Introduction

       The short story is about a pretty young woman in Old Maynilad (Manila) before the
Spaniards came to our country. You will find details in the speech and manner of the characters
in the story which are typical of the people during the pre-Spanish era.

Interaction

   1.    Segue: Ask them the following questions: How would you characterize the four major
        characters in the story? What do you base your characterization on?
   2.   Have the students read the story and identify the characters.
   3.   Prereading
        a. Read the sections Supplement your Knowledge and Spotlight on the Background.
        b. Have the students give the meanings of the vocabulary expressions enumerated in
            Search for the Correct Meaning.
   4.   Inform the students that they will read a story that depicts a character with traits
        representative of the pre-Spanish period.
   5.   Let the students answer the questions in Sharing Insights. Process the answer.

Integration

    Interpreting character should be base on how the person shows his traits.
