Love Is A Battlefield By Dominic Tierney
Love is a Battlefield The article written in by Dominic Tierney, an associate professor of political
science at Swarthmore, wrote an article based on the tactics of love and war. His general idea
focused on how relationships are wars of love, which either lead to unity or distractions. Tierney's
analytical approach to the relationship both within war and love are seen as investments of trust,
which "take a long time to build and an instant to destroy." The focus of my concern is when the
article speaks of these relationships becoming states of danger for militant and partners. Either
communities no longer feel safe, which results in rationalization or withdrawal from the battles of
war and love. Through the ending of a toxic situation,

Battlefield Vs. Call Of Duty Game
BATTLEFIELD VERSUS CALL OF DUTY
The Battlefield franchise is one of the top selling shooter games of all times. It is best known for its
real–life recreation of all–out war. This game is a first–person shooter team based game. Almost like
an arcade game with the guns on the side of it. Since 2002 the game has been loved by those who
consider themselves game players. Battlefield was different from any other game you could know.
Most shooter games are individual based, but what makes Battlefield different is you must work
with a team. For example, flag football is a team based game you need everyone doing their part to
capture the flag. No one has ever seen a game which required team effort online with random people
before in the history of video gaming. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Within these franchises, they both accommodate the needs of gender without any bias stereotypes.
The game is an interactive shooting game video game, which will contribute to the history of those
individuals within the industry. Activision is the company that created this game. This franchise is
known for its fast–paced online multiplayer games. Multiplayer is where you play with other players
that have the same game as you (It is like playing chess online).
With Call of Duty, you can talk to a person constantly with no wait within the game which requires a
microphone? Nevertheless, with Call of Duty you are a lone wolf by yourself without anyone
actively playing or interaction with others. You as a player must decide what's best for you even
though you are on a team. Think about the saying "Every man for themselves "there the title
provides the individual with insight or prior knowledge about this particular game. It is a war game,
but it is more on a smaller scale it is not based on real life more on lines of a dream or an action

The War On The Battlefield
Wars aren't fought in a vacuum, and those who study the Civil War should know this. While the
Confederacy lost the war on the battlefield, a failure to exam the social and political climate before
the first shot fired on Fort Sumter and the furling of the CSS Shenandoah's Confederate Navy
Ensign– the war's final surrender– does not capture the war's impact on the nation. Certainly, one
can't discuss a war and never mention a battle. The field's foundation is in traditional military
history, but I feel more comfortable discussing social history topics. When I began the semester, I
felt I was staunchly in the social history camp. I wanted nothing to do with regiments, charges, and
invasion routes. When I wrote the first paper on this same ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The process of defining what kind of Civil War historian that you are is a fluid process that needs to
reevaluated as you become exposed to more information. The first book we read this semester was
Paul Quigley's Shifting Grounds: Nationalism and the American South, 1848–1865. Quigley's work
focuses primarily on the formation of Southern nationalism during the complex years before
secession and Fort Sumter. Only the final chapters examines the years 1861–1865. I appreciated
Quigley's framing of Southern nationalism within an international context. This goes against the
southern exceptionalism trend that tends to permeates any study of the American South. Quigley's
assertion the nationalism was a cause rather than an effect of succession is correct in my estimation.
However, if the book is going to be considered a work about the Civil War, more than one chapter of
it should deal with the ebb and flow of nationalism during the war itself. As a historian, I feel that
establishing the origins of Confederate nationalism is an important part of understanding the
Confederate war effort on the battlefield and on the home front, but as a historian, I'd like to see it
evaluated more thoroughly during the War itself (Quigley). The second work our class read this
semester was literature scholar Randall Fuller's From Battlefields Rising. Fuller attempted to exam
the manner in which Civil War changed the view of America's

Love Battlefield Metaphors
Over the course of our lives we have heard many different metaphors and noticed their societal
effects. One metaphor that people consider thought–provoking is that "love is a battlefield". People
consider it thought–provoking because "love is a battlefield" can be thought of in many situations.
Two situations that can be related to this metaphor include a struggle within a group and also a
struggle within oneself. The first example of a struggle within a group could be when two people are
fighting for the love of one person. This metaphor can be perceived in this situation in a way that
when they are fighting each other, it is really the love they have for that third person or ideal
fighting. A second example of a struggle within a group is when people in the group support
different sports teams. There are some groups that take this conflict seriously. One of the most
popular rivalries known around the Cincinnati area is the Xavier and U.C rivalry. "Love is a
battlefield" can be perceived in this situation as the fans love for the sports teams competing ...

One effect of this alternate metaphor is the fact that it makes people believe that love is something
that you can just talk about with someone or a group while "love is a battlefield" makes you believe
that love is something you have to fight for. Some adjectives that come to mind when you read "love
is a natural force" are: normal, friendly, and cooperative. However, adjectives that come to mind
when you think about "love is a battlefield" are: anger, frustration, and regret. One example of "love
is a natural force" is the regular feeling of love that you have for your family. When you are around
family, you feel like they are looking after you and the love towards them feels natural and just
flows out. So while "love is a battlefield" expresses the idea that love sometimes requires conflict
"love is a natural force" just comes

Argumentative Essay: The Battlefield In Canada
As the plane wasn't leaving until 2:45pm and the Airport is only a half hour from Gatineau, why
wouldn't a person drop into Edgar for lunch? You know . . . A couple of paninis, one composed of
two slices of French toast packed with ham and cheese, squash–baked in the panini press and served
under a generous splash of maple syrup; and one filled with roast pork slices, peaches and cheese
and toasted to perfection. Then it is only a matter of two lemon–curd stuffed beignets "apporté" and

The area is marked with a pathway through which one is invited to walk and view the specific points
of interest of the battle between General Custer's 7th Cavalry and the Sioux and Cheyenne. There is

authenticity, several rangers designated to deliver explanations and a lot of practiced monologue,
and a film room where approximately 50 patrons can be seated to view a recorded narrative and
hundreds of stills composed in something of a slide show. Outside there is a massive graveyard
where veterans of many campaigns from the Indian wars through Vietnam, quietly sleep through the
final resting place, although Custer's remains were exhumed many years ago and buried at

Research Paper: Nurses on the Battlefield
War is ruthless and no one is spared its wrath. Soldiers meet their end on the battlefield and in
hospitals where nurses must wage their own war. We all know about the nurses in hospitals and
local clinics, but what about the nurses who went to war back then and go to battle now with
soldiers. Today they may be called combat medics or relief personnel. Without medical staff in wars
and battles, we would lose a lot more troops to injuries obtained in combat. Every person in the
military is important and contributes their set of skills to ensure the lives of those around them.

