be the sign that your sciatic nerve is compressed. Physical therapy experts in Pearland
say that this happens because the nerve is trapped between the muscles and bones that
surround it.
The sciatic nerve is formed by 5 sets of paired nerve roots and it runs from the back of
your hips down to your legs.
These nerve gliding exercises will help you getting relief from sciatic pain temporarily.

The Bent Knee
• Start by laying on your back and raising one leg bent at the knee. Put your hands
behind the knee to add support.
• Slowly straighten the leg discontinuing the movement once you feel a pull on the
back of your knee and thigh.
• Make sure the other leg lays straight on the floor with its sole facing the wall.
• The sole of your foot that’s in the air should be facing the ceiling.
• Relax after a few seconds in this position, repeating it 10 to 20 times.
• Follow the same process on the other leg.
The Leg Raise
• Get a chair low enough to let the soles of your feet lay flat on the floor.
• Gently lift the leg in pain and straighten it while leaning back on the chair.
• To finish the exercise, lower your leg whilst leaning forward with a straight back.

start feeling pain.
• Try doing the exercise 3 to 5 times a day, depending on the pain.
The Leg Kick
• Another exercise that can be done on a chair is by sitting on it with a straight back
and both feet touching the floor.
• Push your leg into the chair by bending the knee and simultaneously touch your
chin to your chest.
• As you go back into the relaxed position by pulling your leg forward your head will
face the wall too.
• At the end of the session, you should be feeling relaxed.
The Hamstring
• For this exercise, you’ll need a stable surface where you can rest your leg. A step
would be fine.
• Position yourself in front of the step, stand straight and put one leg on the step.
• With your toes pointing up and a straight back lean forward to hold the position
for about 25 seconds.
• Relax and repeat with the other leg.
• Alternate between both the legs as you do the exercise three times.
