2. We Begin with Site Analysis
Site analysis is the process of studying the contextual forces that influence how a building might
be situated. What will be its layout and orientation to the space, the shape of the building, and its
relationship to the landscape?
3. Architectural Programming Comes
Next
Architectural Programming is the decision making process
that identifies the scope of work for the design services.
1. Project type: Custom home or remodel?
2. Detail goals and objectives for the project
3. Gather information on light, wind, zoning, heights
and setbacks
4. Develop strategies: Such as day and night lighting
design, use of materials, and the connection between
the indoor and outdoor environments
5. Schematic Design
Next, the designer makes a preliminary evaluation of the program, schedule, budget, and project
site. Based on the evaluations he designs conceptual building floor plans and elevations.
6. Design Development
Design development is the period in which the approved schematic design receives
the refinement and coordination necessary for a well polished work of architecture.
7. Design Development
The decisions made in Schematic Design are worked out on a scale that minimizes
the possibility of major modifications during the construction documentation phase.
8. Construction Documents
Based on approved Design Development and any other changes, the designer prepares
drawings that establish in detail the requirements for the construction project, systems, and
quality level of materials.
