When it comes to taking care of our pets we
have to be really careful and have to understand
their needs and requirements. Chinchillas which
are mostly found in the South American
continent also have many requirements and
therefore if you want to take care of your
chinchilla than you have to understand their
body structure and what exactly is required to keep them healthy.
Normally, these chinchillas look like squirrels but they are very different
from them and therefore you need to look for chinchilla care
information so that you can take better care of them.
If you have a chinchilla than make sure that the cage is a little bigger
than the normal cages as these rodents are agile and keeping them in a
confine space is not good for their health. Chinchillas need extensive
exercise and therefore you need to make a cage that has more running
space for them. Also when you are designing a cage for your pet make
sure that the temperature of the cage is balanced because extreme
temperatures can affect your chinchilla’s health and they can easily get
a heatstroke which is not a good sign. The reason why they easily get a
heatstroke is because chinchillas don’t sweat and therefore the heat
inside their body keeps on increasing if the cage is too compact and
there is no sufficient air flow to cool the body.
Though, chinchillas are agile and they move around very quickly and
they are excellent jumpers their body structure is very fragile. Hence,
you need to handle them very carefully because if you put pressure on
their soft body chances of body damage are higher. If you want to pull

and put your one hand below the chinchilla so that your pet gets a
perfect support. Many people often grab their chinchillas wrongly and
pull them by the tail which can be disastrous as it could damage or
break the delicate vertebrae of the pet.
Chinchilla teeth are unlike any other pets that you have so you have to
pay special attention to their teeth all the time. Chinchilla teeth keeps
on growing continuously and therefore you will need to wear them
down so that they are able to eat their food properly. Excessive growth
of teeth can create problems and your pet will not be able to consume
the food properly. They need something to chew all the time so you can
give them some wooden sticks and chewy toys available in the market.
However, avoid anything that has citrus in it because they will not be
able to handle food with high amount of resins and oils.
Chinchillas are very clean rodents and they prefer to be that way, but
that does not mean that you bathe them with water. You can get a
specially-made dust available in the market and spread that in the cage.
Your chinchilla will appreciate a nice dust bath that will work like a
magic on his fur-filled body.