Knowledge is power and if we do not know how to do something then how can it be done. Today,
armed forces acquire many individuals who offer a set of skills necessary to achieving victory.
Nurses just like everyone else in the military do not know what they are getting into until they are
experiencing it for themselves. "Nursing in war is a unique experience regardless of education,
preparation and training." (Scannell–Desch 3) As told by a military nurse in a survey, no amount of
training readies you for the harshness of combat. One other military nurse talks about her experience
in the military and how she learned through experience. "The skills I learned with all the traumas
were very beneficial. I got to do things as a nurse that I will probably never get to do again."
(Scannell–Desch 10) We as humans learn things every day to better ourselves and achieve more
things. War is one thing that can never be understood and so humans cannot learn from the mistakes
of war, but try different things in the hope of a different outcome. Nurses are not prepared for what
awaits them in emergency hospitals in a far off country during times of conflict. With every new
way humans find to kill each other, nurses must adapt in a harsh environment to deal with new
injuries. Skills are taught and refined on the battlefield if someone chooses the path that leads to
war. Nurses not only know how to treat physical injuries, but mental injuries as well. The most
significant psychological injury inflicted on soldiers is PTSD or Post–Traumatic Stress Disorder.
Military Nurses learn how to treat PTSD from nursing veterans who are treating the disorder today.
"Nurses involved in primary care and emergency nursing can learn much from the experiences of
those nurses who have worked with traumatic brain injuries (TBI), Post–Traumatic Stress Disorders
(PTSD), alcohol abuse and substance abuse as ineffective

Battlefield Medicine During The Civil War
If you were a soldier in the Battle of Gettysburg do you think that you would've survived? The battle
between the Union and the Confederacy lasted three days, from July 1, 1863 to July 3, 1863 and in
the end the Union was victorious. The Battle of Gettysburg was the bloodiest battle of the Civil War.
The medical knowledge and equipment that the surgeons had back then were no match the types of
illnesses and injuries that the soldiers had. The people that were that got shot during the Civil War,
either had to get a body part amputated, got their gunshot wound covered with a bandage, opened up
the wound to get the bullet out and then patch them up. Three people from The Killer Angels that
got shot and just got their wound wrapped with bandage were John Buford, Buster Kilrain, and a
runaway slave. John Buford who was thirty–seven years was the Brigadier General for the Union
and was a cavalry soldier. In the novel it states, "He had been hit once in the legs arm and the
bleeding had stopped but the genuine pain was just the beginning. They had wrapped the arm and
put his coat back on and he did not show injury"(146). Without proper inspection of the wound and
removing it, this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Our knowledge has increased on treatment. We are more sanitary than before. Before the equipment
was unwashed and reused so diseases would spread. Now we thoroughly wash our equipment and
wounds have a slimmer chance of infection. More equipment have been made to treat injuries. There
was less equipment to use back then so they would be low on supplies easily and faster. John
Buford, Buster Kilrain and the slave were all treated the same way. With the advances that we've
overtime since the Civil War the people who fought in the Battle of Gettysburg would have had a
better chance of survival, fewer risks of infection, disease prevention, and ways to deal with the

Antietam Battlefield
The second historical landmark that I went to was the Antietam Battlefield. Located in Sharpsburg,
Maryland, the battle of Antietam was a battle between the Union and Confederate armies during the
Civil War. The battle was fought on September 17, 1862, being called the "Bloodiest Day of
American History" with a total of roughly 23,000 men killed in battle. The Union army, led by
General George McClellan, defeated the Confederate Army, led by General Robert E. Lee, which is
surprising because while they passed the Potomac River, a piece of paper including the Union's
battle tactics was left behind by one of the Confederate members. The Union then passed by the
same spot weeks later and found this paper, which gave them the "advantage". 5 days ... Show more

The Battle of Antietam was a monumental win for the Union, and for the elimination of slavery. The
winning of the battle gave the Union a huge advantage over the Confederate, and this victory
pleased President Abraham Lincoln. Abraham Lincoln had been waiting for an appropriate time to
release the first edition of the Emancipation Proclamation, which meant that any and all slaves
working in the Confederacy were to be released. This victory was tragic for the Confederacy
because they lost all their slaves and they were at a severe disadvantage compared to the Union.
Another monumental event that impacted American history is the moment where the Union soldiers
discovered the Confederate's battle tactics. The tactics paper, called "Special Orders 191" written by
General Lee, was originally meant for General D. H. Hill, one of his other army leaders, but thanks
to someone's lack of focus, the plans were left behind and the Union was given the lead in the war.
One prominent place related to the Civil War and American History is Dunker Church. Dunker
Church was a building that resembled peace, love, modesty and positivity throughout its lifetime.
However, the night before the battle, the Confederate soldiers were stationed around the church.
This meant that the Union would have to attack the church, leaving it "battle–scarred". Dunker
Church was collateral damage to the war and it's also where both sides agreed to truce with each
other for this

Battlefield Medicine: The Vietnam War
Battlefield Medicine Civil War The Civil War that happened during the years of 1861–1865 was a
war that decided what kind of nation that America will be. The war determined whether or not this
nation that was born declaring that all men were created with an equal right to liberty, or if it would
continue to allow slavery and be the largest slaveholding country in the world. (McPherson). The
Unit at Fort Sumter in South Carolina was divided because of the issues of slavery and central
powers. About 620,000 men lost their lives while fighting for what they believed in. There were

Some people would get this during the Vietnam War. To treat Sepsis, you have to take multiple
medications including antibiotics and vasopressors. The antibiotic will fight against the disease
while the vasopressors will help increase your blood pressure. The second wound you can get on the
battlefield is a gunshot wound from a pistol or a rifle. One way to treat any gunshot wound, more
specifically in the arm or leg, is to apply direct pressure on the wound and to lift it above the heart to
stop the bleeding. Gunshot wounds were one of the most common injuries on the battlefield and

The At The Stones River Battlefield
On April 19th I recently decided to go to the Stones River Battlefield. In the beginning I honestly
was very interested in going to somewhere I had been to before, but then I realized that I could use
some new information in my life. I have recently be to the Parthenon in Nashville, and I like it there
also, but I am glad that I got the chance to go to the battlefield. However, when it comes to history a
part of me find it very hard to retain the information I have learned, and the other half of me see it
kind of boring. The more and more I visit places to see and do hands on things for myself, the more
it helps me understand what I have learned. With this being said, I am very glad to have attended the
battlefield.
Amongst my visit, I was a little confused on what I was doing, but I decided to get out of the car and
proceed walking to the building. When I entered the building there was a tall guy who greeted me,
he wore an outfit similar to a boys scout leader. He then asked me if it was my first time attending
and I said yes. There was a couple coming through the door, so he greeted them both and then told
us a little about the exhibit. He then instructed us on how to see all of the exhibit and gave us a
map/brochure. I then walked away and started to look around on my own. At first what caught my
attention is the models and some of the things written on the walls. I then noticed that even though I
was reading it, I was not retaining the information, so then I started to

I cannot remember a time when I was not in love with science. From a young age, I remember
searching through the internet to answer every question I had and asking my parents – both with

moment, I was hooked on learning and had a problem I wanted to solve.
This film opened me up to knowledge about viruses, bacteria, and other forms of pathogens. I
poured over research about the cruel virus, the line between life and death; the insidious bacteria,
proliferating and destroying cell after cell; and prions, simple in their destruction of the brain. I was

