6. “AND IF ALLAH DID NOT
CHECK ONE SET OF PEOPLE
BY MEANS OF ANOTHER,
THE EARTH WOULD INDEED
BE FULL OF MISCHIEF”
Chapter 5
7. The Universal Law of checking one set of people by means of another
1. Spiritual Guidance and giving the Incentive to Fight
2. Physical Training
a) Freeing the Self from Attachment to this Life
b) Practically training one's Soul to make Sacrifices
c) With Jihaad comes honour
Some Of The Goals Of Performing Jihaad In The Way Of Allah
1. Protecting the Freedom to Believe Islam
2. Protecting Places of Worship and Religious Symbols
3. Overcoming corruption and injustice on Earth
4. Testing, Training, and Improving the Spiritual Mettle of Believers
5. Thretening the polytheist and foiling their evil plots
6. Exposing the Hypocrites
7. Establishing Allah’s rules on earth
8. “AND IF ALLAH DID NOT CHECK ONE SET OF PEOPLE BY MEANS OF
ANOTHER, THE EARTH WOULD INDEED BE FULL OF MISCHIEF”
So they defeated them by permission of Allah ,
and David killed Goliath, and Allah gave him the
kingship and prophethood and taught him from
that which He willed. And if it were not for Allah
checking [some] people by means of others, the
earth would have been corrupted, but Allah is full
of bounty to the worlds.(2-251)
[They are] those who have been evicted from
their homes without right - only because they
say, "Our Lord is Allah ." And were it not that
Allah checks the people, some by means of
others, there would have been demolished
monasteries, churches, synagogues, and
mosques in which the name of Allah is much
mentioned. And Allah will surely support those
who support Him. Indeed, Allah is Powerful and
Exalted in Might. (22-40)
9. DYNAMICS OF NATIONS
Checking on a corrupt person is straightforward, but when the nation itself becomes a symbol of falsehood,
the ‘check’ is of a different kind
Allah thus made it clear that warding off corruption by means of putting nations in check is a blessing
that comprehensively benefits all people.
In short, the universal law of keeping nations in check required the legislation of fighting - the Jihaad, which
will remain obligatory upon Muslims Resurrection
Some Of The Goals Of Performing Jihaad In The Way Of Allah
1. Protecting the Freedom to Believe Islam [8:39-40]
2. Protecting Places of Worship and Religious Symbols [22:38-41]
3. Overcoming corruption and injustice on Earth [2:250-252]
4. Testing, Training, and Improving the Spiritual Mettle of Believers [47:4-6][3:142]
5. Threatening the polytheist and foiling their evil plots [8:60] [9:14-15]
6. Exposing the Hypocrites [3:179]
7. Establishing Allah’s rules on earth [4:105]
10. LEGISLATION OF FIGHTING
1. Not to fight; be wary of enemy
Be patient, for indeed, I have not been commanded to fight
2. Permission to fight, not obligatory
Permission [to fight] has been given to those who are being fought, because they were
wronged. And indeed, Allah is competent to give them victory-22:39
3. Obligatory to fight those who fought them
Fight in the way of Allah those who fight you but do not transgress. Indeed. Allah does not
like transgressors -2:190
4. Obligatory upon muslims to fight the polytheists collectively
And fight against the disbelievers collectively as they fight against you collectively. And
know that Allah is with the righteous [who fear Him].-At-Tawbah 9:36

11. RESPONSE BY THE PROPHET ﷺ
And prepare against them whatever you are able of power and of steeds of war
by which you may terrify the enemy of Allah and your enemy and others besides
them whom you do not know [but] whom Allah knows. And whatever you spend
in the cause of Allah will be fully repaid to you, and you will not be
wronged.Anfal-8:60
Giving of spiritual guidance and
incentives
Actual physical training
12. SPIRITUAL GUIDANCE AND GIVING
THE INCENTIVE TO FIGHT
Victory or Paradise
'By the One in Whose hand is my soul, were it not that some men among the believers
would not like to stay behind when I went out (to fight), and I could not find any mounts
for them, I would not have stayed behind from any campaign that fought in the cause of
Allah. By the One in Whose hand is my soul, I wish that I could be killed in the cause of
Allah, then brought back to life, then killed, then be brought back to life, then killed.’
bukharee 2797
"Nobody who enters Paradise likes to go back to the world even if he got everything on
the earth, except a Mujahid who wishes to return to the world so that he may be
martyred ten times because of the dignity he receives (from Allah).“ bukharee 2817
13. PHYSICAL TRAINING
"He who learnt archery and then neglected it, is not from us." (Or Said,) "He Has Been Guilty Of Disobedience (To Messenger Of
Allah)." [Muslim].
