with their identity loss, their trauma, to help them cope, heal, remember and forgive. To make sure
that the treatment is convenient for everyone they have a rehab center, and hospital right on the
reserve. So that the individuals that need help can receive it and continue to contribute to and be a
part of the society.

Five Aspects Of The Nine Catholic Social Thought Principles
The Nine Catholic Social Thought Principles The way of life can be broken down into nine
principles govern by the Catholic Social Thought (CST), covering all five aspects of humanity. The
aspects include; social, spiritual, personal, economic and political, all five create a holistic approach
to optimize a sense of humanity for self and the community. The nine principles of CST are as
follows: Dignity of the Human person The first and most important principle is dignity of the human
person as it empowers a foundation to the other eight principles. With respects to the catholic
perspective "God created mankind in his own image" (genesis 1:27) meaning everyone in an idea
world should have the same significances and respectability (Byron, 1998). Regardless of any
identifying factors, age, intelligence or economic status no one should be above or below anyone,
society should be in harmony and dignifying every human. A way to achieve this is by using
Immanuel Kant's philosophy "Always treat people as ends in themselves, never as means to an end"
(Kant, Heath & Schneewind, 2001). Without dignity there isn't much of humanity, as we will be all
"means", used and maltreated. Common Good Common good falls into the first of the great
commandments, "Love thy neighbour as thyself" (Mark 22:38). Breaking down this commandment
expresses the golden rule conveyed by Hugh Mckay in he's book, 'The Good Life, what makes life
worth living" (Australian Catholic University, 2017a). The golden rule allows the community to
prosper as it works to support everyone, little pieces of kindness and charity to build a masterpiece
called humankind. With building the masterpiece it lets up a brighter and greater future for
generations to come. Subsidiarity Subsidiarity ensures a fair and just world, giving a voice to
important issues, ideas and threats that the impacted people face in their lives. By giving subsidiarity
to the general public it will allow the first principle of the CST, as it is securing human rights with
specific legislation tailored to that community (Carozza, 2003. Pg.38–40). Having decision making
proximal to the impacted people promotes community flourishment. Subsidiarity can be compressed
into a niche

Catholic Teachings On Abortion Persuasive Speech
Welcome back to todays episode of Compass in my Parent Living Room tonight we will be
investigating abortion in Australian society, and how this clashes with the teachings of the Catholic
faith. We will be joined later by Marty, Catholic Father, and he will be providing an insight into the
Catholic opinion on abortion. Lets start's the Program!!
The action of receiving an abortion is heavily condemned within the Catholic Faith. Its believed that
from conception to natural death all life is sacred and the deliberate killing of an unborn human is
morally wrong. Within contemporary Australian society, this belief validity, as many states begin to
pass legislation allowing women to legally to obtain an abortion.
Abortion is one of the most frequently discussed ethical issues inside the catholic faith. The morals
given by the Church clearly prohibit all uses of contraception to halt a pregnancy. The major ethic
which the church teaches is that the process of delivering a child on this planet involves the creative
action of God, therefore it is sacred from the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So Marty What do you believe the are he Catholic teachings on abortion?
Marty – First of all when we talk about the church we're really talking about the Vatican or papal
documents, secondly what we are talking about is the Catholic Church of Australia which is
different to the other Catholic Church's, and thirdly the local church which is here in Maroochydore.
The teaching is that all life is sacred and protected and so the Church tells us that we shouldn't be
killing the fetus.
It is evident, that both the Catholic teachings and natural law viciously oppose the termination of a
pregnancy by the use a method of contraception, and especially abortion. Nonetheless, there are
some exceptions within the Catholic Faith that, if applied correctly, can overrule the teachings and
allow women to receive an

The Catholic Teaching On Chastity
The Catholic Teaching of Chastity:
Vow of Chastity
Religion is one of the most studied things in history due to its connection with our daily lives, and
how people choose to live. Catholics have a set of rules, sacraments, and teachings that are in place
to attain eternal life in the Kingdom of God. Vows and vocations go hand in hand with the Catholic
teaching, most Catholics will take a vow of chastity as a way to commit themselves to God or to
fulfill their vocation and complete all seven sacraments in life by living the life Jesus taught us.
Chastity is seen as a virtue that "excludes or moderates the indulgence of the sexual appetite," also
as a "successful integration of sexuality within the person and thus the inner unity of man in his ...

Chastity is a gift from God that teaches humans that strengthens the relationship between the mind
and body. The concupiscence that all humans possess will attempt to test the faith and vow that a
chaste person has promised to God to lead to a road of infidelity and the corruption of the mind.

Catholic Social Teaching Essay
Three important Catholic Social Teachings for us to take into account when considering Caritas'
actions in the Pacific are Stewardship of Creation, Preferential Option for the Poor and Subsidiarity.
Stewardship is a Catholic Social Teaching which instructs us that we the people have a
responsibility to maintain and take care of the environmental resources, for we are the guardians of
the land, not the true owners. Stewardship is us, God's Creation, having a responsibility to care for
the gifts God has given us, with an emphasis on the environment as disregarding it and not taking
care of it will have detrimental effects on generations to come. This Catholic Social Teaching is
interlinked with the Maori view of Kaitiakitanga, that we are guardians and stewards of the land and
are holding it for future generations to come. Because as in the Maori proverb:

We need to share the water and food from this earth with the whole human family." (Social Justice

scripture and is shown in Genesis 2:15, 'Then the Lord God took the man and put him into the
Garden of Eden to cultivate it and keep it' (Genesis 2:15). In this, we can see how Catholics are
called to look after the land by 'cultivating' it in the best way so that we may 'keep' it, just as it is in
the scripture. The scripture is telling us that God has entrusted us, his creation, to the task of looking
after his creation with harmony and development, protecting it from harm. The idea of we the
people having the responsibility to look after God's creation for all of creation, is an idea that Pope
Francis reflects on in his Laudato Si #68 when he says "This responsibility for God's earth means
that human beings, endowed with intelligence, must respect the laws of nature and the delicate
equilibria existing between the creature of the

Capitalism And Catholic Social Teaching
Over the 20th century, numerous conflicts and wars were fought over which economic system is
better––capitalism or communism . To summarize, capitalism encourages a 'free market,' where
competition between businesses drives the market. In communist societies, the government is in
control of private property and means of production. These viewpoints held on the economy's days
since Cory do not necessarily match up with Catholic Social Doctrine, which disagrees with the
moral relativism of Unregulated capitalism. It also disagrees with the religious–suppression
characterizing communist Governments, as well as the communist stance on property as something
that should be collective. This suggests Catholic Social Teaching is unique in the context ... Show

Ideally, a communist government values the rights of the impoverished, workers and others. Both
Catholic Socialist Teachings and communism, as envisioned by Marx and Engels, suggest a more
collectivist approach to society by comparison to what is advocated for by capitalism, which placed
less emphasis on society's collective. One particular element of communist teachings/government is
the disdain for religion within the ideology. Karl Marx himself was known to have a negative view
of organized religion, and this is expressed within his writings. To Marx, religion was a means of
suppressing the lower classes, and placating them so that they would hot be hostile towards the
rulers of European governments and industrial tycoons of the time. Marx's disdain for organized
religion went on to affect cultures of societies with communist governments. For example, in
Russia, the revolution and the following rise of the Soviets led to decreased influence of the Russian
Orthodox Church, as the state was officially atheist. The attitude towards religion in communist
thought has an obvious conflict with the principles of Catholicism, when this difference in religious
belief (or lack thereof) is considered. Another area where Catholic Social Ethics differ

My Experience Of Volunteering At A Local Nursing Home
I signed up to volunteer at a local nursing home. Because my father works there, I have been there
many times before. However, volunteering there was very new to me.
I had to understand the circumstances in which people were in and how interact with residents
respectfully and compassionately which provided opportunities for personal growth by practicing
integrity, justice and good stewardship. Though I was a bit hesitant, my experience has been very
positive. Just being a volunteer without any related experience or skills, I was unqualified to help
and many ways. The few menial tasks that I was able to do seemed to be met with much enthusiasm
and appreciation. Simply helping someone to their seat bringing them a cup of tea or ... Show more

