Since the Asian Studies Prigram follows the typical calender of overseas
institutions in nothern hemisphier, there are some periods when there are few
local students on campus. During those periods, there are student organozed
events to provide international students with the opportunity to meet and
interact with local students.

I would recommend KGU because it is in
such a convenient location. It’s right in the
middle of Osaka and Kyoto, two of the best
places to visit and explore in Japan, and
nearby to other popular cities such as Nara
and Kobe. One of the biggest reasons most
people want to study abroad is because
they want to travel and explore new places,
and so KGU is an ideal school.

My second year comprised a study
abroad programme in Japan, with the
aim of developing both my written and
spoken Japanese. This led me to take
up study at Kansai Gaidai, and I never
looked back.
Before leaving the UK, I was apprehensive due to the fact that I had only
started studying Japanese 10 months

upon arriving, it soon became clear that
KGU 2012
Kansai Gaidai was the perfect environment to allow one’s Japanese to develop

during contact hours with teachers, coupled with the fact
that I made so many Japanese friends who were more
than willing to help really aided my path to learning the
language.
On top of the challenge of speaking and writing Japanese,
a year in Japan provided so much more. I lived with a
local Japanese family in Osaka, which opened the door
to so mant insightful experiences of Japanese culture.
The bond that grew between us surprised me, and being
welcomed into their family as one of their own was a
blessing. Finally, outside of the classroom, I was able to
take up a position teaching English in various language
schools across Osaka. The position was well-paid, and
provided welcome finanical aid for my time in Japan.

Most of international students usually prepare more than 50000
yen since many of them go on a trip. However, it really depends
on how individuals live.
JAPANESE LANGUAGE COURSES
-Spoken Japanese
Focuses on the daily usage of the language.
-Reading and Writing Japanese
Focuses on the grammar and the Kanji.
-7 different levels that cover from no previous
experience in Japanese to a level above the actual N1.
For future students...
I really love it here at KGU! KGU offers a
lot of opportunities to see parts of Japan or
participate in activities that you may have
missed If you did not look for it. I feel that
KGU is a great choice if you are not too
confident with your Japanese and don’t
want to be thrown in the dark. Most of the
time, my Japanese friends want to speak English with me. In time, we decided that they

My advice for students is to get a speaking partner. KGU offers
a program where they set you up with a Japanese partner and
you guys get together to do whatever you both plan. Sometimes it doesn’t work out with you and your partner, but I was
fortunate enough to have an amazing parter! However, KGU
may run out of parters so apply early!
There are a lot of opportunities here at KGU! Take advantage
of everything they have to offer!
