What is folksonomy in ICT?
Folksonomy is the process of using digital content tags for categorization or annotation. It allows users to classify websites, pictures, documents and other forms of data so that content may be easily categorized and located by users.
Metadata - a set of data that describes and gives information about other data.
Users do not deliberately create folksonomies and there is rarely a prescribed purpose, but a folksonomy evolves when many users create or store content at particular sites and identify what they think the content is about.
An example of a broad folksonomy is
Social bookmarking is the process of tagging a website page with a browser-based tool so that you can easily visit it again later.
(e.g., a user can "click" on an image to enlarge it or find out more information)