Throughout their history, their mission was always to provide quality care with respect and dignity
to the elderly.
I had my moments of success and happiness when I was able to help someone along and see how
appreciative they were. There were also times that were saddening and uncomfortable. When
visiting rooms, I did encounter people who were losing grip on their mental and physical abilities. I
felt a heaviness because even though they were taken care of, there wasn't that could be done to
make them better. It was inspiring seeing nurses and family members continuing to care for them
and keep dignity.
I do believe my action had an impact on the residents. When assisting with activities for the
residents, we were able to spend less time setting up–less time residents needed to just sit and wait
for the activity to being. The impact made was I was able to get services to the residents (who can
and do get impatient when waiting to play bingo.) I also think that simple gestures of kindness were
enough to brighten someone's day which in and of itself makes it worthwhile.
From this understanding, we as a people have a responsibility to unite in the pursuit of justice in
order to make all voices heard and recognize those who are in the greatest need. Practice of these
teachings would undoubtedly promote the common good. When seeking out suffering and seeing to
it that injustice is overcome

Catholic Social Teaching Of Human Dignity In Nursing
The guiding principles of Catholic Social Teaching have the overarching, dominating theme of
human dignity (Condit, 2016, p. 371). The focus is, that human beings were formed in God's image
and in return, humanities purpose is to follow in God's footsteps and portray the same love and
grace (Coleman, 2008) (Condit, 2016, p. 371). Consequently, this affects how human beings interact
with each other, requiring commitment, to look after, encourage, maintain and promote each other
(Coleman, 2008) (Herbert, 2016, p. 7). One way to apply, this Catholic Social Teaching of human
dignity, is to understand the nurse's relationship with the patient. Nurses need to approach the patient
with respect and maintain the person's privacy, acknowledging that they are a fellow human being,
with their own personal characteristics and beliefs (Condit, 2016, p. 371) (Walsh & Kowanko, 2002,

The message of Jesus Christ and the Church is reflected though the eight Catholic Social Teaching
principles. The purpose of the eight principles is to integrate faith and influence our relationship
with God. The primary principle is the life and dignity of the human person. The first Catholic
Social Teaching affirms that the children of God is sacred and valuable from the time of conception
until death. For instance, unborn children, homeless people, and students are all equal in dignity.
Additionally, the Catholic Church defends the dignity of each person, since God created people to
love and serve him. Overall, the first Catholic Social Teaching principle can be applied to my four

Liberal Arts And Conservative Arts Essay

HU 2651: Liberal Arts Core Seminar
Dr. Brown
Liberal arts prepare diligent students for success by providing them opportunities to learn about
themselves and about others around them. The liberal arts shape students' perspective making them
become more diverse in how they view the world. It teaches students qualitative thought and
quantitative thought and how those two types of thought come together to form conclusions and
effective decisions. Not only does the liberal arts require students to think critically, but it also
creates students who know how to write and speak efficiently. A student who know how to talk to
people and knows how to explain their thought process will eventually become leaders and great
citizens for society. The liberal arts create student who can think for themselves. With courses that
encourage students to think, a liberal arts education generates students who will have unique
perspectives and opinions on many subjects. The liberal arts prepare students to generate ideas that
will continue to facilitate discussions in and outside of school. Liberal arts prepare a student to think
about their thought process. With quantitative information and qualitative information, students can

Immigration
Immigration is a topic that has been in the news often due to the most recent Presidential election.
However, the idea of immigration is one that has existed since the Old Testament with stories of
refugees fleeing from oppression. Immigration is an ideal that has remained a topic of discussion for
years due to the positives and negatives of it. While immigration may have some negatives, it is my
view that immigration is a necessity for the United States because of its roots in Catholic social
teaching, effects on economy, and the need for basic rights of individuals to obtain a better life.
When dealing with immigration one must not just view it as an economic factor but must understand

The Catholic bishops further their explanation of the freedom to move lands when they reference
that ownership or duration have no privilege in regard to who's land is who's. The Bishops state that,
the native does not have superior rights over the immigrant. Before God all are equal; the earth was
given by God to all. When a person cannot achieve a meaningful life in his or her own land, that
person has the right to move (Catholic Bishops).
The next principle touched upon is the right of a country to regulate its boarders and control
immigration. This principle is grounded in the belief that people have the right to move but no
country is bound by anything to accept those that want to resettle there. This principle also brings to
light the reasons for immigrants fleeing which is normally for somber reasons as they are fleeing
from an unsafe place. This illustrates that many immigrants are coming from a bad situation which
is not looked highly upon in Catholic social teaching as it goes against the common good to have
"bad areas". The Catholic Bishops comment on the idea of immigration as a whole explaining that,
"catholic social teaching is realistic: While people have the right to move, no country has the duty to
receive so many immigrants that its social and economic life are jeopardized". The final principle
brings together principles one and two, which tend to contradict one another. Principle three states
that a country must regulate it's borders with

The Teaching of the Roman Catholic Church and Their Influence on People's Views on Abortion
The R.C Church teaches that all human life is sacred. The word sacred means devoted or help
especially acceptable to a deity. Both the old and new testaments teach that human life is sacred and
should not be terminated. God created life in his image and each one of us is like him. To kill a
human being is like killing a part of god and this has greatly influenced the teachings of the R.C
Church about abortion.

The R.C Church states in the declaration on procured abortion 1974 that respect for human life is
not just the Christian duty ''respect for life is integral to the stability of the human race''. The church
teaches ''… never under any excuse may abortion be resorted to either by family or by the political
authority as means of regulating birth''
Gaudium et spes (the document of Vatican II) states ''life must be protected with the utmost care
from the moment of conception; abortion and infanticide are abominable crimes.
The churches teachings are clear; ' ' abortion is the direct and intentional killing of an unborn child''.
From the moment of conception a potential human being exists this sacredness of life is developed
by the church in her documents Humanae Vitae by Paul VI and Familiaris Consortio. It is clear from
the above teachings which originates in the pages of both the old and new testaments that the foetus

The Grapes of Wrath written by John Steinbeck. Mama a woman who holds her family together and
is constantly showing her strengths. Even Pa noticed the authority that Mama showed. She is an

Catholic Social Justice Teachings, which include: the life and dignity of the human person; call to
family, community, and participation; rights and responsibilities; option for the poor and vulnerable;
the dignity of work and the rights for workers; solidarity; and care for God's creation. A person who

The Catholic Church's Teaching on Contraception
Tafadzwa Kushamba: Contraception
This week marks the forty–sixth anniversary of Pope Paul VI's encyclical Humanae Vitae, a
document which clarified the Church's moral teaching on contraception. What is contraception?
Contraception is, "any action which either before, at the moment of, or after sexual intercourse, is
specifically intended to prevent procreation whether as an end or as a means" (Humanae Vitae 14).
There are various methods of contraception that temporarily or permanently sterilize a couple, thus
making it impossible to have children. Contraception destroys the union and love between couples.
In this we find that contraception violates God's plan of procreation. Contraceptives go against the
gift of fertility by treating pregnancy as a disease. The issue of contraception has drawn worldwide
attention with people divided on whether it is morally permissible to use any form of contraception.
Society views contraception as a development in the modern world that helps in the regulation of
birth. We find that many Catholics don't understand this issue and the Church's teaching on
contraception has been misunderstood. The Church makes it clear through Humane Vitae that any
use of contraception is morally wrong, for it violates the dignity of marriage and God's plan of
procreation. It is our understanding that marriage is a sacrament of love between two people,
instituted by God, for the whole purpose of continuing his plan of creation. Marriage is the
foundation of

Every person is unique in what they do, how they think, and above all, what they believe in. This
fascinating diversity is attributed to several social factors, taking many forms, with the perhaps most
influential being theology. Religion plays a significant role in guiding the individuals of the world to
form a moral conscious aimed at helping choose what is perceived to be "right." For example, the
Catholic faith in particular releases numerous documents rooted in scripture to help guide and

found in media that highlights social conflicts of many eras. Weather respected or not, several of
these social teachings can be observed in the 2011 film, The Help. One of the most prominent
principles of the Catholic social teachings that I observed in this film was the dignity of the work
and rights of workers, which requires respect for the work and the worker and that this respect will
help improve the economy as well as society as a whole. The viewers are first introduced to a world
absent of this particular principle when Skeeter attends a job interview at the Jackson Journal. As
Mr. Blackly, the Jackson Journal's chief editor, interviews Skeeter, her lists of accomplishments and
experience are quickly undermined by Mr. Blackly's sexism and stereotyping. This is confirmed
when he abruptly asks Skeeter, "Do you clean?" and offers her to write the content of a small
domestic cleaning column (). After proving she is more than able to conduct the work of men,
Skeeter is denied the opportunity and is given a " woman friendly topic" to write about, which