The Battlefield Of Finding Yourself
The Battlefield in finding yourself
Career planning is a lifelong battle that can be intricate for anyone who has not yet closely studied
their true drive in life. After completing high school, I had no idea what I wanted to do or what route
in my life I wanted or needed to go. At the time, I was undeveloped and living at home with my
parents. I did know one thing for sure, I had to work and make my own money in order to pay my
own bills and to stand on my own two feet as best as I could. I was not totally thinking about any
long term career goals. I was still going through the point in my life of finding what I loved to do
and was all about having fun and enjoying life. One thing I did know for sure, I loved to shop, then
again what adolescent doesn't. When I completed high school, I started out working in a very small
retail fashion store and then, later on, went into several different food chains such as McDonalds and
even tried waitressing for several months. Needless to say, waitressing turned out to be a calamity so
I left that turf and never returned. After drifting from job to job for several months which in turn
overextended into several years, I made a conscious decision that I needed to focus on a profession
and stick to it so I took some time and re–examined my life and zeroed in on a career. I finally did
that! In October of 2005, I enrolled in the Medical Assisting program at National Institute of
Technology which was sited in Austin, Texas. My choice to

"Battlefield" – an etude. Inspired by the recent events of February 2014 in Kiev, Ukraine. A vision...
a man is standing lit by a bleak sun under a grey sky... he stands at the crevice, which is filled with
body parts, which seem to be human but at the same time to have come from toy humans. A man
takes random people, pushes them towards this huge hole, throws them down... and they fall, slowly,
as if the rules of physics do not apply. Once they reach the bottom, they fall apart as unrealistically
as they were descending. One thing was clear – that man was killing all those random people. There

It is scary to realize that it is a war. A war in a place where I used to walk freely with friends, family,
and loved ones, not fearing for my own life. For this is downtown, crime activity is low here. Police

an enemy. It is immensely scary that everything has suddenly become so real: not just a piece of
news on television or the Internet, but a real time 3D experience, in which any wrong move can
result in the permanent final end of life, losing the privilege to find out how this war will end. I am

attempts to evaluate the defense of the body as well as any damage. Another part recalls every single
moment of the past several minutes: from the tiniest crack in a random stone to all drops of blood on
the pavement. The third part tries to analyze the overall situation and to choose the best moment for
escape. This part is the most dangerous. It sent many people towards an untimely end in a last grasp
for life, the last attempt to make an escape. All of the above was scary and yet fear was subdued. It

The Role Of Clara In The Battlefield

suffering. Clara became known as "the Angel of the Battlefield" because of the dedication and
compassion she had toward the soldiers. Clara was appointed by Abraham Lincoln to identify the
dead soldiers and to mark their graves. It would have been such a comfort for a family to receive a
letter from their soldier with his last words. Clara Barton touched the lives of the soldier's families
too. With the help of volunteers, she uncovered thousands and thousands of lost soldiers in
unmarked graves. Knowing that the soldier had died and was not missing in action brought closure
to the family. It keeps them from vainly hoping one day their soldier would come home. After

The Bentonville Battlefield

November 10, 2016
The Battle of Bentonville was fought in Bentonville, North Carolina, near the town of Four Oaks, as
part of the Carolinas Campaign of the American Civil War. It was the last battle between the armies
of Union Maj. Gen. William T. Sherman and Confederate Gen. Joseph E. Johnston (Barrett). It was
fought on March 19th through the 21st in 1865. The battle was the last full–scale measure of the
Civil War in which a Confederate army was able to mount a tactical offensive. This major battle, the
largest ever fought in North Carolina, was the only significant attempt to defeat the large Union
army of Gen. William T. Sherman during its march through the Carolinas in the spring of 1865
(Moore). In the week following the Battle of Bentonville, the country rang with the news of
Sherman 's fight with Johnston in the woods of North Carolina. Northern newspapers, including the
New York Herald, featured bold front–page headlines announcing the encounter, and lengthy
accounts of the fighting by war correspondents followed. But Robert E. Lee 's Army of Northern
Virginia surrendered to Grant just three weeks after the guns fell silent at Bentonville, and Joseph E.
Johnston laid down Confederate arms in his own theater on April 26, 1865. Occurring as it did "in
the midst of the collapse of the Confederacy," the Battle of Bentonville

The Galactic Empire is the largest military force in the galaxy, with their only opposition being the
Rebel Alliance. The AT–AT Walker is arguably the most powerful terrestrial vehicle at the disposal
of the Galactic Empire. The Empire employs the AT–AT onto the battlefield as both a troop transport
and an assault craft. The AT–AT has been deployed in multiple battlefield environments, including
the assault on Hoth and defense of the forest moon of Endor, with deadly effect. The AT–AT is used
when the Empire needs to assault an enemy position, or when a large amount of enemies need taken

One such weakness is its inability to attack anything behind its main body. The walker would have
to turn completely around to engage a target behind it thus exposing itself to the direction it was
previously facing. One of the most commonly exploited weaknesses of the AT–AT is it high center
of gravity, making it top heavy. One example of the rebels taking advantage of this weakness is
when the Empire assaulted Hoth. Rebel snow speeders attached tow lines toe the walker's legs and
wrapped the line around it until the walker got snagged and toppled over. The walker also has a hard
time attacking more than one target at a time. Another weakness is the flexible tunnel that runs
between the cargo and troop areas of the craft and the head. One direct blast to this tunnel detonated
the entire AT–AT. The platting on the underbelly of the walker is slightly weaker and easier to
damage. The AT–AT also has no way to protect against troops beneath its main body, where the
lightly armored hatch can be easily cut free and sabotaged. One other big weakness in the design of
the AT–AT is the fact that it is very slow compared to the smaller AT–ST. Also the terrain it is in can
limit it much farther, with it moving at its fastest on flat smooth ground and its slowest on steep
rocky inclines, and heavily forested areas like the moon of Endor where its usage was far less than

She was called the "Angel of the Battlefield", for her courageous actions and care for the wounded
soldiers ("The Biography" 4). It is outrageous to think that the only experience with medicine before
the war was when one of her brothers fell off the roof of the barn and she nursed him for two years.
Clara Barton had the natural gift to nurse; it was a second nature to her to tend to others. After the
war was over and Clara Barton thought about the chaos in the hospitals, she decided she would do
something. An idea was brought before her while she was in Europe. Dr. Louis Appia of the
International Convention of Geneva, also known as the Red Cross, visited Clara one day ("The

strength. Dr. Louis Appia talked to Clara about introducing the articles of the Geneva Convention to
the U.S. government. The articles formed the basis of the Red Cross, which was originally founded

signed up for the Red Cross after France declared war on Prussia and its allies. She was amazed
with how effective the Red Cross was; in four months of this war the Red Cross had accomplished

each of them. A failure that truly taught me a valuable lesson was the end of my senior football

Clara Barton's Angel In The Battlefield
"Angel in the Battlefield" the title given to someone who shaped the world as we know it. Clara
Barton was a world renowned nurse that accomplished everything she did through determination
and perseverance. Clara Barton was born on Christmas Day in 1821, her dad said that she was a
miracle. Clara Barton was the youngest of 5 children, two brothers and two sisters. Like any other
person, her childhood shaped who she was. Stephen Barton, Clara's father had a career in the
military, which greatly influenced her goals and dreams. When Clara Barton was about 11 years her
brother David was stacking hay in the barn and he fell. The accident cause David to become
seriously ill. Clara played nurse to him for two years, sparking her interest in becoming a real nurse.
As a young child Clara Barton "was blessed with intelligence and had an aptitude for schoolwork"
(Hamilton 20), that led her to begin teaching in May of 1839 at the age of 18 in district 9 school in
North Oxford, Massachusetts. During teaching, she felt like she could further her education in
women teaching, after 10 years teaching, Clara Barton felt she could further her education in women
teaching, so she left her small New England town and set out to New York, where she entered the
Clinton Liberal Institute. While attending school she quotes "I must have been born believing in the

