3. Widespread Debt:
● Repayment of loans and real estate values collapsed
● Result: shortage of coinage in circulation as people hoarded whatever they
had
● Property must be accepted for repayment as its pre-war value
● Cancelled all interest payments due since 49 BC
● Debt was not eliminated, but it was reduced to where lenders and
borrowers were satisfied
4. Widespread Unemployment:
● Poor were offered a new life in overseas colonies
● Caesar cut the supply of free grain
● Arranged for better supervision of the city’s grain supply
● Construction of new public buildings
