What does this mean?
In a fair society we might expect company profits, pay for top executives and pay for ordinary workers
to increase at broadly the same rate. But this graph shows that big company profits are increasing far
faster than ordinary workers’ wages, while bosses’ pay is growing faster still. Since 2000, CEO pay
has grown five times quicker than that of the average full-time UK worker. (In fact ordinary workers’
wages have fallen in recent years, once inflation is taken into account.) Those at the top are grabbing
a bigger share than they deserve, while the rest of the workforce fall further behind.