The On The Battlefield Of Equality
On the Battlefield of Equality As Marilyn Monroe once said, "A wise girl knows her limits. A smart
girl knows she has none." The nineteen–twenties in America was a time filled with cultural, social,
and political boom. This decade, later called the "roaring twenties" laid the foundation of many
concepts and ideas still in use in America today, including automobiles, literature, music, and
patriotism. Women in the 1920s overcame the battle of obtaining suffrage and the advancement of
birth control; these challenges led to an embracing of new ideas in fashion, sexuality, and equality.
To begin, suffrage for women in America began in the mid 1800s and ended in 1920, when women
in America were finally granted with this well–deserved right ... Show more content on

Anthony) which, if passed, "would grant universal adult female suffrage" (Streissguth 37). After
years of the Amendment passing through the House, and then being defeated in the Senate, it finally
passed in the year 1919 (Streissguth 37). The Amendment then passed state ratification, and on
August 26, 1920, the secretary of state a the time, Bainbridge Colby, signed the edict stating that
"universal suffrage was the law of the land" (Streissguth 38). This fight for women 's suffrage was a
long and hard one for the American women, as it was difficult to progress the movement due to the
ongoing racism in America in the twenties, making colored and white women unable to lobby and
protest together (Dumenil 24). Regardless of the struggles faced by women in the movement, they
ultimately reached their goal of suffrage and equal rights once and for all. Continuing on, women in
the Roaring Twenties also faced the problem of being uninformed on birth control. Margaret Sanger,
a nurse who was moved by the despair caused by the unwanted pregnancies and children she
witnessed daily, almost single–handedly began the birth control movement in the early 1900s
(Streissguth 38). Sanger, eager to learn more and do something to help this cause, traveled abroad to
Europe to visit birth control clinics there, bringing back knowledge and new ideas with her

The Ethics Of Battlefield Ministries
Battlefield Ministries is a battlefield where the fight for families is constant. It is a Christian
counseling center with a focus on marriage and family counseling. Battlefield's slogan is "fighting
for families" and every time the counselors or office workers step into the office that is what they
are doing. For a place with so much fighting, it has an overwhelming sense of peace that flows
through every inch of the building. The peace is from the One who has already won the ultimate
battle and is present as Battlefield continues on in the fight for families. All warriors have a plan, or
an approach, to fighting and the same is true at Battlefield. Our counselors and other office staff
must decide on the theoretical approaches that will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Every call is just as important as the next, but my favorite calls are usually those from individuals
who want to become new clients. I usually scan a few files into our digital program, which has been
my biggest project while at Battlefield Ministries. Every physical file has had to be scanned into the
new digital program. Battlefield opened its doors in 1995, so this has been no small job. These are
only some of the many tasks I may perform while at the office. Some may seem menial and
unimportant to some people, but my experience at Battlefield Ministries is priceless. I may have just
been the woman behind the desk, but I still experienced the approaches that are most commonly
used in the office, whether in session or out of session. One theoretical approach that can be used to
best explain the environment at Battlefield is Carl Rogers' client–centered therapy. This approach
can also be known as person–centered therapy. Rogers believed that an important part of therapy
was the relationship between the therapist and the client. He believed this relationship should be a
comfortable one, which included the therapist being warm, genuine, and understanding to the client
(McLeod, 2015). As inferred by its name, client–centered therapy puts the importance on the client
and making the client comfortable. This also means that the client is responsible for doing the work
to make improvements, not the therapist.

The Battle Of Gettysburg At Gettysburg
Over the last 153 years Gettysburg, has moved from honoring those who fought and died during the
battle at Gettysburg to preserve the battlefield. Gettysburg went through two phases of change. The
first phase happened between 1863 –1938 and the second phase happened in 1938 when the War
Department transferred the administration of Gettysburg to the National Park Service. During the
first phase the National Cemetery was built in Gettysburg for the creation of a proper burial of their
now dead sons, brothers, and husbands. David Wills, a local attorney, purchased twelve acres on
behalf of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for the creation of a proper burial of their now dead
sons, brothers, or husbands. Wills selected the high ground of Cemetery Hill, a key piece of terrain
that had figured prominently as part of the union battle line. After the National Cemetery was built a
veteran of the Union Army and now New York Representative Daniel E. Sickles introduced a bill to
congress. On December 06, 1984 Daniel Sickles, introduced H.R. 8096 with little debate on
February 11, 1895 Congress approved an act to establish a National Military Park at Gettysburg,
Pennsylvania. Popularly called the Sickles Bill, this legislation established the federal park boundary
at 3,331.5 acres. The Gettysburg Battlefield Memorial Association (GBMA) deeded its 522 acres to
the federal government, which this formally established Gettysburg National Military as the fourth

strategy to work. Alexander would combine the Phalanx and the Calvary. First the Phalanx would
come right at Darius's army's main body; spears are out and Grecians run right towards the enemy.
While that happens, Alexander leads the cavalry, circling around Darius's army, waiting to wedge in

Clara Barton : Angel Of The Battlefield
During the era where women had the obligation to stay home, be homemakers, raise their children,
no voice in decision–making, and very few choices, Clara Barton was a revolutionary woman who
sacrificed her life to be of use and help others. Clara Barton was a pioneering nurse for a portion of
her life as she became the "Angel of the Battlefield", a teacher of the uneducated, an avid suffragist
of women's rights, and founder of the American Red Cross. She was a huge influencing factor
during the years of her life from 1821 until she passed away in 1912 and her work is still relevant
today.
Born on December 25th, 1821, in North Oxford, MA as Clarissa Harlowe Barton. She was the
youngest child out of 5. Her father was Stephen Barton, a farmer and state law maker who served in
the American Revolution, and her mother was Sarah Barton. Her parents thought she was a special
girl because she was born on Christmas Day, and her father mostly filled Clara with patriotism and
humanitarian interest.
Clara was an extremely intelligent young girl, at 11 years–old she took care of her brother who was
severely injured until he recovered completely after two years.¹ She learned medical skills used at
that time as well as to administer the prescribed medication. This taught her the significance of
patience with the healing process. At the age of thirteen Clara was really interested in aiding the
poor, and tutoring children. She only got better at nursing on her job, since there was no such

infrastructure onto a shell of a natural environment, and thereby inverting the circumstance of the

understand the threat of gem colonization through antagonistic imagery. Here, familiarity is warped

A Study On Stones River National Battlefield
The historical site I selected as the subject of my study was Stones River National Battlefield. This
paper concerns my experience researching the site, in addition to my experience visiting the site.
First, I will explain my reason for choosing the site. Second, I will discuss preparation for my visit.
Third, I will give a description of the site. Fourth, I will explain what makes the site historic. Fifth,
and finally, I will discuss my impressions of the site. A number of years ago, I performed for the
Williamson County Historical Society in Nolensville, Tennessee. The primary speaker at the event
was Larry Hicklen, owner of the Civil War relic store Yesteryear, which is near Stones River
National Battlefield. He was discussing Nolensville's involvement in the Civil War. He encouraged

chance to visit the battlefield, having previously been to the Carter House, the Hermitage, and Sam
Davis' Home, being well familiar with the last of these locations due to my having performed Civil
War–era music there numerous times. I was, unfortunately, largely unfamiliar with the events of the
Battle of Stones River, despite being a lifelong resident of Rutherford County. I searched for
information about the battle in four different American history books in my possession, two of

