3. Your Interns
Our interns:
• Are typically from
Staten Island or the
Bronx
• May be high school
students, college
students, or not
currently enrolled in
school
• Have diverse
backgrounds
• Have varying levels
of experience and
credentials
Interns must be 16-24
to work in a traditional
worksite setting
• 14-15 year olds are
placed in a Project-
Based Learning
setting
• (no exceptions)
Program dates:
• Program dates: July
6th - August 14th
• Interns can work up
to 25 hours a week
• 7 days a week
Payroll
• Interns are paid
$15/hour through
funding from the
NYC Department of
Youth & Community
Development
(“DYCD”)

4. Job Requirements:
We are happy to honor any reasonable job
requirements you put forth. However, please keep in
mind that this program is designed to give entry-level
job experience to young people with various
backgrounds and skill levels. Interns will have varying
credential levels, and may or may not have prior work
experience. We kindly ask that you take that into
consideration when finalizing your job requirements.
The more skills required, the less
likely we will be able to find a
suitable intern for your worksite.

5. Your UAU Point of Contact
Your UAU Point of
Contact
The UAU staff
member who initially
signed you up for the
program will not
necessarily be your
point of contact
during the program.
Our Job Developers
often transition the
management of their
accounts to other
staff members for
program
implementation.
Your first point of
contact throughout
implementation will
be the Job Readiness
Counselor (JRC). This
person will be your
UAU liaison and
communicate with
you at least a few
times per week to
ensure that things
are running
smoothly. They will
handle all paperwork,
including timesheets
and weekly
assessments. They
are your go-to person
for all things SYEP!
•They will contact you
prior to the program
start date to introduce
themselves and give you
their contact
information.
Your secondary
contact is your JRC’s
supervisor. This
person is either a Job
Developer, Youth
Employment
Coordinator,
Employment
Specialist, or Program
Coordinator at UAU.
If there is anything
the JRC needs
support on, they will
step in to assist.
•You will only speak
with/meet this person if
it becomes necessary.

6. Timesheets
Timesheets will be managed electronically
• This year we are managing the timesheets electronically
• Interns must sign in AND sign out every day they work. A reminder will be
sent to them weekly to update their timesheets.
• Worksites will receive a weekly notification on Sunday night as a reminder
to review the timesheets online and approve. A link and instructions will be
sent with each reminder.
• Weekly hours cannot exceed 25
• lunch and breaks are unpaid and do not count towards the 25 hours..
• Must sign in and out using 15 minute intervals
• Round to the nearest 15 minute interval
Example 1:00, NOT 1:03, or 1:15, NOT 1:09
• Please review timesheets before submitting timesheets to UAU staff
to ensure they are properly filled out and signed.

7. Evaluations
We perform evaluations of progress with
the worksites. Intern mid-program and end-
of-program evaluations will be distributed
before/during weeks 3 and 6, respectively.
• Interns are to be evaluated on a scale of
1-5 in each of the categories listed, with
their average score calculated at the
bottom.
• Scores of 1, 2, or 5 must be supported by
an explanation in the comments section.
• JRCs will collect them the following week

8. Worksite Assessments
Summarizes the status of the
worksite for that week: how
well interns are adjusting,
what they have been
working on, whether there
are any concerns, etc.
The JRC completes the form
on a weekly basis based on
their conversations with both
the supervisor and the
interns, as well as their own
observations.
There is only one form no
matter how many interns a
worksite has.
Supervisor signs and dates at
the bottom.

9. Insurance & Liability
All interns are automatically covered under DYCD’s
insurance. Individual worksites are NOT
responsible.
In the case of an incident, an Incident Report must
be filled out and handed in to your JRC within 24
hours. Ask your JRC for the form.
