Why mind reading computer?
What is mind reading computer?
 The team in the Computer Laboratory at the University of Cambridge has
developed Mind Reading Machines-Computers.
 Drawing inspiration from psychology, computer vision & machine learning
has developed mind-reading machines computers.
 Analyzes a person’s facial expressions in real time & infers that person’s
underlying mental state.
 Software from Neven vision identifies 24 feature points on the face and
tracks them in real time.
 For example, a combination of head node, with a smile and raised
eyebrows might means interest.
What is Mind Reading Computer?
Why mind reading computer?
 Presents information about your mental state easily as a keyboard
and a mouse present text and commands. Imagine a future where we
are surrounded with mobile phones, cars and online services that can
read our mind and react to our mood.
 To support on-line shopping and learning systems.
 Used to monitor and suggest improvements in human-human
interaction.
How does it work?
Futuristic Head Band:
 Measures the volume and oxygen level of the blood around the
subjects brain, using technology called functional near-infrared
spectroscopy(FNIRS).
 Measures mental workload, frustration and distraction is typically
limited to qualitatively observing computer users.
 The user wears a futuristic head band that sends light in that
spectrum into the tissues of the head where it is absorbed by
active,blood filled tissues.
Advantages
 Can read minds.
 Help paralytic patients, Comma patients.
 Help Handicapped people.
 Help people who cant speak.
 Can be used for military purposes & sting operations.
 Eliminate the capability to lie.
Disadvantages
 Breaks the privacy.
 Can extract,through an individual,an important,secure &
confidential information of individual, state or even a country.
 If developed or used by sinners, can be highly dangerous.
 Eavesdropping.
 No way to neutralize this technology.
Conclusion
 Tufts university researches have begun a 3 year research project
which,if successful, will allow computers to respond to the brain
activity of the computer’s users.
 The new results could one day have applications for helping people,
such as those who cannot speak or have trouble communicating,
express their thoughts.