Stones River Battlefield Review
I visited the Stones River Battlefield located in Murfreesboro, TN. I chose this locating, because it
was close and convenient for me to explore in–between classes one day. I actually learned quite a bit
about the land and what took place there in 1862. Some information was giving to me shortly after I
enter their visitor center, and I was guided in the right direction to help me with my paper. I didn't
prepare myself too much prior to my visit, due to the fact I really had nothing in mind that I thought
I needed to do besides wear a good pair of tennis shoes to walk around the reservoir and of course
bring a friend. I learned that the battlefield is considered 650 acres and around 23,515 men died
during this three day period (Daniel). I had no idea this place was that big, and I definitely realized it
once I begin exploring the land on foot. The scenery is such a beautiful place to just unwind, go for
a jog, or have a peaceful environment to relax one day. The best part about the Stones River
Battlefield is that it is free to the public to go and explore around to learn about the civil war. The
beginning of my trip I started out at the visit center and actually spent most of my time there. As
soon as I walked in I was greeted by an elderly man who was very enthusiastic about his job. The
experience was very welcoming and the employees were very helpful. The man pointed me in the

Throughout the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, the ideals of conservation, protection, and
preservation became embedded within the development industry. Intensive periods of growth, urban
and suburban sprawl, coupled with the surge and education regarding environmental liability took a
toll upon the United States' national resources. Throughout this period in the Unite States, the
preservation movement developed into a network of National Parks throughout the country, in
addition to laying down the groundwork for the conception of preservation to be adapted within
other fields. One type of a historic site, which is arguably deserving of conservation, and frequently

In a report to Congress by the Army War College in 1925, it was recounted that the location of over
3,400 battles and skirmishes could be identified throughout the United States. Throughout the
nineteenth century, it became a concern that though the memory of the war and events that occurred
throughout the battlefields would remain, the actually location of these sites were disappearing from
the landscape. Many of these sites that were arenas of battle for the American Civil War were
located in rural areas and often unmarked and unable to be differentiated from the surrounding
landscape. The cultural identity associated with this land from a natural resource, to a tool of war
and conflict, can arguably be preserved, along with the associated cultural resources through the
process of battlefield preservation. Though the commemoration of battlefields through the use of
monuments began in the United States in the eighteenth century, the concept of preserving an entire
battlefield was a new practice. The exercise of preservation used to a new capacity resulted in the
creation of both national military parks and national military cemeteries, or occasionally a sequential
preservation application. Examples can be seen from battlefield sites such as Gettysburg, where the

Clara Barton : Angel Of The Battlefield
In times of need, when no one can any longer provide for their basic needs, one looks for help. In
times of war, injured and wounded soldiers look to their fellow comrades, doctors, and nurses.
When famine, disease, and natural disasters strike, one looks to any person that is capable of helping
them. Yet, one may wonder who these group of people are that come to their rescue. Organizations,
such as the Red Cross in the United States of America, are dedicated to better the lives of those
affected by such unfortunate events. Yet, the Red Cross is not a 21st century international
organization, but rather it dates all the way back to the American Civil War, or the War of the
Rebellion. Clara Barton, a shy awkward little girl who quickly made her name known during the
Civil War, and would soon be called the "Angel of the Battlefield". Barton risked her life to help
those in need, even if it meant her life was in grave danger. Janet and Geoff Benege, a husband and

most prized accomplishments, all while giving a timeline of the Civil War. In a small town known as

Love Is A Battlefield Metaphors In Relationships

  • 1. Love Is A Battlefield By Dominic Tierney Love is a Battlefield The article written in by Dominic Tierney, an associate professor of political science at Swarthmore, wrote an article based on the tactics of love and war. His general idea focused on how relationships are wars of love, which either lead to unity or distractions. Tierney's analytical approach to the relationship both within war and love are seen as investments of trust, which "take a long time to build and an instant to destroy." The focus of my concern is when the article speaks of these relationships becoming states of danger for militant and partners. Either communities no longer feel safe, which results in rationalization or withdrawal from the battles of war and love. Through the ending of a toxic situation, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Battlefield Vs. Call Of Duty Game BATTLEFIELD VERSUS CALL OF DUTY The Battlefield franchise is one of the top selling shooter games of all times. It is best known for its real–life recreation of all–out war. This game is a first–person shooter team based game. Almost like an arcade game with the guns on the side of it. Since 2002 the game has been loved by those who consider themselves game players. Battlefield was different from any other game you could know. Most shooter games are individual based, but what makes Battlefield different is you must work with a team. For example, flag football is a team based game you need everyone doing their part to capture the flag. No one has ever seen a game which required team effort online with random people before in the history of video gaming. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Within these franchises, they both accommodate the needs of gender without any bias stereotypes. The game is an interactive shooting game video game, which will contribute to the history of those individuals within the industry. Activision is the company that created this game. This franchise is known for its fast–paced online multiplayer games. Multiplayer is where you play with other players that have the same game as you (It is like playing chess online). With Call of Duty, you can talk to a person constantly with no wait within the game which requires a microphone? Nevertheless, with Call of Duty you are a lone wolf by yourself without anyone actively playing or interaction with others. You as a player must decide what's best for you even though you are on a team. Think about the saying "Every man for themselves "there the title provides the individual with insight or prior knowledge about this particular game. It is a war game, but it is more on a smaller scale it is not based on real life more on lines of a dream or an action movie that can't be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. The War On The Battlefield Wars aren't fought in a vacuum, and those who study the Civil War should know this. While the Confederacy lost the war on the battlefield, a failure to exam the social and political climate before the first shot fired on Fort Sumter and the furling of the CSS Shenandoah's Confederate Navy Ensign– the war's final surrender– does not capture the war's impact on the nation. Certainly, one can't discuss a war and never mention a battle. The field's foundation is in traditional military history, but I feel more comfortable discussing social history topics. When I began the semester, I felt I was staunchly in the social history camp. I wanted nothing to do with regiments, charges, and invasion routes. When I wrote the first paper on this same ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The process of defining what kind of Civil War historian that you are is a fluid process that needs to reevaluated as you become exposed to more information. The first book we read this semester was Paul Quigley's Shifting Grounds: Nationalism and the American South, 1848–1865. Quigley's work focuses primarily on the formation of Southern nationalism during the complex years before secession and Fort Sumter. Only the final chapters examines the years 1861–1865. I appreciated Quigley's framing of Southern nationalism within an international context. This goes against the southern exceptionalism trend that tends to permeates any study of the American South. Quigley's assertion the nationalism was a cause rather than an effect of succession is correct in my estimation. However, if the book is going to be considered a work about the Civil War, more than one chapter of it should deal with the ebb and flow of nationalism during the war itself. As a historian, I feel that establishing the origins of Confederate nationalism is an important part of understanding the Confederate war effort on the battlefield and on the home front, but as a historian, I'd like to see it evaluated more thoroughly during the War itself (Quigley). The second work our class read this semester was literature scholar Randall Fuller's From Battlefields Rising. Fuller attempted to exam the manner in which Civil War changed the view of America's ... • 13. Love Battlefield Metaphors Over the course of our lives we have heard many different metaphors and noticed their societal effects. One metaphor that people consider thought–provoking is that "love is a battlefield". People consider it thought–provoking because "love is a battlefield" can be thought of in many situations. Two situations that can be related to this metaphor include a struggle within a group and also a struggle within oneself. The first example of a struggle within a group could be when two people are fighting for the love of one person. This metaphor can be perceived in this situation in a way that when they are fighting each other, it is really the love they have for that third person or ideal fighting. A second example of a struggle within a group is when people in the group support different sports teams. There are some groups that take this conflict seriously. One of the most popular rivalries known around the Cincinnati area is the Xavier and U.C rivalry. "Love is a battlefield" can be perceived in this situation as the fans love for the sports teams competing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One effect of this alternate metaphor is the fact that it makes people believe that love is something that you can just talk about with someone or a group while "love is a battlefield" makes you believe that love is something you have to fight for. Some adjectives that come to mind when you read "love is a natural force" are: normal, friendly, and cooperative. However, adjectives that come to mind when you think about "love is a battlefield" are: anger, frustration, and regret. One example of "love is a natural force" is the regular feeling of love that you have for your family. When you are around family, you feel like they are looking after you and the love towards them feels natural and just flows out. So while "love is a battlefield" expresses the idea that love sometimes requires conflict "love is a natural force" just comes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