Even the older people-fitness
"Prepare to meet them (the enemy) with as much strength as you can afford. Verily! Strength is in archery, strength is in archery,
strength is in archery." [Muslim].
O you who have believed, take your precaution and [either] go forth in companies or go forth all together.4:71
General rule-no specifics-time dependent
On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ( ﷺ) say:
The first of people against whom judgment will be pronounced on the Day of Resurrection will be a man who died a martyr. He will be
brought and Allah will make known to him His favors and he will recognize them. [ The Almighty] will say: And what did you do about
them? He will say: I fought for you until I died a martyr. He will say: You have lied - you did but fight that it might be said [of you]: He is
courageous. And so it was said. Then he will be ordered to be dragged along on his face until he is cast into Hell-fire.
[Another] will be a man who has studied [religious] knowledge and has taught it and who used to recite the Quran. He will be brought
and Allah will make known to him His favors and he will recognize them. [The Almighty] will say: And what did you do about them? He
will say: I studied [religious] knowledge and I taught it and I recited the Quran for Your sake. He will say: You have lied - you did but study
[religious] knowledge that it might be said [of you]: He is learned. And you recited the Quran that it might be said [of you]: He is a reciter.
And so it was said. Then he will be ordered to be dragged along on his face until he is cast into Hell-fire.
[Another] will be a man whom Allah had made rich and to whom He had given all kinds of wealth. He will be brought and Allah will make
known to him His favors and he will recognize them. [The Almighty] will say: And what did you do about them? He will say: I left no path
[untrodden] in which You like money to be spent without spending in it for Your sake. He will say: You have lied - you did but do so that it
might be said [of you]: He is open-handed. And so it was said. Then he will be ordered to be dragged along on his face until he is cast
into Hell-fire. It was related by Muslim (also by at-Tirmidhi and an-Nasa'i)
14. PURIFYING INTENTIONS AND…
1. Freeing the Self from Attachment to this Life
Death is a strong possibility
Abstaining from looking back at this world, and looking forward to hereafter and paradise
Selling out his soul for the sake of Allah, for which Allah says:
Indeed, Allah has purchased from the believers their lives and their properties [in exchange] for that they will have Paradise. They fight in the
cause of Allah , so they kill and are killed. [It is] a true promise [binding] upon Him in the Torah and the Gospel and the Qur'an. And who is truer
to his covenant than Allah ? So rejoice in your transaction which you have contracted. And it is that which is the great attainment. [Such believers
are] the repentant, the worshippers, the praisers [of Allah ], the travelers [for His cause], those who bow and prostrate [in prayer], those who
enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong, and those who observe the limits [set by] Allah . And give good tidings to the believers. [9:111-112]
2. Practically training one's Soul to make Sacrifices
Paradise is surrounded by that which one dislikes—giving up comfort, tests
Or do you think that you will enter Paradise while Allah has not yet made evident those of you who fight in His cause and made
evident those who are steadfast? [3:142]
3. With Jihaad comes honour
A believer is honorable and that he derives his honor from his faith in Allah
They say, "If we return to al-Madinah, the more honored [for power] will surely expel therefrom the more humble." And to Allah belongs [all]
honor, and to His Messenger, and to the believers, but the hypocrites do not know. [munafiqoon 63:8]
Those who forsakes his religion, and jihad and becomes preoccupied with this world
…Allah will set humiliation upon you, and He will not remove it until you return to your religion-sahih abu Dawood
Indeed, those who do not expect the meeting with Us and are satisfied with the life of this world and feel secure therein and those who are
heedless of Our signs. For those their refuge will be the Fire because of what they used to earn [Younus 10:7-8]
15. NEXT…
1. Defending against enemy aggression
a) For disbelievers to attack persecute, within their own lands, who
live among them
b) For disbelievers to leave their homeland and attack muslims in their
lands
c) For the enemy to oppress its own disbelieving citizens
d) For disbelievers to prevent muslims from spreading the message of
Islam
Editor's Notes
Whoever dies without fighting and without saying to his soul that he intends to do so, dies upon one of the branches of hypocrisy [Muslim]
