When Mounir Neamatalla, President of the private Egyptian firm Environmental Quality International (EQI), first set eyes on the Siwa Oasis in 1995, in the Matrouh region of Egypt in the Sahara desert, he was enthralled. Neamatalla, a consultant who had studied environmental management at Columbia University, was visiting the oasis on a project for the Canadian Development Agency. He was struck by the fact that, with a few anachronisms, the community he was visiting could easily have been the one described by Herodotus 2,500 years earlier. Here was an ideal fit with EQI’s mandate to promote sustainable development projects wherever the opportunity beckoned. Where others saw poverty and isolation, Neamatalla saw riches: a culture, tradition and heritage untouched by the passage of time.
Over the years that followed, EQI designed and implemented a number of commercial ventures aimed at promoting economic development in Siwa—one that would be in harmony with Siwa’s environment and that would revitalise its unique cultural heritage. EQI's approach was to draw on the old wisdom, traditional skills and creativity of the local community, and complement them with modern know-how to develop Siwa into a model of sustainable development that could serve as a source of inspiration for other communities around the world. Some of these ventures are currently being replicated by EQI in other parts of the region.

The United Arab Emirates is among the leading economic hubs in the Middle East, among its major trading items, it is known for its booming oil industry that has led to an influx of foreign workers in the country. However, recently there have been attempts to diversify its economy by making the country less dependent on oil, and this has seen the country investing in other industries such as the tourism sector and the construction industry (Shihab, 2012). Perhaps worth noting and for purposes of international trade, Dubai, the economic hub of UAE has been ranked only behind Hong Kong and Singapore as the third largest export center in the region. This has seen the UAE emerge as the leading among the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) regarding exports basing on commodities such as electrical appliances and electronics, stones and precious metals.
While attempting to diversify its economy, another item that represents an enormous opportunity for trade and investment activities is the date industry. The value of dates and other fruits and other perishable items as products of international trade is fast gaining prominence in the UAE and the entire Middle East. This trend has seen the emergence of the International Perishables Expo Middle East with the latest one being the WOP DUBAI 2016 held between the 13 to 15th November at the World Trade Center, Dubai. This activity has proven hugely successful with nearly 91% of all exhibitions culminating into successful businesses after such shows; it shows the tremendous potential that the fresh fruit and perishables industry has in the UAE and the entire Middle East and this if well exploited can result in significant financial successes.
Dates production is known to thrive in hot, arid regions like North Africa with the Middle East, and specifically, the UAE being an ideal producer as it has the perfect climate for this fruit. Dates are marketed all over the world as a high-value crop and are also a major subsistence crop in the arid area (Arias, 2002). Recent studies have shown that most of the dates produced in such regions are consumed locally, and investments need to be done to make it possible for the crop to be traded internationally by exporting it to other countries in the global market. This process will require the state to invest more in the preservation of the plant due to its perishability and investing in varieties better suited for export purposes. With nearly 90% of the world date production concentrated in North Africa and the Middle East, the demand for the crop in the region is small and it is essential for the UAE to seek .

Neamatalla, a consultant who had studied environmental management at Columbia University, was visiting the oasis on a project for the Canadian Development Agency. Here was an ideal fit with EQI’s mandate to promote sustainable development projects wherever the opportunity beckoned. Where others saw poverty and isolation, Neamatalla saw riches: a culture, tradition and heritage untouched by the passage of time.
Over the years that followed, EQI designed and implemented a number of commercial ventures aimed at promoting economic development in Siwa—one that would be in harmony with Siwa’s environment and that would revitalise its unique cultural heritage. EQI's approach was to draw on the old wisdom, traditional skills and creativity of the local community, and complement them with modern know-how to develop Siwa into a model of sustainable development that could serve as a source of inspiration for other communities around the world. Some of these ventures are currently being replicated by EQI in other parts of the region.
Egypt
The past few decades have seen Egypt move from a pan-Arabic, largely socialist state at war with Israel, to an increasingly market-oriented anchor of stability in a troubled region. As one of two Arab countries that have forged peace with Israel, Egypt has played an important role in promoting dialogue between Israel and its Arab neighbours.The North African country is one of the largest recipients of American aid. In 2008, it was slated to receive $1.3 billion in military aid and another $415 million in economic assistance. With a population of 80 million, it is home to one in four Arabs.
The population of Egypt is concentrated along the Nile river banks and is urbanizing fast as rural inhabitants pour into the main cities of Cairo and Alexandria. From 43 million in 1980 to nearly 80 million in 2005, it is estimated by the UN to reach 100 million by the 2020s. Population density is among the world’s highest. The urban population accounts for 42% of the total and is growing at a rate of 1.8% per annum. Farming represents 29% of GDP, industry 22%, and services 49%..

