About Mowgli in Lebanon: Mentoring entrepreneurs
1. About Mowgli Lebanon
Supporting and empowering Lebanese entrepreneurs
Mowgli’s mission in Lebanon and across the MENA region is to provide mentors who inspire,
support and empower entrepreneurs in achieving their business and personal potential,
encouraging sustainable job creation and social and economic development.
The need for entrepreneurship and growth in Lebanon
The MENA region, as demonstrated by the events of the Arab Spring in early 2011, is in urgent
need of support to bring aspiration and opportunity to its youthful population, many of whom are
educated and with immense potential, but without work or prospects. Lebanon still suffers from
high unemployment rates, particularly among young people (26%).1 Empowering young Lebanese
men and women to own and shape their own lives and businesses is the primary objective of our
programmes, and of our partners in Lebanon, including the
Berytech incubators (for technological businesses). Mentored
entrepreneurs learn to grow their businesses sustainably,
create jobs, and go on to mentor others, creating long term
and meaningful impact; the relationships created are
valuable and long-lasting, creating beneficial mutual
understanding.

Mowgli Lebanon: our history and impact
Mowgli Lebanon was launched in 2010 and we have supported 13 entrepreneurs through the
complete programme to date, with another 20 currently involved in the year-long programme,
making 33 Mowgli Lebanon entrepreneurs in total- who have created more than 30 jobs between
them to date2. Because of the continued need for jobs and growth in the Lebanese economy, the
difficulty of outreaching to rural and deprived communities, and the need to drive participation in
enterprise of young women, Mowgli MENA continues to give high priority to work in Lebanon and
we are planning to support at least 20 more entrepreneurs in Lebanon in the remainder of
FY2011/12. Working with the kind support of the Body Shop Foundation and partnering with
microfinance agencies and others in the entrepreneurship support ecosystem, we are giving a
high priority to female entrepreneurs, social enterprises, and micro-enterprises to ensure a robust
programme of support that delivers holistic, sustainable economic development across Lebanon.