The Key Teachings From The Catholic Church
One of the key teachings from the Catholic Church is that all human life is sacred. We know this
because we are all created in the image and likeness of God. In Genesis 1:26–27 it reveals, "Then
God said, 'Let us make man in our image, in our likeness' ... So God created man in his own image,
in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them". This means that we are what
we are because of God, we are spiritual because God is spirit: "The Spirit of God was hovering over
the waters" (Genesis 1:2)This is one of the many examples of how we are all created in the image of
God. We are all created to have the potential to express these godlike capacities distinctively
because God has made us all unique. As we are created in the image and likeness of God we reflect
God's sacredness. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A teaching from the catholic church is that life is a gift from God and to respect him and to show our
appreciation we should live life to the fullest and be thankful for this great gift and to not take it for
granted. Even though we are all made in the image and likeness of God, we are not all the same
because we are all different and unique with different gifts for us to share. God has called on us to
use our gifts to make the world a better place and to share our gifts with each other and to show our

Caritas: Catholic Social Teaching
The term mission is used by many organisation and follow in the footsteps of Jesus. This is seen in
religious groups and organisation
Mission is a term used by many people, and can have many different meanings. However, in
Catholic tradition, a mission is a way of seeking justice. A journey or deed is being done to achieve
some sort of religious fulfilment or benefit. Caritas is an example of a Justice seeking mission, as
they are an organisation. They have hard working volunteers to turn a good deed, in this case a
donation; into something of benefit for the poor. A powerful example of catholic mission is Jesus',
which was to simply aid the unfortunate. Luke 19:10 "The son of man came to seek and save the

Catholic Social Teaching is the body of doctrine created as a result of the Catholic Church to address
Social Justice. The concept was first developed in the nineteenth century, when Pope Leo XIII's
encyclical of 1891 Rerum Novarum Which outlined the current issues with capitalism and
socialism, which accurately represents the qualities of CST, in particular Dignity of The Human
Person and The Common Good, which accurately represent the attitudes Catholic Social Teaching
displays towards the disadvantaged. We can also link these traits to Caritas' mission, to aid the poor.
Caritas is a worldwide organisation that relies on donation (incorporating 'The Common Good') to
supply third–world countries with resources and supplies, and usually teach them how to become
self–sustained. Caritas was founded in 1965 as a project of the United Nations in response to global
health needs and malnutrition. It was originally known as Project Compassion, and became an
extremely successful 'self–help' campaign. An example of Caritas' work is their work in Central
Africa, where they supply the almost 3 million people in need with shelter food and peace building

Fourth Catholic Social Teaching Essay
The Catholic Social Teachings are understood within the context of the entirety of faith. The fourth
Catholic Social Teaching principle is the option for the poor and vulnerable. According to this
principle, Christians are called to care and protect those who are poor and vulnerable due to the

Individuals are required to eliminate sinful inequalities that prevent people from meeting their basic

Social Justice And Government By Karl Marx
Social Justice and Government
The view of social justice in today's society may be different depending on who you are, what
religion you come from, or even the culture in which you were raised. According to the Catholic
Church and its social teachings, the view of social justice is talked about in the Catechism of the
Catholic Church. It is viewed as the condition that allows individuals and associations to gain what
is their due, according to the Catechism of the Catholic Church's stance on social justice. Since
individuals are already created equally through God, therefore the perfect form of social justice is an
environment where the individual is able to reach their full human potential. The "Industrial
Revolution" that started in the 1780's in Great Britain had many effects, but they were not fully felt
until the 1830's or 1840's. The works done by Karl Marx talks about how the classless system was
not the ideal form of government in Europe. Karl Marx formed and developed the modern day
popular form of "social justice" known as Marxism or socialism. Marx's problem with the struggles
of social justice and society during his time era were that he could not accept the form of politics
such as the classless system at that time and on the rebound he introduced his idealism. Marx also
unified the theory of social justice with the practical beliefs that human activity is key. Marx's
approach to social justice is based on human relations as free from exploitation,

Catholic Social Education : The Three Principles Of...
The principles of Catholic Social Teaching have been used as a guide to making responses to social
problems ever since the principles were developed in 1891. The following three principles are the
most relevant to the refugee crisis.
1. Human Dignity
All Humans were created in the image of God. Human dignity is the honour, importance, respect
and worth that belongs every person simply because they are human. In addition, it is also the status
that belongs to each person as we are made in the image of God. This dignity grants all inalienable,
political, legal, social and economic rights and is a key foundation in Catholic ethics. The denial of
refugees into a country is taking away their dignity. They no longer have control over their life or
choices. On their journey they must live in a world in which their dignity is striped away and they
can no longer live as human beings. Forced to sleep on the streets, they are alone, on the move
without physical security or legal protection, on the move in a world in which their rights as human
beings are not recognized. They must travel on foot, by bus, and by sea, entrusting their lives to
smugglers and depending only on the kindness of strangers. "The Church offers her love and
assistance to all refugees without distinction as to religion or race, respecting in each of them the
inalienable dignity of the human person created in the image of God (cf. Gn 1:27)." When human
dignity is violated the church must intervene (2422–2423)

Martin Luther King Principles Essay
"Principles prompt activity, impel motion, direct choices. A principled person always has a place to
stand, knows where he or she is coming from and likely to end up. Principles always lead the person
who possesses them somewhere, for some purpose, to do something (Byron)." Principles serve as
the foundation for a system or belief. To most people, it makes sense that a religion would have a set
of principle beliefs; much less often, however, are the principles of an individual acknowledged
Martin Luther King Jr. was a prime example of an individual whose strong principle foundation
gave him the means to stand up for his beliefs. Within King's writing, "Letter from Birmingham
Jail," he makes a blanket claim of his stance by stating, "I am in Birmingham because injustice is
here. Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere." Simply put, King stands for justice. His
principle belief that every person – no matter their race – deserve equal access to means propels him
to take action. He realized that there were consequences for his belief – particularly jail. Despite
knowing this was where he would undoubtedly end up, he stood behind his belief that humans' of all
races deserved to feel dignified and accepted in society, as well as have equal opportunities for voice
and action (involvement in various outlets).
Having discussed King's general set of principle beliefs, one can now compare them with those of

Principles of Catholic Social Thought
Catholic social teaching (CST) or thought are belief or set of belief that is taught or developed by a

expresses human dignity as a foundation for the common good in our society to flourish together as
one (Australian Catholic Social Justice Council, 2016). Therefore, this wiki page will explain and

Therefore, the individual's responsibility is to take care of the earth they live in. for instance, taking
care of family and friend and others with dignity is a way to show sign of our respect for the god,
who created the earth and the human (Catholic Charities, 2016).
Promotion of Peace
Most commonly heard catholic teaching is about the peace, concept that is action orientated and
about loving others (Catholic Charities, 2016). Promotion of peace involves peace and mutual
respects between people and the nations across the world (Catholic Charities, 2016). Therefore,
catholic teachings have a close relationship between peace and justice. When individuals and
nations keep the peace, society will flourish.
Participation
All individuals have a right to participate in the education, politic, economy and cultural life of
society (Catholic Charities, 2016). It is a fundamental demand of justice system and the requirement
for a human dignity that is assured for everyone in society to participate in the community (Catholic
Charities, 2016). Moreover, it is wrong for someone or group of people to be excluded from
participating social activities, treated unfairly or not be able to participate in society (Catholic
Charities, 2016). When every individual participates in society, it will flourish.

1891, specifically the social conditions of people, resulting from industrialisation and the church's
Christological role in declaring human dignity in terms of God's plan for mankind. I will set out the
historical position in Britain in this late Victorian era within the context of European radical political
upheaval, as part of the need for reform and a response from the Church. These issues will be
compared with the encyclical one hundred years later, to analyse the development of policy in1891

It was a paternalistic model which depended upon the state safeguarding rights, but also a system of
distributive justice administered by the state. The principle of private property was central to this
belief. His ideas stemmed from Aquinas and the belief in natural, God given law. His mind was
influenced by the reality of dealing with socialism in the loss of the Papal States and the threat that
supporting socialist causes would automatically lead to revolution and anti–church aggression. He
argued against the Marxist philosophy, claiming it was the individual's right, rather than the state, to
own property, thus supporting families in their religious duties. The encyclical was issued less than
forty years after Pius IX's Syllabus of Errors which declared: 'It is an error to believe that the Roman
pontiff can or should reconcile himself to, and agree with progress, liberalism, and modern
civilizations.' Leo XIII regarded the ius sanctum of property as something implicit in the traditional
theory of Thomistic theology, without conceding a 'liberal' doctrine of the state. Secondly his
approval of societies being set up with a common interest as long as they did not oppose the Church,
gave a lasting legacy to this day, for the growth of the modern trade union movement. The medieval
concept of craft guilds could be transformed to friendly societies, within a Christian framework.

