Privilage walk
1. Nick Martin Privilege walk
In this exercises we were asked various amounts of questions. The questions that were asked
pertained to myself, my family, and how I was raised. The questions were somewhat personal.
When I was doing this exercise I felt somewhat awkward not only for myself but other students
in the class. Usually the questions that were asked I usually would never know the answer to
from the other students. The exercise made me feel different since one of my parents is not from
the United States. When I was doing this exercise I was constantly wondering what the other
students were thinking. Also I wondered if some of the students were embarrassed by their own
personal circumstances and were ashamed to answer the questions truthfully. I think that the
experiment opened all the student’s eyes. If you’ve had it good you should be grateful. If you
don’t you have the opportunity now in college to give a better life to yourself and your children.
When my father came to the United States when he was 18 he came here for a better life for
himself and his kids. I learned from this exercise that just because you have it rough doesn’t
mean you can’t do something it might just be more of a challenge to pursue what you want in
your life. In life you should never judge someone from where they are from or what they look
like. We are all one people and everyone should be treated the same.
