My UX team has got the assignment to create a template
to print Identity Cards for the employees.
Identity Card has to match the dimensions and design of
the existing Identity Card.
1. Create a template using Photoshop
Pros:
• Looks vibrant and creative
Cons:
• Print output is not clear
• File size is large, takes time to spool the print.
• Designing process is time taking and error prone.
• HR person need to remember the image, user name
and employee-id.
• Purchase Photoshop and train the HR team on the tool.
2. Automate and simplify the process
I have developed the Power point macro:
• PPT template can generate more than 1K identity cards in
less than 2 seconds.
• Capable of printing front and back side of the card.
• Added user name and emp-id naming convection.
• Images are imported and inserted in the template.
• There are two options to print, as soon as template is
created or manually give print command after the proof
reading.
• Anyone from HR can print the Identity Card.
We have proposed two options.

PPT is shared to HR over the email. File size is less than 20Kb.
Ready to use, no special installation was required.
HR is excited about the PPT template.
HR person has got more time to perform other activities.
Improved response time to the new joiners.
Saved time and money of the HR department.

UX Learnings
• Talk to the customer and understand the scope of
work. Interrogate for clear requirement.
• There are some cases where following the UX process
is not required.
An OPD is a hospital department designed to be a first contact point
between the patient and the hospital staff. A Patient who goes first time
to the hospital, he directly goes to OPD and then the OPD decides to
which department a patient should go.
I have resolved “the UX problem” just by doing the OPD.
I took this as a Hackathon Challenge and
implemented the solution in a days time.