The Catholic Social Teaching is centered on the aspect of "building a just society and living lives of
holiness amidst the challenges of modern society". In building a community, one must take into
consideration multiple key components. The first component is acknowledging the life and dignity
of the human person. The Catholic Church recognizes and teaches that human life is sacred and the
dignity of each individual is the bases of a moral ideal for a society. The second component of
Catholic Social Teaching is the call to family, community, and participation. This teaching is

who are marginalized in our society. The next component deals with the dignity of work and the
rights of the workers, which is how humans give back to the society and have control in how they
participate in God's creation. Solidarity is the next component and it talks about loving our
neighbors in the face of conflict. The final component for Catholic Social Teaching is the care for
God's creation in which we protect the people and the planet by living in stewardship for creation.

Social Justice Issues Take Place At Various Levels :...
Social justice issues take place at various levels: global, national, regional, and local. The article,
"The racist NYPD captain who ruined my career for not targeting enough blacks and Hispanics got
promoted," surfaces a prevalent social justice issue of racism. Racism is holding prejudices on the
basis of the race. The issue of racism is complex one because of its far–reaching effects and
implications. It makes people feel inferior, creates a gap between the people of the society. The
members of racial groups that are discriminated against face unequal access and opportunities. It is
harder for them to find well–paying jobs or live in good neighborhoods. Racism exists not only in
employment but also in law enforcement. It "concerns the invidious use of race or ethnicity as a
criterion in conducting stops, searches and other law enforcement investigative procedures" (The
Reality of Racial Profiling). This news article buttress this statement as it states that the white men
were not arrested for the same crimes that the black men were arrested for. Despite the passage of
numerous laws to prohibit racism, it till persists. For instance, the Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of
1964 (Title VII), prohibits employment discrimination based on race. Yet, the close scrutiny shows
that the black Americans are less likely to get that job.
Racism has always existed in the society and has a negative connotation to it. The repugnant nature
of racism can be analyzed by employing

that fostered community and equality for people who were suffering under the economic strains of
the 30s and other societal injustices, such as racism. During her time she was able to set up a

asking we stop engaging with other countries in trade and instead "live at home" this concept is tied
to the Catholic social teaching that unjust economies creates injustice (Evangelii Gaudium). The
idea is that with trade amongst other countries benefitting the upper classes and not creating jobs or
other opportunities for impoverished populations the injustice pervades and creates a space for more

Joan Of Arc Argument
Joan of Arc was a young woman who came from very humble roots, and eventually overcame these
roots through God in order to fight for war torn France. In Donald Spoto's, Joan: The Mysterious
Life of the Heretic Who Became a Saint, Joan is portrayed as having many visions from God telling
her what to do, and eventually following them which began to prove France wrong about women in
battle. After many victorious battles, she was captured, locked up in a cell and held for ransom until
Cauchon, who was trying to eliminate the king in power in France and gain the bishop position at
Rouen, bought Joan, and charged her for being a heretic. She was found guilty on these charges and
burned at the stake, all with unbroken faith. Joan's conviction ... Show more content on

These principles can most likely be seen present day through the Principles of Catholic Social
Teaching, which many who read about Joan of Arc would argue were nonexistent at this time due to
the atrocities that were committed against her–this is wrong. The website for the United States
Conference of Catholic Bishops states that, "God reveals himself to us as one who is not alone, but
rather as one who is relational, one who is Trinity" ("Catholic Social Teaching"). I believe this is
where the teachings relate to Joan because throughout her life, God is constantly showing her that
she is not alone by guiding her through each battle that she faces. Her story of everlasting faith
promotes the teachings and gives true backing to them that would otherwise be nonexistent. I
believe that it is very anachronistic to view modern social teachings and try to apply them to
medieval times because society and cultural norms were so different. To try to apply these teachings
to medieval times would be like giving Joan of Arc an iPhone and telling her to make a call, she
would have no idea what those words even meant or the context in which you used them, and the
same is for the teachings. The ideas of dignity and respect have changed so much over the years that
medieval people would be very surprised at the kinds of rights, and the ideas that religious society
has today, especially considering that not everyone today is religious. I believe these ideas would
not even have really been introduced to them, especially in such mass amounts of

Teachings of Catholics About Abortion Essay
Teachings of Catholics About Abortion
Catholics today agree that to directly end the life of a foetus in the womb is a serious moral sin.
Genesis tells us "Life begins at conception". This would suggest that from the moment of
conception, the foetus is a human and has rights to life. "You shall not murder" Exodus 20:13
informs us that even if the child is in the womb it still has a life and having an abortion is seen as
killing someone.
"Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you." Jeremiah 1:5, suggests that God knows the soul of
every foetus, and therefore proves that the fertilised egg is a human life. Catholics believe that God's
spirit lives in every person, even in an unborn child ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This means that as soon as the egg is fertilized it is seen as a new life. Therefore, it would be true to
say that Catholics are against abortion since "Thou shall not kill" is one of the commandments. By
having an abortion a life is destroyed. This is known as murder.
The only time Catholics accept, but not necessarily agree with abortion, is when the mother is in
great danger, and is likely to die if the pregnancy continues. However, this does not cover the issue
of when a woman has been raped. Catholics believe that is it wrong to kill a child for the wrong
doings of the father and for that reason should not be aborted.
Overall, the killing of a child is wrong, no matter whether it is in a womb or not. As a Catholic, we
would see that having an abortion is a form of murder and therefore a moral sin.
AO3 Abortion is never justified. Discuss.
Abortion is an issue which many people have strong feelings about. But should the foetus have
equal rights to the mother?
Some people may feel that if a mother was carrying an unwanted child, they should not be forced to
keep the child just because of religious beliefs. She is the one that would have to carry the child for
9 months, so should have every option open to her.
The life of the mother is more important than the foetus if she is in real danger. The baby would not

Social doctrine of the church as a social instrument of the new evangelization
Three terms are present in the title of this issue: two explicit (social doctrine of the church and new

connecting it with the evangelization itself; the relationship between the church's social doctrine and
the new evangelization comes through the evangelization.
The first thing it's the evangelization, the most original, and that goes back to the origins of the

Transubstantiation : The Catholic Teaching Of The Eucharist
Transubstantiation Transubstantiation is the Catholic teaching of the Eucharist. The Catholic
teaching is that after a priest blesses the bread and wine sacrament, they become the actual body and
blood of Christ. It is taught the bread and wine retain their physical appearance, but their essence
changes. The action is performed before the congregation during a Church service. The Reformation
view is against this, saying the bread and wine are merely a metaphor.
Trinity The Trinity is the theological idea that The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit exist as
three persons under one Godhead. All three are God, but are all three different from each other. Each
one is equally holy and have been in existence for all of eternity. The idea was formulated during the
fourth century at the councils of Nicaea and Constantinople. The evidence for the Trinity can be
found in the Bible, but is never clearly stated.
Vatican II Vatican II was started in October 1952 by Pope John XXIII, and concluded in December
1965 under Pope Paul IV. The goal of the council was to build up and renew the Catholic Church.
Over four meetings, representatives from many different churches, not just Catholics, met to discuss
the meaning and role of the Church in the its members. Discussions also encouraged the interfaith
dialog with non–Catholics. Vatican II modernized the Church, making its teaching more applicable

What Would Jesus Do
What would Jesus do in regards to the social justice issue of immigration? Would he give
immigrants a fair and unbiased opportunity in a new country, or would he turn his back towards
these hopeful people? The Catholic Church teaches us that Jesus would support immigrants, live by
the Catholic Social Justice Themes and the Christian Feminist model of Justice, and give these
people a fighting chance in a new country. These ideologies represent hope, a more promising future
for immigration, and a change in how we see one another.
The two Catholic Social Justice themes that relate best to the issue of immigration are the themes of
global solidarity and rights and responsibilities.
Global solidarity is an important aspect of social life because it teaches us that people are an
interdependent race and that we all fit together into a larger and more unified community. We are all
one people, despite our many racial, economic, national, ideological, and religious differences. The
Catholic Social Teaching of global solidarity tells us that we are all brothers and sisters and that we
must take it upon ourselves to care for one another. We as humans are inherently social beings, so it
is biologically important for us to live together in communion. We find the most success and are the
most happy when we come together and exist as one, proving how important it is for immigrants to