You know . . . A couple of paninis, one composed of two slices of French toast packed with ham and cheese, squash–baked in the panini press and served under a generous splash of maple syrup; and one filled with roast pork slices, peaches and cheese and toasted to perfection. Then it is only a matter of two lemon–curd stuffed beignets "apporté" and a rush to Ottawa International to catch a flight to Winnipeg, then on to Regina. It is obvious Manitoba's friendliness extends on over their western border. Residents of Canada's most prairie province, Saskatchewan, are super friendly, helpful and more. ... The area is marked with a pathway through which one is invited to walk and view the specific points of interest of the battle between General Custer's 7th Cavalry and the Sioux and Cheyenne. There is a visitor centre filled with "artifacts", many of which clearly appear to have a questionable authenticity, several rangers designated to deliver explanations and a lot of practiced monologue, and a film room where approximately 50 patrons can be seated to view a recorded narrative and hundreds of stills composed in something of a slide show. Outside there is a massive graveyard where veterans of many campaigns from the Indian wars through Vietnam, quietly sleep through the final resting place, although Custer's remains were exhumed many years ago and buried at Westpoint. The Battlefield highlight is Last Stand Hill, an area where the defeated soldiers and their entire company met there demise, complete with specific stones marking specific spots where the individual soldiers fell one final time. Nurses On The Battlefield Research Paper Garrett Avery Professor Markus Jones English 101 19 November 2015 Research Paper: Nurses on the Battlefield War is ruthless and no one is spared its wrath. Soldiers meet their end on the battlefield and in hospitals where nurses must wage their own war. We all know about the nurses in hospitals and local clinics, but what about the nurses who went to war back then and go to battle now with soldiers. Today they may be called combat medics or relief personnel. Without medical staff in wars and battles, we would lose a lot more troops to injuries obtained in combat. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Knowledge is power and if we do not know how to do something then how can it be done. Today, armed forces acquire many individuals who offer a set of skills necessary to achieving victory. Nurses just like everyone else in the military do not know what they are getting into until they are experiencing it for themselves. "Nursing in war is a unique experience regardless of education, preparation and training." (Scannell–Desch 3) As told by a military nurse in a survey, no amount of training readies you for the harshness of combat. One other military nurse talks about her experience in the military and how she learned through experience. "The skills I learned with all the traumas were very beneficial. I got to do things as a nurse that I will probably never get to do again." (Scannell–Desch 10) We as humans learn things every day to better ourselves and achieve more things. War is one thing that can never be understood and so humans cannot learn from the mistakes of war, but try different things in the hope of a different outcome. Nurses are not prepared for what awaits them in emergency hospitals in a far off country during times of conflict. With every new way humans find to kill each other, nurses must adapt in a harsh environment to deal with new injuries. Skills are taught and refined on the battlefield if someone chooses the path that leads to war. Nurses not only know how to treat physical injuries, but mental injuries as well. The most significant psychological injury inflicted on soldiers is PTSD or Post–Traumatic Stress Disorder. Military Nurses learn how to treat PTSD from nursing veterans who are treating the disorder today. "Nurses involved in primary care and emergency nursing can learn much from the experiences of those nurses who have worked with traumatic brain injuries (TBI), Post–Traumatic Stress Disorders (PTSD), alcohol abuse and substance abuse as ineffective ... • 25. Battlefield Medicine During The Civil War If you were a soldier in the Battle of Gettysburg do you think that you would've survived? The battle between the Union and the Confederacy lasted three days, from July 1, 1863 to July 3, 1863 and in the end the Union was victorious. The Battle of Gettysburg was the bloodiest battle of the Civil War. The medical knowledge and equipment that the surgeons had back then were no match the types of illnesses and injuries that the soldiers had. The people that were that got shot during the Civil War, either had to get a body part amputated, got their gunshot wound covered with a bandage, opened up the wound to get the bullet out and then patch them up. Three people from The Killer Angels that got shot and just got their wound wrapped with bandage were John Buford, Buster Kilrain, and a runaway slave. John Buford who was thirty–seven years was the Brigadier General for the Union and was a cavalry soldier. In the novel it states, "He had been hit once in the legs arm and the bleeding had stopped but the genuine pain was just the beginning. They had wrapped the arm and put his coat back on and he did not show injury"(146). Without proper inspection of the wound and removing it, this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 29. Antietam Battlefield The second historical landmark that I went to was the Antietam Battlefield. Located in Sharpsburg, Maryland, the battle of Antietam was a battle between the Union and Confederate armies during the Civil War. The battle was fought on September 17, 1862, being called the "Bloodiest Day of American History" with a total of roughly 23,000 men killed in battle. The Union army, led by General George McClellan, defeated the Confederate Army, led by General Robert E. Lee, which is surprising because while they passed the Potomac River, a piece of paper including the Union's battle tactics was left behind by one of the Confederate members. The Union then passed by the same spot weeks later and found this paper, which gave them the "advantage". 5 days ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Battle of Antietam was a monumental win for the Union, and for the elimination of slavery. The winning of the battle gave the Union a huge advantage over the Confederate, and this victory pleased President Abraham Lincoln. Abraham Lincoln had been waiting for an appropriate time to release the first edition of the Emancipation Proclamation, which meant that any and all slaves working in the Confederacy were to be released. This victory was tragic for the Confederacy because they lost all their slaves and they were at a severe disadvantage compared to the Union. Another monumental event that impacted American history is the moment where the Union soldiers discovered the Confederate's battle tactics. The tactics paper, called "Special Orders 191" written by General Lee, was originally meant for General D. H. Hill, one of his other army leaders, but thanks to someone's lack of focus, the plans were left behind and the Union was given the lead in the war. One prominent place related to the Civil War and American History is Dunker Church. Dunker Church was a building that resembled peace, love, modesty and positivity throughout its lifetime. However, the night before the battle, the Confederate soldiers were stationed around the church. This meant that the Union would have to attack the church, leaving it "battle–scarred". Dunker Church was collateral damage to the war and it's also where both sides agreed to truce with each other for this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The war determined whether or not this nation that was born declaring that all men were created with an equal right to liberty, or if it would continue to allow slavery and be the largest slaveholding country in the world. (McPherson). The Unit at Fort Sumter in South Carolina was divided because of the issues of slavery and central powers. About 620,000 men lost their lives while fighting for what they believed in. One way to treat any gunshot wound, more specifically in the arm or leg, is to apply direct pressure on the wound and to lift it above the heart to stop the bleeding. Gunshot wounds were one of the most common injuries on the battlefield and they had to be prepared to treat them and make sure their patient or soldier ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. The At The Stones River Battlefield On April 19th I recently decided to go to the Stones River Battlefield. In the beginning I honestly was very interested in going to somewhere I had been to before, but then I realized that I could use some new information in my life. I have recently be to the Parthenon in Nashville, and I like it there also, but I am glad that I got the chance to go to the battlefield. However, when it comes to history a part of me find it very hard to retain the information I have learned, and the other half of me see it kind of boring. The more and more I visit places to see and do hands on things for myself, the more it helps me understand what I have learned. With this being said, I am very glad to have attended the battlefield. Amongst my visit, I was a little confused on what I was doing, but I decided to get out of the car and proceed walking to the building. When I entered the building there was a tall guy who greeted me, he wore an outfit similar to a boys scout leader. He then asked me if it was my first time attending and I said yes. There was a couple coming through the door, so he greeted them both and then told us a little about the exhibit. He then instructed us on how to see all of the exhibit and gave us a map/brochure. I then walked away and started to look around on my own. At first what caught my attention is the models and some of the things written on the walls. I then noticed that even though I was reading it, I was not retaining the information, so then I started to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