The United Arab Emirates is among the leading economic hubs in the Middle East, among its major trading items, it is known for its booming oil industry that has led to an influx of foreign workers in the country. However, recently there have been attempts to diversify its economy by making the country less dependent on oil, and this has seen the country investing in other industries such as the tourism sector and the construction industry (Shihab, 2012). Perhaps worth noting and for purposes of international trade, Dubai, the economic hub of UAE has been ranked only behind Hong Kong and Singapore as the third largest export center in the region. This has seen the UAE emerge as the leading among the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) regarding exports basing on commodities such as electrical appliances and electronics, stones and precious metals.
While attempting to diversify its economy, another item that represents an enormous opportunity for trade and investment activities is the date industry. The value of dates and other fruits and other perishable items as products of international trade is fast gaining prominence in the UAE and the entire Middle East. This trend has seen the emergence of the International Perishables Expo Middle East with the latest one being the WOP DUBAI 2016 held between the 13 to 15th November at the World Trade Center, Dubai. This activity has proven hugely successful with nearly 91% of all exhibitions culminating into successful businesses after such shows; it shows the tremendous potential that the fresh fruit and perishables industry has in the UAE and the entire Middle East and this if well exploited can result in significant financial successes.
Dates production is known to thrive in hot, arid regions like North Africa with the Middle East, and specifically, the UAE being an ideal producer as it has the perfect climate for this fruit. Dates are marketed all over the world as a high-value crop and are also a major subsistence crop in the arid area (Arias, 2002). Recent studies have shown that most of the dates produced in such regions are consumed locally, and investments need to be done to make it possible for the crop to be traded internationally by exporting it to other countries in the global market. This process will require the state to invest more in the preservation of the plant due to its perishability and investing in varieties better suited for export purposes. With nearly 90% of the world date production concentrated in North Africa and the Middle East, the demand for the crop in the region is small and it is essential for the UAE to seek .

LAND USE LAND COVER AND NDVI OF MIRZAPUR DISTRICT, UP
This Dissertation explores the particular circumstances of Mirzapur, a region located in the
core of India. Mirzapur, with its varied terrains and abundant biodiversity, offers an optimal
environment for investigating the changes in vegetation cover dynamics. Our study utilizes
advanced technologies such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and Remote sensing to
analyze the transformations that have taken place over the course of a decade.
The complex relationship between human activities and the environment has been the focus
of extensive research and worry. As the global community grapples with swift urbanization,
population expansion, and economic progress, the effects on natural ecosystems are becoming
more evident. A crucial element of this impact is the alteration of vegetation cover, which plays a
significant role in maintaining the ecological equilibrium of our planet.Land serves as the foundation for all human activities and provides the necessary materials for
these activities. As the most crucial natural resource, its utilization by humans results in different
'Land uses,' which are determined by both human activities and the physical characteristics of the
land.
The utilization of land is impacted by human needs and environmental factors. In countries
like India, rapid population growth and the emphasis on extensive resource exploitation can lead
to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover.
Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many
centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have
accelerated due to factors such as agriculture and urbanization. Information regarding land use and
cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,
providing crucial environmental data for scientific, resource management, policy purposes, and
diverse human activities.
Accurate understanding of land use and cover is imperative for the development planning
of any area. Consequently, a wide range of professionals, including earth system scientists, land
and water managers, and urban planners, are interested in obtaining data on land use and cover
changes, conversion trends, and other related patterns. The spatial dimensions of land use and
cover support policymakers and scientists in making well-informed decisions, as alterations in
these patterns indicate shifts in economic and social conditions. Monitoring such changes with the
help of Advanced technologies like Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems is