The Persuasive Essay : The Destruction Of Coral Reefs
If people do not start to act soon, hundreds of species around the world will be extinct by the year
2050. Healthy coral reefs mean healthy oceans, and healthy oceans mean a healthier earth. Water
covers 70% of the earth's surface and less than 1% of that is coral reefs. Without coral reefs, water is
dirtier and wildlife is less abundant. Coral reefs are also important to the development of new
medicines. Without coral reefs, scientists might never find a cure for diseases like Cancer, and
Alzheimer's. A Greek goddess that could protect coral reefs would be very beneficial because
without the reefs, there would be many problems. This goddess would protect the reefs around the
world and hurt people who were threatening the safety of them. The destruction of coral reefs is
such a devastating issue because the reefs help to give animals homes, who have had their habitats
destroyed and limit the furthering of medical research. Society today needs a goddess to protect the
coral reefs for many reasons. Without doing something to save the reefs, the National Coral Reef
Foundation says that, "the reefs will be completely gone by 2050 if action is not taken, and there
will be many consequences." Coral reefs help to regulate the acidity in water and if they are gone,
then the water will become too acidic and sea life will begin to die off. If too much sea life dies off,
then the fishing industry will crash and humans will lose a valuable market and food source. In
addition, if the water temperature keeps rising, the reefs will enter a process called bleaching.
Bleaching is the process in which the coral lets out their algae to try to cool down the water to
survive. In turn, the coral turns grayish–white and is unable to regulate the acidity in the water,
which has severe consequences. 1 billion people in Asia depend on the coral reefs for a food/money

made from this is that life can be classified as the ultimate good, for without life, individuals would
not be able to experience any other goods (Floyd). This position varies slightly from Aristotle, who
considered eudaimonia to be the ultimate good. However, from this point, it can be argued that all
other goods are subservient to this good of life, but – parallel to Aristotle's perspective – this does
not mean that all other goods are insignificant. Human beings also pursue knowledge and
relationships, considered to be basic goods because they are contributing components to the ultimate
good of life, acting in a capacity that leads to fulfillment (Floyd). In light of the argument that health
is a basic good, it can be seen that certain illnesses or states of unhealthiness hinder an individual's
pursuit of what is good, so these states must be avoided.
Aquinas's view of Natural Law includes a more religious focus than Aristotle's, as he considers
every moral law to be a derivation of eternal law. This eternal law is God's way of governing human
beings toward the common basic goods (Murphy).

