Nathaniel Miller completed 8 sketches over the course of daily practice. The sketches focused on drawing characters from reference images to improve rendering skills, as well as practicing depth and detail in scenes of a sports set and objects in front of him. He worked on techniques like shadowing, texture, and using background elements to bring subjects forward.

In this sketch I worked
on drawing Patrick in
preparation for my
Mudbox character.

3. Sketch 2
In this sketch I worked
on looking at an image
and drawing it the best I
could. It stemmed from
the Patrick sketch that I
made for the character
for Mudbox.

4. Sketch 3
In this sketch I drew the
set of Sportscenter. I
tried to work with depth,
drawing the picture
from the point of view of
someone standing near
the cameras.

5. Sketch 4
Once again I worked on
being able to draw an
image that I was looking
at. I worked on giving
some detail to the
background with the
sideline instead of only
focusing on the center
of the image.

In this sketch I tried to
used the background
shading to bring out the
main image in the
drawing.

7. Sketch 6
In this sketch I
attempted to draw a
picture with shadowing
and a person twisting to
catch a baseball.

8. Sketch 7
In this sketch I
attempted to recreate a
picture of a cat. I
struggled to give the
proper visual texture to
the cat, initially
attempting straight lines
then creating small
circles.

In this sketch I worked
on drawing in detail a
whole scene directly in
front of me. I tried to
give detail to each object
in front of me and use
background images to
provide depth.