From a young age, I remember searching through the internet to answer every question I had and asking my parents – both with PhDs – about the world around me. One day, I discovered a documentary: Battlefield Cell. In that moment, I was hooked on learning and had a problem I wanted to solve. This film opened me up to knowledge about viruses, bacteria, and other forms of pathogens. I poured over research about the cruel virus, the line between life and death; the insidious bacteria, proliferating and destroying cell after cell; and prions, simple in their destruction of the brain. The Battlefield Of Finding Yourself The Battlefield in finding yourself Career planning is a lifelong battle that can be intricate for anyone who has not yet closely studied their true drive in life. After completing high school, I had no idea what I wanted to do or what route in my life I wanted or needed to go. At the time, I was undeveloped and living at home with my parents. I did know one thing for sure, I had to work and make my own money in order to pay my own bills and to stand on my own two feet as best as I could. I was not totally thinking about any long term career goals. I was still going through the point in my life of finding what I loved to do and was all about having fun and enjoying life. One thing I did know for sure, I loved to shop, then again what adolescent doesn't. When I completed high school, I started out working in a very small retail fashion store and then, later on, went into several different food chains such as McDonalds and even tried waitressing for several months. Needless to say, waitressing turned out to be a calamity so I left that turf and never returned. After drifting from job to job for several months which in turn overextended into several years, I made a conscious decision that I needed to focus on a profession and stick to it so I took some time and re–examined my life and zeroed in on a career. I finally did that! In October of 2005, I enrolled in the Medical Assisting program at National Institute of Technology which was sited in Austin, Texas. My choice to ... A vision... a man is standing lit by a bleak sun under a grey sky... he stands at the crevice, which is filled with body parts, which seem to be human but at the same time to have come from toy humans. A man takes random people, pushes them towards this huge hole, throws them down... and they fall, slowly, as if the rules of physics do not apply. Once they reach the bottom, they fall apart as unrealistically as they were descending. One thing was clear – that man was killing all those random people. There was no reason, no motivation or goal. Just the gruesome process. I suddenly wake up. I am trying to understand where I am and what is happening. I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is scary to realize that it is a war. It is immensely scary that everything has suddenly become so real: not just a piece of news on television or the Internet, but a real time 3D experience, in which any wrong move can result in the permanent final end of life, losing the privilege to find out how this war will end. I am sitting behind the tree while the brain breaks everything up in segments. One part of the mind attempts to evaluate the defense of the body as well as any damage. Another part recalls every single moment of the past several minutes: from the tiniest crack in a random stone to all drops of blood on the pavement. The third part tries to analyze the overall situation and to choose the best moment for escape. This part is the most dangerous. It sent many people towards an untimely end in a last grasp for life, the last attempt to make an escape. All of the above was scary and yet fear was subdued. The Role Of Clara In The Battlefield It's tough to picture a little girl who had little to no confidence and was an introvert to grow up to be someone who will go out into the bloody battle fields and save soldier's lives. Growing up in the Barton home was not easy. Having three older siblings and parents Stephen and Sarah, who fought continuously, Clara felt like an unwanted burden to her family. Clara's mother was giving birth to Clara when her father decided not to call the doctor because he thought the baby wasn't worth the expense. This shows how Stephen and Sarah treated her and caused her problems in her future with her self–confidence. When Clara was three years old she learned to read and her brother Stephen taught her arithmetic. She was very intelligent so her parents decided to send her to school. She excelled in school and her teachers told her she could do anything with her life. She ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Clara became known as "the Angel of the Battlefield" because of the dedication and compassion she had toward the soldiers. Clara was appointed by Abraham Lincoln to identify the dead soldiers and to mark their graves. It would have been such a comfort for a family to receive a letter from their soldier with his last words. Clara Barton touched the lives of the soldier's families too. With the help of volunteers, she uncovered thousands and thousands of lost soldiers in unmarked graves. Knowing that the soldier had died and was not missing in action brought closure to the family. The Battle Of Bentonville : The Bentonville Battlefield Essay Central Carolina Community College The Bentonville Battlefield Clare Streeter III History 236–LN1 Robert Barnes November 10, 2016 The Battle of Bentonville was fought in Bentonville, North Carolina, near the town of Four Oaks, as part of the Carolinas Campaign of the American Civil War. It was the last battle between the armies of Union Maj. Gen. William T. Sherman and Confederate Gen. Joseph E. Johnston (Barrett). It was fought on March 19th through the 21st in 1865. The battle was the last full–scale measure of the Civil War in which a Confederate army was able to mount a tactical offensive. This major battle, the largest ever fought in North Carolina, was the only significant attempt to defeat the large Union army of Gen. William T. Sherman during its march through the Carolinas in the spring of 1865 (Moore). In the week following the Battle of Bentonville, the country rang with the news of Sherman 's fight with Johnston in the woods of North Carolina. Northern newspapers, including the New York Herald, featured bold front–page headlines announcing the encounter, and lengthy accounts of the fighting by war correspondents followed. But Robert E. Lee 's Army of Northern Virginia surrendered to Grant just three weeks after the guns fell silent at Bentonville, and Joseph E. Johnston laid down Confederate arms in his own theater on April 26, 1865. Occurring as it did "in the midst of the collapse of the Confederacy," the Battle of Bentonville ... The AT–AT Walker is arguably the most powerful terrestrial vehicle at the disposal of the Galactic Empire. The Empire employs the AT–AT onto the battlefield as both a troop transport and an assault craft. The AT–AT has been deployed in multiple battlefield environments, including the assault on Hoth and defense of the forest moon of Endor, with deadly effect. The AT–AT is used when the Empire needs to assault an enemy position, or when a large amount of enemies need taken out. The AT–AT is also utilized as a physiological deterrent. One such weakness is its inability to attack anything behind its main body. The walker would have to turn completely around to engage a target behind it thus exposing itself to the direction it was previously facing. One of the most commonly exploited weaknesses of the AT–AT is it high center of gravity, making it top heavy. One example of the rebels taking advantage of this weakness is when the Empire assaulted Hoth. Rebel snow speeders attached tow lines toe the walker's legs and wrapped the line around it until the walker got snagged and toppled over. The walker also has a hard time attacking more than one target at a time. Another weakness is the flexible tunnel that runs between the cargo and troop areas of the craft and the head. One direct blast to this tunnel detonated the entire AT–AT. The platting on the underbelly of the