The Catholic Church And The Teachings About The Nature Of God

  • 1. The Catholic Church And The Teachings About The Nature Of God The Catholic Church's Response to the Heretical Teachings about the Nature of God. One of the major topics of discussion in the early church was about the nature of God. Some people questioned the oneness of God and did not believe that there is one essence in all three persons of God. Some other people did not believe that there are three persons of God. The major heresies all fit on a scale between two opposites. These opposites consist of Monarchianism and Tritheism. The heresies eventually led the church to establish the doctrine of Trinity in the Council of Nicaea held in the year 325 A.D. Even though the heresies between the two extremes were appealing, the Catholic Church rejects them and teaches the doctrine of Trinity. On the end of one extreme is Monarchianism. Monarchianism developed "as an attempt to maintain monotheism and refute Tritheism". . Monarchianism expands on monotheism; however, it exaggerates the oneness of God. Monarchianism teaches the idea that God is just one person. There are two sorts of Monarchianism. The two types of Monarchianism consist of modalistic Monarchianism and dynamic Monarchianism. Modalistic Monarchianism is the belief that the "one unique God manifests Himself in three different modes or stages". Modalistic monarchianists believed that the one person of God was simply the one that is described as the Father in the trinity. Modalistic monarchianists also believed God appeared as the Son and the Holy Spirit whenever it fitted for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. The Light Of Catholic Social Teaching Essay The Catholic Church believes that human life and human dignity go hand in hand. A threat to one is an equal threat to the other. The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches that, "The equality of men rests essentially on their dignity as persons and the rights that flow from it" (1935). The Second Vatican Council in Gaudium et Spes recognized that, "...any kind of social or cultural discrimination in basic personal rights on the grounds of sex, race, color, social conditions, language or religion, must be curbed and eradicated as incompatible with God's design" (29). In other words, humans were created in God's image and from that we acquire our dignity and rights because of that holy and sacred origin. The plan was meant for all to enjoy a basic equality and yet due to sin, the evil of racism has been allowed to permeate humanity, thus helping to deny human dignity and human rights. In the light of Catholic social teaching (CST), one asks the questions, in what ways does racism help to deny mankind its rights and dignity, and what are we as the Church doing to help combat this scourge on our communities and on society? Whether one calls it racism, xenophobia, or prejudice, all humans have an innate tendency to pre–judge others based external characteristics. This becomes a problem when we allow these observations to become stereotypes where all of one particular community or group are broadly painted by these subjective observations, normally negative. • 5. Compendium Of The Social Doctrine Of Church "The right to water, as all human rights, finds its basis in human dignity and not in any kind of quantitative assessment that considers water as a merely economic good. Without water, life is threatened." (Compendium of the Social Doctrine of the Church §485). Catholic social teaching articulates the understood principle in Catholicism that all members of the Church are called to provide for, care for, and protect the dignity and well–being of all creation, especially one's fellow man. This comes from the recognition of every individual as being unique and important in the eyes of God, due to being made in His image and likeness. Therefore, it is pivotal that the poor especially, and all creation, are always accounted for in the decisions that a country makes regarding its economic and political future. Because of this, there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is a matter of a common and universal duty, that of respecting a common good,[979] destined for all, by preventing anyone from using "with impunity the different categories of beings, whether living or inanimate – animals, plants, the natural elements – simply as one wishes, according to one's own economic needs" (Compendium of the Social Doctrine of the Church §466). The Catholic Church further warns: "Man thinks that he can make arbitrary use of the earth, subjecting it without restraint to his will, as though it did not have its own requisites and a prior God–given purpose, which man can indeed develop but must not betray" (Compendium of the Social Doctrine of the Church §460). If a private company's motive, once given control to a community's or nations water, is only profit, then earth's natural water sources are at risk. Unless there is strict regulation, those bodies of water, which already face depletion due to water misuse, pollution, and general scarcity, will face greater stress if profit–driven corporations are enabled due to private water ... • 7. La Casa De Amistad Focusing on immigration rights for people of Latin descent I chose La Casa de Amistad. This organization founded in 1973 by Father John Phalen strives to create a grounded community in South Bend. Due to their passion and consistent effort to bring forth opportunity and development for the community it is no surprise that they have done well throughout the years in the vast amount of services they offer. However what I shall be focusing on is their Immigration Legal Services program and how it goes hand in hand with the Catholic Social Teaching principle of participation. The mission at La Casa de Amistad is to foster inclusion and integration by strengthening the individuals to create an active community which invests in the nation. With their ... That in itself and each person's contribution with drinks, food, and their eagerness to share demonstrated that even before becoming citizens La Casa de Amistad had already created the sense of community. Each time I go to see them I am always welcomed with opened arms and a snack, and it creates a feeling of warmth within me. For seeing these vital pillars in our nation strive to be recognized as fellow citizens for the toil and struggle that they go through day in and day out to create a better nation is beautiful. They not only achieve that but they have a community that cares and is supportive of them who wishes to see them have the ability to finally get the chance to vote and have their voices recognized for they are part of our nation and should be treated with dignity and respect. As I spoke with Nancy I was amazed at the results that they have had with this program since it began ten years ago, for they have had a one–hundred percent pass rate of the naturalization exam, with over 400 people from 28 nations. Based on the effectiveness I don't have anything to see in regards to criticisms for they have done all to create a truly global community of individuals by giving them the resources needed to be part of all spheres in our society. In the past and in today's world the common good is short of being what is good for the whole world and has become what is good for a single society. The Cherokee Indians face the common good of the United States' culture being forced on to them. Due to this they have lost what their culture was about, along with hundreds of lives. We can see how the Catholic Social Teaching Principles a line with their past ways, and how their institutes and society have changed over time in the modern society, while adapting a new meaning to these principles. The first Catholic principle to be discussed is, "Life and Dignity of the Human Person." This simply means "that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many of the speakers made it clear that children that had parents in the boarding schools were terribly abused. These children turn into adults and did not know how to display love, and have anger issues. This in turn is taken out on their kids and then their kids making a chain of abuse within the generations. Not knowing how to deal with the abuse, and how to let go the abused turn to alcohol or drugs to deal with the emotion and trauma that come from it, and become addicted. Alcohol and drugs are also the number one way to cope for the Cherokee who have grown up with no identity too. They know their name but not who they are. They belong to a culture that is being torn down, and being forced into the United States' culture. For a while it was even shameful to be a Cherokee and some generations could not eve tell others who they were in fear for their own and their family's safety. The health–care institutes on the reserve reach out and help the Eastern Band of Cherokee's deal with their identity loss, their trauma, to help them cope, heal, remember and forgive. To make sure that the treatment is convenient for everyone they have a rehab center, and hospital right on the reserve. • 11. Five Aspects Of The Nine Catholic Social Thought Principles The Nine Catholic Social Thought Principles The way of life can be broken down into nine principles govern by the Catholic Social Thought (CST), covering all five aspects of humanity. The aspects include; social, spiritual, personal, economic and political, all five create a holistic approach to optimize a sense of humanity for self and the community. The nine principles of CST are as follows: Dignity of the Human person The first and most important principle is dignity of the human person as it empowers a foundation to the other eight principles. With respects to the catholic perspective "God created mankind in his own image" (genesis 1:27) meaning everyone in an idea world should have the same significances and respectability (Byron, 1998). Regardless of any identifying factors, age, intelligence or economic status no one should be above or below anyone, society should be in harmony and dignifying every human. A way to achieve this is by using Immanuel Kant's philosophy "Always treat people as ends in themselves, never as means to an end" (Kant, Heath & Schneewind, 2001). Without dignity there isn't much of humanity, as we will be all "means", used and maltreated. Common Good Common good falls into the first of the great commandments, "Love thy neighbour as thyself" (Mark 22:38). Breaking down this commandment expresses the golden rule conveyed by Hugh Mckay in he's book, 'The Good Life, what makes life worth living" (Australian Catholic University, 2017a). The golden rule allows the community to prosper as it works to support everyone, little pieces of kindness and charity to build a masterpiece called humankind. With building the masterpiece it lets up a brighter and greater future for generations to come. Subsidiarity Subsidiarity ensures a fair and just world, giving a voice to important issues, ideas and threats that the impacted people face in their lives. By giving subsidiarity to the general public it will allow the first principle of the CST, as it is securing human rights with specific legislation tailored to that community (Carozza, 2003. Pg.38–40). Having decision making proximal to the impacted people promotes community flourishment. Subsidiarity can be compressed into a niche ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Catholic Teachings On Abortion Persuasive Speech Welcome back to todays episode of Compass in my Parent Living Room tonight we will be investigating abortion in Australian society, and how this clashes with the teachings of the Catholic faith. We will be joined later by Marty, Catholic Father, and he will be providing an insight into the Catholic opinion on abortion. Lets start's the Program!! The action of receiving an abortion is heavily condemned within the Catholic Faith. Its believed that from conception to natural death all life is sacred and the deliberate killing of an unborn human is morally wrong. Within contemporary Australian society, this belief validity, as many states begin to pass legislation allowing women to legally to obtain an abortion. Abortion is one of the most frequently discussed ethical issues inside the catholic faith. The morals given by the Church clearly prohibit all uses of contraception to halt a pregnancy. The major ethic which the church teaches is that the process of delivering a child on this planet involves the creative action of God, therefore it is sacred from the ... The teaching is that all life is sacred and protected and so the Church tells us that we shouldn't be killing the fetus. It is evident, that both the Catholic teachings and natural law viciously oppose the termination of a pregnancy by the use a method of contraception, and especially abortion. The Catholic Teaching On Chastity The Catholic Teaching of Chastity: Vow of Chastity Religion is one of the most studied things in history due to its connection with our daily lives, and how people choose to live. Catholics have a set of rules, sacraments, and teachings that are in place to attain eternal life in the Kingdom of God. Vows and vocations go hand in hand with the Catholic teaching, most Catholics will take a vow of chastity as a way to commit themselves to God or to fulfill their vocation and complete all seven sacraments in life by living the life Jesus taught us. • 17. Catholic Social Teaching Essay Three important Catholic Social Teachings for us to take into account when considering Caritas' actions in the Pacific are Stewardship of Creation, Preferential Option for the Poor and Subsidiarity. Stewardship is a Catholic Social Teaching which instructs us that we the people have a responsibility to maintain and take care of the environmental resources, for we are the guardians of the land, not the true owners. Stewardship is us, God's Creation, having a responsibility to care for the gifts God has given us, with an emphasis on the environment as disregarding it and not taking care of it will have detrimental effects on generations to come. This Catholic Social Teaching is interlinked with the Maori view of Kaitiakitanga, that we are guardians and stewards of the land and are holding it for future generations to come. Stewardship is a Catholic Social Teaching evident in scripture and is shown in Genesis 2:15, 'Then the Lord God took the man and put him into the Garden of Eden to cultivate it and keep it' (Genesis 2:15). In this, we can see how Catholics are called to look after the land by 'cultivating' it in the best way so that we may 'keep' it, just as it is in the scripture. The scripture is telling us that God has entrusted us, his creation, to the task of looking after his creation with harmony and development, protecting it from harm. The idea of we the people having the responsibility to look after God's creation for all of creation, is an idea that Pope Francis reflects on in his Laudato Si #68 when he says "This responsibility for God's earth means that human beings, endowed with intelligence, must respect the laws of nature and the delicate equilibria existing between the creature of the ... To summarize, capitalism encourages a 'free market,' where competition between businesses drives the market. In communist societies, the government is in control of private property and means of production. These viewpoints held on the economy's days since Cory do not necessarily match up with Catholic Social Doctrine, which disagrees with the moral relativism of Unregulated capitalism. It also disagrees with the religious–suppression characterizing communist Governments, as well as the communist stance on property as something that should be collective. Both Catholic Socialist Teachings and communism, as envisioned by Marx and Engels, suggest a more collectivist approach to society by comparison to what is advocated for by capitalism, which placed less emphasis on society's collective. One particular element of communist teachings/government is the disdain for religion within the ideology. Karl Marx himself was known to have a negative view of organized religion, and this is expressed within his writings. To Marx, religion was a means of suppressing the lower classes, and placating them so that they would hot be hostile towards the rulers of European governments and industrial tycoons of the time. Marx's disdain for organized religion went on to affect cultures of societies with communist governments. For example, in Russia, the revolution and the following rise of the Soviets led to decreased influence of the Russian Orthodox Church, as the state was officially atheist. The attitude towards religion in communist thought has an obvious conflict with the principles of Catholicism, when this difference in religious belief (or lack thereof) is considered. I had to understand the circumstances in which people were in and how interact with residents respectfully and compassionately which provided opportunities for personal growth by practicing integrity, justice and good stewardship. Though I was a bit hesitant, my experience has been very positive. Just being a volunteer without any related experience or skills, I was unqualified to help and many ways. When visiting rooms, I did encounter people who were losing grip on their mental and physical abilities. I felt a heaviness because even though they were taken care of, there wasn't that could be done to make them better. It was inspiring seeing nurses