The report recommends sending new recruits from small-scale fire departments in Central Texas to the hybrid version of the TEEX Fire Academy based on its facilities, equipment, and certifications offered. Though it has the highest cost of $5,700, TEEX's hybrid program provides extensive hands-on training opportunities through its superior training facilities and props over 111 days, while still offering IFSAC and Pro Board Firefighter I & II certifications. While slightly more expensive, its rigorous training better prepares firefighters for life-threatening situations compared to other area academies.

11. Conclusions
• After reviewing and comparing TEEX Fire
Academy (Full Course & Hybrid), Northeast
Fire Academy, and Texas Fire Academy we
found many factors that differ between each
academy. They each differ in cost and
certifications, time to complete, and what
facilities are provided at each location.
12. Recommendations
• The best recommendation to the smaller scale fire departments of
Central Texas is to put their recruits through the Online/Hybrid version
of TEEX Fire Academy.
• This is because TEEX’s Hybrid Fire Academy offers the critical training it
takes to keep a firefighter safe and prepared on the job. Its superior
training facilities, props, and equipment allows recruits to be
introduced to a number of powerful scenarios and situations that
Northeast Texas Fire Academy and Texas Fire Academy cannot provide.
• TEEX’s Hybrid Academy takes only slightly longer to complete than the
full course but provides the flexibility of an online course while recruits
receive the same certifications plus IFSAC Firefighter I&II, and it is still
92 days shorter than Texas Fire Academy.
• Yes, at $5,700 it is the most expensive option, however, in the fire
service training is not the place to cut corners. Proper and vigorous
training saves the lives of firefighters.

Editor's Notes
In 2013, a total of 97 on-duty firefighter deaths in the U.S. (National Fire Protection Agency)
“Fire Fighting and the Influence on the Body” - “During the exercises in the training buildings, a mean of 48°C [118.4°F] has been measured between fire fighters' clothing and work wear. These conditions lead to an increase of the relative humidity in all the jackets up to 100%.”
Training should not be taken lightly and as stated by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, a career in firefighting requires “long term on the job training.”
Improving the safety of our firefighters begins with the basic training cadets receive at the fire academy they attend.
These are the top 3 open Fire Academies in the State of Texas
They each offer similar but different style courses.
Some academies offer Hybrid Courses, others are full in class lecture/ hands on.
Which fire academy best suits the department and sending recruits and the recruits themselves for training?
There were several methods or tasks in deciding which fire academy was the “best” option for small fire departments to send their new recruits.
Gather pricing for each of the fire academies and what certifications it gets you.
Research each academy to compare the facilities, equipment, and props of each.
Gather class lecture hours, live/hands-on training, and overall course length.
Compile all researched data and provide an overall best choice fire academy for fire departments without their own facilities to send their cadets for training.
Both TEEX academies you receive the IFSAC Fire Fighter I&II certs that you do not earn in the others
You also receive:
Hazardous materials certifications
