Origin’s
Chapter 1
Twas a time long ago by my account, say about One Hundred Million years ago or so. A race of
people known for their wisdom and knowledge developed on a planet known as Celestis. They were a
space faring race, conquering space and time itself in the form of science and fact. Because of their great
knowledge many more primitive races they met viewed them as gods. Though they always corrected
this misunderstanding there were those who viewed themselves as gods to these people, who in time
would come to cause a rift in their great society, leading from fact and science to religion and worship.
As the years passed and the supporters of this radical group known as the Ori grew, the peace and
knowledge loving group, The Alterran’s, became outnumbered. The Ori hunted their Alterran brethren
for openly opposing their belief that they were gods. The Alterran’s came to a unanimous decision to
leave the world of Celestis for new worlds outside the control and influence of the Ori. Over the next
few years in secret and seclusion the Alterran people designed and built a new kind of ship with a new
kind of Faster than light travel device. On the eve of their leaving, many scientists came together to
discuss using an item to make the people see that the Ori were not truly gods. The council rejected the
idea without a second thought, “We would be no better than the Ori if we used our science to force
people to believe. It would go against everything we are and have worked for.” With whose final words
the counsel gathered their things and started the engine of their ship.
A terrible rumbling was heard across Celestis. Mountains shook and cracked. Finally one came
crumbling down to reveal the ship. It appeared to hover there for a moment, looming over the
mountains. The people who watched were frightened, The Ori watched in triumph. With a great blast
the mountain shattered apart ripping any trace that the Alterran people were ever there, as the craft
lifted into the heavens and out of sight. The Ori stood tall and shouted so all could hear, “Behold the will
of the Ori, Behold the Evil has been driven from this place! Rejoice!! All Hail The Ori!!”
The Alterran’s knew there was no planet in their galaxy that was safe for them from the Ori, so
they set in a course for a nearby galaxy. The journey took only a few weeks with their new Intergalactic
Hyper drive. Once in this new galaxy they started searching for habitable planets. As they conducted
their search they were approached by a ship. The vessel was small in comparison to theirs. It took only a
moment for an incoming communication from the alien vessel. Unsure if either race would understand
each other’s language they sat face to face showing no disrespect and no harmful intent. It was the
Alterran’s who first learned to speak the language of the beings of this galaxy. Through this means they
in turn learned the Language of the Alterran’s. This process was a slow one to be sure, but effective in
opening dialogue with the aliens, now known as the Asguard. They were a highly advanced civilization
like the Alterran’s. Tall and slender, light grey with small black eyes, no visible hair on their bodies and a
large cranium.
2. Over time the two great races would form an alliance. Together they populated and developed
hundreds of worlds. Fleets of ships were created and sent out into the cosmos seeding habitable planets
with a new device that allows near instantaneous travel between worlds using artificial wormholes in
subspace. It became known as the Astra Porta or Stargate. With this link between worlds now even the
distance between galaxies didn’t seem so great anymore. What once took weeks in ships to cross would
now take minutes. Through reverse engineering they applied the same technology to their hyper drives.
Now what took weeks before would now take minutes or hours. The only flaw in the design however
was it required vast amounts of energy to create this Intergalactic hyperspace window. The process for
turning a raw substance into an energy delivering substance was not enough. Alterran and Asguard
astrophysists began working on a device that would draw power from the random elements in
subspace. One experiment failed in practical testing, the result was both devastating and horrifying.
Research on the subject was banned due to the loss of the solar system the experiment was
conducted in. One young researcher however did not know when to take no for an answer. Taking his
private ship to an uninhabited star system he set up a small lab. Instead of taking particles from
subspace he used a device focused through crystal to energize the crystal and also making an artificial
pocket in subspace. The Crystal acted as a focal point for the particles of unstable energy in the
subspace pocket. The result became almost unlimited energy. To be sure this wasn’t a fluke, he did his
experiment three hundred more times all with the same results. When he was finally confident he
presented his finding to the counsel who sternly punished him and also praised him for his remarkable
discovery.