and family members continuing to care for them and keep dignity. I do believe my action had an impact on the residents. When assisting with activities for the residents, we were able to spend less time setting up–less time residents needed to just sit and wait for the activity to being. The impact made was I was able to get services to the residents (who can and do get impatient when waiting to play bingo.) I also think that simple gestures of kindness were enough to brighten someone's day which in and of itself makes it worthwhile. • 23. Catholic Social Teaching Of Human Dignity In Nursing The guiding principles of Catholic Social Teaching have the overarching, dominating theme of human dignity (Condit, 2016, p. 371). The focus is, that human beings were formed in God's image and in return, humanities purpose is to follow in God's footsteps and portray the same love and grace (Coleman, 2008) (Condit, 2016, p. 371). Consequently, this affects how human beings interact with each other, requiring commitment, to look after, encourage, maintain and promote each other (Coleman, 2008) (Herbert, 2016, p. 7). One way to apply, this Catholic Social Teaching of human dignity, is to understand the nurse's relationship with the patient. Nurses need to approach the patient with respect and maintain the person's privacy, acknowledging that they are a fellow human being, with their own personal characteristics and beliefs (Condit, 2016, p. 371) (Walsh & Kowanko, 2002, p. 143–144, 149). ... Additionally, the Catholic Church defends the dignity of each person, since God created people to love and serve him. While immigration may have some negatives, it is my view that immigration is a necessity for the United States because of its roots in Catholic social teaching, effects on economy, and the need for basic rights of individuals to obtain a better life. The Bishops state that, the native does not have superior rights over the immigrant. Before God all are equal; the earth was given by God to all. When a person cannot achieve a meaningful life in his or her own land, that person has the right to move (Catholic Bishops). The next principle touched upon is the right of a country to regulate its boarders and control immigration. This principle is grounded in the belief that people have the right to move but no country is bound by anything to accept those that want to resettle there. This principle also brings to light the reasons for immigrants fleeing which is normally for somber reasons as they are fleeing from an unsafe place. This illustrates that many immigrants are coming from a bad situation which is not looked highly upon in Catholic social teaching as it goes against the common good to have "bad areas". The Catholic Bishops comment on the idea of immigration as a whole explaining that, "catholic social teaching is realistic: While people have the right to move, no country has the duty to receive so many immigrants that its social and economic life are jeopardized". • 35. The Catholic Church's Teaching on Contraception Tafadzwa Kushamba: Contraception This week marks the forty–sixth anniversary of Pope Paul VI's encyclical Humanae Vitae, a document which clarified the Church's moral teaching on contraception. What is contraception? Contraception is, "any action which either before, at the moment of, or after sexual intercourse, is specifically intended to prevent procreation whether as an end or as a means" (Humanae Vitae 14). There are various methods of contraception that temporarily or permanently sterilize a couple, thus making it impossible to have children. Contraception destroys the union and love between couples. In this we find that contraception violates God's plan of procreation. Contraceptives go against the gift of fertility by treating pregnancy as a disease. The issue of contraception has drawn worldwide attention with people divided on whether it is morally permissible to use any form of contraception. Society views contraception as a development in the modern world that helps in the regulation of birth. We find that many Catholics don't understand this issue and the Church's teaching on contraception has been misunderstood. The Church makes it clear through Humane Vitae that any use of contraception is morally wrong, for it violates the dignity of marriage and God's plan of procreation. It is our understanding that marriage is a sacrament of love between two people, instituted by God, for the whole purpose of continuing his plan of creation. Marriage is the foundation of ... • 45. Social Justice And Government By Karl Marx Social Justice and Government The view of social justice in today's society may be different depending on who you are, what religion you come from, or even the culture in which you were raised. According to the Catholic Church and its social teachings, the view of social justice is talked about in the Catechism of the Catholic Church. It is viewed as the condition that allows individuals and associations to gain what is their due, according to the Catechism of the Catholic Church's stance on social justice. Since individuals are already created equally through God, therefore the perfect form of social justice is an environment where the individual is able to reach their full human potential. The "Industrial Revolution" that started in the 1780's in Great Britain had many effects, but they were not fully felt until the 1830's or 1840's. The works done by Karl Marx talks about how the classless system was not the ideal form of government in Europe. Karl Marx formed and developed the modern day popular form of "social justice" known as Marxism or socialism. Marx's problem with the struggles of social justice and society during his time era were that he could not accept the form of politics such as the classless system at that time and on the rebound he introduced his idealism. • 47. Catholic Social Education : The Three Principles Of... The principles of Catholic Social Teaching have been used as a guide to making responses to social problems ever since the principles were developed in 1891. The following three principles are the most relevant to the refugee crisis. 1. Human Dignity All Humans were created in the image of God. Human dignity is the honour, importance, respect and worth that belongs every person simply because they are human. In addition, it is also the status that belongs to each person as we are made in the image of God. This dignity grants all inalienable, political, legal, social and economic rights and is a key foundation in Catholic ethics. The denial of refugees into a country is taking away their dignity. They no longer have control over their life or choices. On their journey they must live in a world in which their dignity is striped away and they can no longer live as human beings. Forced to sleep on the streets, they are alone, on the move without physical security or legal protection, on the move in a world in which their rights as human beings are not recognized. They must travel on foot, by bus, and by sea, entrusting their lives to smugglers and depending only on the kindness of strangers. "The Church offers her love and assistance to all refugees without distinction as to religion or race, respecting in each of them the inalienable dignity of the human person created in the image of God (cf. Gn 1:27)." When human dignity is violated the church must intervene (2422–2423) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A principled person always has a place to stand, knows where he or she is coming from and likely to end up. Principles always lead the person who possesses them somewhere, for some purpose, to do something (Byron)." Principles serve as the foundation for a system or belief. To most people, it makes sense that a religion would have a set of principle beliefs; much less often, however, are the principles of an individual acknowledged Martin Luther King Jr. was a prime example of an individual whose strong principle foundation gave him the means to stand up for his beliefs. Within King's writing, "Letter from Birmingham Jail," he makes a blanket claim of his stance by stating, "I am in Birmingham because injustice is here. Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere." Simply put, King stands for justice. His principle belief that every person – no matter their race – deserve equal access to means propels him to take action. He realized that there were consequences for his belief – particularly jail. Despite knowing this was where he would undoubtedly end up, he stood behind his belief that humans' of all races deserved to feel dignified and accepted in society, as well as have equal opportunities for voice and action (involvement in various outlets). The Church: An Analysis of The Rerum Novarum Publication Introduction In this essay I will identify the issues which brought about this papal encyclical in 1891, specifically the social conditions of people, resulting from industrialisation and the church's Christological role in declaring human dignity in terms of God's plan for mankind. I will set out the historical position in Britain in this late Victorian era within the context of European radical political upheaval, as part of the need for reform and a response from the Church. These issues will be compared with the encyclical one hundred years later, to analyse the development of policy in1891 and 1991 in terms of the church's teaching, within the ... The principle of private property was central to this belief. His ideas stemmed from Aquinas and the belief in natural, God given law. His mind was influenced by the reality of dealing with socialism in the loss of the Papal States and the threat that supporting socialist causes would automatically lead to revolution and anti–church aggression. He argued against the Marxist philosophy, claiming it was the individual's right, rather than the state, to own property, thus supporting families in their religious duties. The encyclical was issued less than forty years after Pius IX's Syllabus of Errors which declared: 'It is an error to believe that the Roman pontiff can or should reconcile himself to, and agree with progress, liberalism, and modern civilizations.' Leo XIII regarded the ius sanctum of property as something implicit in the traditional theory of Thomistic theology, without conceding a 'liberal' doctrine of the state. Secondly his approval of societies being set up with a common interest as long as they did not oppose the Church, gave a lasting legacy to this day, for the growth of the modern trade union movement. The article, "The racist NYPD captain who ruined my career for not targeting enough blacks and Hispanics got promoted," surfaces a prevalent social justice issue of racism. Racism is holding prejudices on the basis of the race. The issue of racism is complex one because of its far–reaching effects and implications. It makes people feel inferior, creates a gap between the people of the society. The members of racial groups that are discriminated against face unequal access and opportunities. It is harder for them to find well–paying jobs or live in good neighborhoods. Racism exists not only in employment but also in law enforcement. It "concerns the invidious use of race or ethnicity as a criterion in conducting stops, searches and other law enforcement investigative procedures" (The Reality of Racial Profiling). This news article buttress this statement as it states that the white men were not arrested for the same crimes that the black men were arrested for. Despite the passage of numerous laws to prohibit racism, it till persists. For instance, the Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (Title VII), prohibits employment discrimination based on race. Yet, the close scrutiny shows that the black Americans are less likely to get that job. Racism has always existed in the society and has a negative connotation to it. Dorothy Day Pacifism Analysis Essay 2 Being Catholic comes with some important ideological stances about an individuals value to society and the Catholic church and communities surrounding the church have developed a strong stance on the importance of humanity. Dorothy Day took the ideologies of Catholic social teaching and combined them with her long standing history of social justice work and created an environment that fostered community and equality for people who were suffering under the economic strains of the 30s and other societal injustices, such as racism. The call to give up our neutral sea rights is interesting in that she is asking we stop engaging with other countries in trade and instead "live at home" this concept is tied to the Catholic social teaching that unjust economies creates injustice (Evangelii Gaudium). The idea is that with trade amongst other countries benefitting the upper classes and not creating jobs or other opportunities for impoverished populations the injustice pervades and creates a space for more inequality. • 63. Joan Of Arc Argument Joan of Arc was a young woman who came from very humble roots, and eventually overcame these roots through God in order to fight for war torn France. In Donald Spoto's, Joan: The Mysterious Life of the Heretic Who Became a Saint, Joan is portrayed as having many visions from God telling her what to do, and eventually following them which began to prove France wrong about women in battle. After many victorious battles, she was captured, locked up in a cell and held for ransom until Cauchon, who was trying to eliminate the king in power in France and gain the bishop position at Rouen, bought Joan, and charged her for being a heretic. She was found guilty on these charges and burned at the stake, all with unbroken faith. Joan's conviction ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These principles can most likely be seen present day through the Principles of Catholic Social Teaching, which many who read about Joan of Arc would argue were nonexistent at this time due to the atrocities that were committed against her–this is wrong. The website for the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops states that, "God reveals himself to us as one who is not alone, but rather as one who is relational, one who is Trinity" ("Catholic Social Teaching"). I believe this is where the teachings relate to Joan because throughout her life, God is constantly showing her that she is not alone by guiding her through each battle that she faces. Her story of everlasting faith promotes the teachings and gives true backing to them that would otherwise be nonexistent. I believe that it is very anachronistic to view modern social teachings and try to apply them to medieval times because society and cultural norms were so different. To try to apply these teachings to medieval times would be like giving Joan of Arc an iPhone and telling her to make a call, she would have no idea what those words even meant or the context in which you used them, and the same is for the teachings. The ideas of dignity and respect have changed so much over the years that medieval people would be very surprised at the kinds of rights, and the ideas that religious society has today, especially considering that not everyone today is religious. I believe these ideas would not even have really been introduced to them, especially in such mass amounts of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 65. Teachings of Catholics About Abortion Essay Teachings of Catholics About Abortion Catholics today agree that to directly end the life of a foetus in the womb is a serious moral sin. Genesis tells us "Life begins at conception". This would suggest that from the moment of conception, the foetus is a human and has rights to life. "You shall not murder" Exodus 20:13 informs us that even if the child is in the womb it still has a life and having an abortion is seen as killing someone. "Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you." Jeremiah 1:5, suggests that God knows the soul of every foetus, and therefore proves that the fertilised egg is a human life. Catholics believe that God's spirit lives in every person, even in an unborn child ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This means that as soon as the egg is fertilized it is seen as a new life. Therefore, it would be true to say that Catholics are against abortion since "Thou shall not kill" is one of the commandments. By having an abortion a life is destroyed. This is known as murder. The only time Catholics accept, but not necessarily agree with abortion, is when the mother is in great danger, and is likely to die if the pregnancy continues. However, this does not cover the issue of when a woman has been raped. Catholics believe that is it wrong to kill a child for the wrong doings of the father and for that reason should not be aborted. Overall, the killing of a child is wrong, no matter whether it is in a womb or not. As a Catholic, we would see that having an abortion is a form of murder and therefore a moral sin. AO3 Abortion is never justified. Discuss. Abortion is an issue which many people have strong feelings about. But should the foetus have equal rights to the mother? Some people may feel that if a mother was carrying an unwanted child, they should not be forced to keep the child just because of religious beliefs. She is the one that would have to carry the child for 9 months, so should have every option open to her. The life of the mother is more important than the foetus if she is in real danger. The baby would not know a thing since

