OVERVIEW OUTLINE
Adele loves the craziness of life in the city. The
morning after her wild night out she wakes feeling hung
over. It becomes a apparent that there is a dominant
change in her behaviour/personality. The battle between
Adele and her alter ego get increasingly more violent as
the film develops. The line between sane and insane is
thin as Adele seems to become her alter ego. The dark
personality of her other half direct Adele into madness
and instability in her life causing paranoia, insecurity
and an intense battle with her second personalities.
OUTLINE
1. Begging: Adele wakes feeling rough and not herself.
She looks into the mirror feeling she is not the
same person she was the night before
2. Middle: At the peak of her battle Adele is forced to
commit acts she wouldn’t have done as her usual self
3. End: Adele try’s to over through her alter ego for
good
4. SYNOPSIS
Adele has been dreaming the same dream every night for
the past three weeks. Every time she sleeps a different
part of the story is dreamt. She wakes from these dreams
sweating, scared and panicked but can never remember what
happens in them. These dreams (we later discover) are
events in which have taken place by Adele’s split
personality Harriet. When Harriet is exposed, Adele is
entrapped within her body not being able to control
Harriet’s actions.
Leading a life of two people she later finds her self in
battle with her other half. Fighting for her moral
beliefs it becomes clear that Harriet is the personality
in which is more dominant in Adele making her loose touch
with reality as she is seen as being insane
The departure of her dad also appears throughout her
dreams in the film showing that his absence could have
been a catalyst to her disorder (we do not find out why
her dad has left until the very end)
Her mother noticing a change in her daughter’s behaviour
tells her she must sort herself out and get a grip on
reality. Harriet responds badly to this and strikes her
mother. Realising her strength over her mother she uses
this to her ability to take over the house
Not only is there battle between Harriet and Adele but
now there’s a battle between them both and Adele’s
mother. Being kept prisoner in her own home Adele’s
mother becomes increasingly ill as she hasn’t eaten
properly for weeks and hasn’t been able to move as
Harriet injects her daily with drugs repeatedly telling
her “you ruined my life so now I’m going to ruin yours”
A battle for survival at the end is shown through a
struggle between Harriet and Adele’s mother. Harriet’s
face looks deranged and her eyes barely any white left in
them pure evil radiating through. As she goes to finish
off her mother sitting infront of her with a gun her
father returns and strikes her with an ornament, harriet
falls to the ground. The mother fitting out the mouth
dies and harriet has what she wanted, her mother dead.
5. Harriet wakes as Adele (Harriet has been defeated) the
father is standing over her body with the barrel of the
gun pointed at her face. Adele is left confused weeping
and crying. Her father standing there is lead to believe
she killed her mother when in fact it was Harriet, Adele
knows nothing about this and bales out when she notices
her mothers dead and abused body. her dead with tears in
his eyes puts the gun down as her realises her despair.
Adele stands up and has flash backs of the film in her
head rushing fast enough not to be distinguished. She
snaps out of it looks at her father and then at her
mother takes the gun and pulls the trigger. The audience
is left on a cliff hanger as the do not know who has been
shot.
