This document discusses GIZ's approaches to monitoring and evaluation (M&E) of adaptation. It notes that M&E is important to understand how climate vulnerability changes over time and the impacts of adaptation actions. GIZ has developed targeted M&E methods and tools, including a toolbox to support M&E at national and project levels. GIZ also provides capacity building and support for partner countries to develop national adaptation M&E systems. While many countries are developing M&E systems, challenges remain around focusing on outcomes rather than just processes, limited learning and information sharing, and assessing adaptation across different scales.