  • 70. Transubstantiation : The Catholic Teaching Of The Eucharist Transubstantiation Transubstantiation is the Catholic teaching of the Eucharist. The Catholic teaching is that after a priest blesses the bread and wine sacrament, they become the actual body and blood of Christ. It is taught the bread and wine retain their physical appearance, but their essence changes. The action is performed before the congregation during a Church service. The Reformation view is against this, saying the bread and wine are merely a metaphor. Trinity The Trinity is the theological idea that The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit exist as three persons under one Godhead. All three are God, but are all three different from each other. Each one is equally holy and have been in existence for all of eternity. The idea was formulated during the fourth century at the councils of Nicaea and Constantinople. The evidence for the Trinity can be found in the Bible, but is never clearly stated. Vatican II Vatican II was started in October 1952 by Pope John XXIII, and concluded in December 1965 under Pope Paul IV. The goal of the council was to build up and renew the Catholic Church. Over four meetings, representatives from many different churches, not just Catholics, met to discuss the meaning and role of the Church in the its members. Discussions also encouraged the interfaith dialog with non–Catholics. Vatican II modernized the Church, making its teaching more applicable to current times. • 72. What Would Jesus Do What would Jesus do in regards to the social justice issue of immigration? Would he give immigrants a fair and unbiased opportunity in a new country, or would he turn his back towards these hopeful people? The Catholic Church teaches us that Jesus would support immigrants, live by the Catholic Social Justice Themes and the Christian Feminist model of Justice, and give these people a fighting chance in a new country. These ideologies represent hope, a more promising future for immigration, and a change in how we see one another. The two Catholic Social Justice themes that relate best to the issue of immigration are the themes of global solidarity and rights and responsibilities. Global solidarity is an important aspect of social life because it teaches us that people are an interdependent race and that we all fit together into a larger and more unified community. We are all one people, despite our many racial, economic, national, ideological, and religious differences. The Catholic Social Teaching of global solidarity tells us that we are all brothers and sisters and that we must take it upon ourselves to care for one another. We as humans are inherently social beings, so it is biologically important for us to live together in communion. • 76. The Persuasive Essay : The Destruction Of Coral Reefs If people do not start to act soon, hundreds of species around the world will be extinct by the year 2050. Healthy coral reefs mean healthy oceans, and healthy oceans mean a healthier earth. Water covers 70% of the earth's surface and less than 1% of that is coral reefs. Without coral reefs, water is dirtier and wildlife is less abundant. Coral reefs are also important to the development of new medicines. Without coral reefs, scientists might never find a cure for diseases like Cancer, and Alzheimer's. A Greek goddess that could protect coral reefs would be very beneficial because without the reefs, there would be many problems. This goddess would protect the reefs around the world and hurt people who were threatening the safety of them. The destruction of coral reefs is such a devastating issue because the reefs help to give animals homes, who have had their habitats destroyed and limit the furthering of medical research. Society today needs a goddess to protect the coral reefs for many reasons. Without doing something to save the reefs, the National Coral Reef Foundation says that, "the reefs will be completely gone by 2050 if action is not taken, and there will be many consequences." Coral reefs help to regulate the acidity in water and if they are gone, then the water will become too acidic and sea life will begin to die off. If too much sea life dies off, then the fishing industry will crash and humans will lose a valuable market and food source. In addition, if the water temperature keeps rising, the reefs will enter a process called bleaching. Bleaching is the process in which the coral lets out their algae to try to cool down the water to survive. In turn, the coral turns grayish–white and is unable to regulate the acidity in the water, which has severe consequences. 1 billion people in Asia depend on the coral reefs for a food/money source. Csmonitor.com says, "If the reefs vanished, experts say, hunger, poverty and political instability could ensue." • 78. Natural Law Perspectives Thomas Aquinas was a proponent of the derivationist perspective of Natural Law, holding that it is possible to derive knowledge of what is good for humans by studying humans themselves (Floyd). In other words, practical judgments regarding the natural ends of human flourishing need to be derived from theoretical proofs about human nature. The most important realization that can be made from this is that life can be classified as the ultimate good, for without life, individuals would not be able to experience any other goods (Floyd). This position varies slightly from Aristotle, who considered eudaimonia to be the ultimate good. However, from this point, it can be argued that all other goods are subservient to this good of life, but – parallel to Aristotle's perspective – this does not mean that all other goods are insignificant. Human beings also pursue knowledge and relationships, considered to be basic goods because they are contributing components to the ultimate good of life, acting in a capacity that leads to fulfillment (Floyd). In light of the argument that health is a basic good, it can be seen that certain illnesses or states of unhealthiness hinder an individual's pursuit of what is good, so these states must be avoided. Aquinas's view of Natural Law includes a more religious focus than Aristotle's, as he considers every moral law to be a derivation of eternal law. This eternal law is God's way of governing human beings toward the common basic goods (Murphy). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
