1. DEVELOPMENT AND GRANT
WRITER SPECIALIST
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Under general supervision of the Executive Director, assist in researching, developing and
submitting grant or similar funding applications to private and governmental sources for
projects and programs. Participate in planning and developing grant proposals or similar
funding requests to obtain additional funding.
2. Involves: reviewing and researching literature dealing with funds available from private, local,
state and federal sources to determine whether requirements for applying for funds are met;
conferring with personnel affected by proposed programs to:
Establish objectives and develop plans to implement, Outline how funds are to be used,
Discuss program requirements and explain procedures necessary to obtain funding,
3. Creating and implementing opportunities to involve potential corporate and foundation
donors; participating in cooperative projects between the corporation and other organizations;
meeting with representatives of funding sources to work out final details of proposal.
4. Assist in writing grant proposals; grant administration and participate in monitoring programs
and projects. Compiling and analyzing data related to proposed projects;
Submitting applications to funding agencies or foundations upon approval of the Executive
Director and Board of Directors;
Observing and evaluating program activities and recommending changes as appropriate;
Preparing or assisting department personnel to prepare periodic reports to comply with
grant/funding requirements;
Monitoring grant budgets;
Assist in identifying payments for services in accordance with contract provisions;
Maintaining records related to grant funded programs.
5. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
1. Considerable knowledge of: grant and report writing. Good knowledge of: private, local, state
and federal funding sources; grant program coordination methods and techniques; budget
preparation and control.
2. Newsletter preparation.
3. Ability to plan, develop and coordinate grant programs.
4. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, private
and governmental funding organizations and their representatives, the media, officials and
the general public.
5. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing in order to prepare and
deliver presentations to individuals and groups
6. Ability to complete successful grant applications; maintain records and prepare reports.

2. Requirements:
1. Degree from an accredited college or university in Business, Public
Administration or related field and two (2) years of professional experience in
writing, project development, or business administration including preparation of
various loan or grant applications, contracts or similar documents.
Graduate coursework in Business Administration, Public or a related field may
substitute for up to one year of required professional experience.
Continuing education credits or other related training may substitute for up to six
months of required professional experience.
The combination of the aforementioned educational credits may not exceed one
year of required professional experience.
Applicants without the above-stated educational requirement may substitute
experience of a similar professional nature, at the rate of 18 months experience
for each year of the required education.
2. Knowledge and experience with Microsoft applications (Word, Outlook, Excel,
Publisher, Power Point).
3. Minimum typing skills of 45 words per minute
4. Spreadsheet skills in designing simple databases and basic mathematical
functions
5. Knowledge and experience in utilizing the Internet and Microsoft applications.
6. Ability to interpret grant application instructions and write a successful grant
application
7. Participate in and maintain drug free environment