walker is slightly weaker and easier to damage. The AT–AT also has no way to protect against troops beneath its main body, where the lightly armored hatch can be easily cut free and sabotaged. One other big weakness in the design of the AT–AT is the fact that it is very slow compared to the smaller AT–ST. Also the terrain it is in can limit it much farther, with it moving at its fastest on flat smooth ground and its slowest on steep rocky inclines, and heavily forested areas like the moon of Endor where its usage was far less than the ... It is outrageous to think that the only experience with medicine before the war was when one of her brothers fell off the roof of the barn and she nursed him for two years. Clara Barton had the natural gift to nurse; it was a second nature to her to tend to others. After the war was over and Clara Barton thought about the chaos in the hospitals, she decided she would do something. An idea was brought before her while she was in Europe. Dr. Louis Appia of the International Convention of Geneva, also known as the Red Cross, visited Clara one day ("The Biography" 8). He had heard many good things about her and was inspired by her passion and strength. Dr. Louis Appia talked to Clara about introducing the articles of the Geneva Convention to the U.S. government. The articles formed the basis of the Red Cross, which was originally founded by a Swiss businessman (9). They legally bound the nations that signed to an agreement the impartial relief would be provided to the wounded, sick, and homeless during a war (9). Clara later signed up for the Red Cross after France declared war on Prussia and its allies. Even though it is difficult, I try to learn something from each of them. A failure that truly taught me a valuable lesson was the end of my senior football season. The events and lessons that I took away from this failure will help guide me for the rest of my life. I have always loved football. The nineteen–twenties in America was a time filled with cultural, social, and political boom. This decade, later called the "roaring twenties" laid the foundation of many concepts and ideas still in use in America today, including automobiles, literature, music, and patriotism. Women in the 1920s overcame the battle of obtaining suffrage and the advancement of birth control; these challenges led to an embracing of new ideas in fashion, sexuality, and equality. After years of the Amendment passing through the House, and then being defeated in the Senate, it finally passed in the year 1919 (Streissguth 37). The Amendment then passed state ratification, and on August 26, 1920, the secretary of state a the time, Bainbridge Colby, signed the edict stating that "universal suffrage was the law of the land" (Streissguth 38). This fight for women 's suffrage was a long and hard one for the American women, as it was difficult to progress the movement due to the ongoing racism in America in the twenties, making colored and white women unable to lobby and protest together (Dumenil 24). Regardless of the struggles faced by women in the movement, they ultimately reached their goal of suffrage and equal rights once and for all. Continuing on, women in the Roaring Twenties also faced the problem of being uninformed on birth control. Margaret Sanger, a nurse who was moved by the despair caused by the unwanted pregnancies and children she witnessed daily, almost single–handedly began the birth control movement in the early 1900s (Streissguth 38). One theoretical approach that can be used to best explain the environment at Battlefield is Carl Rogers' client–centered therapy. This approach can also be known as person–centered therapy. He believed this relationship should be a comfortable one, which included the therapist being warm, genuine, and understanding to the client (McLeod, 2015). Gettysburg went through two phases of change. The first phase happened between 1863 –1938 and the second phase happened in 1938 when the War Department transferred the administration of Gettysburg to the National Park Service. During the first phase the National Cemetery was built in Gettysburg for the creation of a proper burial of their now dead sons, brothers, and husbands. Escapism can be centered around any number of fantasies, however each one caters to some desire or shortcoming in our everyday lives. Escapism is directly tied to ideas of a paradiscal existence through the Pollyanna principle, which is a behavioral theory that states people seek out pleasant stimuli and avoid unpleasant ones (Matlin 1). The theory applies itself to both memory, perception, and imagination all of which are crucial to constructing ... Gems are made by injecting a combination of unknown ingredients into the earth. in the process, a portion of the planetary life force is removed making the immediate surrounding completely inhospitable to life. The location is shown as a deep canyon with humanoid shaped holes lining every wall. The machines used to inject the gems into the earth cling to the sides at all angles. Their design is distinctly reminiscent of bacteriophage virus, with large red diamond heads and spider like appendages. This setting is darker in tone than all others I've encountered in the show. The Kindergarten is representational of hell as it exhibits the "danger that the balance may shift from a minimum of well–being and security to and a maximum of discomfort and tension..turning the experience of paradise into that of hell" (43). In superimposing the alien infrastructure onto a shell of a natural environment, and thereby inverting the circumstance of the Strawberry Battlefield, the tone of the landscape changes to one of panic. The viewer is made to understand the threat of gem colonization through antagonistic imagery. Here, familiarity is warped by mystic influences to a point of discomfort. Each ... • 121. A Study On Stones River National Battlefield The historical site I selected as the subject of my study was Stones River National Battlefield. This paper concerns my experience researching the site, in addition to my experience visiting the site. First, I will explain my reason for choosing the site. Second, I will discuss preparation for my visit. Third, I will give a description of the site. Fourth, I will explain what makes the site historic. Fifth, and finally, I will discuss my impressions of the site. A number of years ago, I performed for the Williamson County Historical Society in Nolensville, Tennessee. The primary speaker at the event was Larry Hicklen, owner of the Civil War relic store Yesteryear, which is near Stones River National Battlefield. He was discussing Nolensville's involvement in the Civil War. He encouraged me to visit his store, as well as the battlefield. Unfortunately, as a college student, my free time is limited. Therefore, I found few opportunities to visit either location. I took this assignment as a chance to visit the battlefield, having previously been to the Carter House, the Hermitage, and Sam Davis' Home, being well familiar with the last of these locations due to my having performed Civil War–era music there numerous times. I was, unfortunately, largely unfamiliar with the events of the Battle of Stones River, despite being a lifelong resident of Rutherford County. I searched for information about the battle in four different American history books in my possession, two of which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

So Their ancestor would teach and train their children in the ways of the bow and the reality of war, putting them through trial as hunters. • 133. Stones River Battlefield Review I visited the Stones River Battlefield located in Murfreesboro, TN. I chose this locating, because it was close and convenient for me to explore in–between classes one day. I actually learned quite a bit about the land and what took place there in 1862. Some information was giving to me shortly after I enter their visitor center, and I was guided in the right direction to help me with my paper. I didn't prepare myself too much prior to my visit, due to the fact I really had nothing in mind that I thought I needed to do besides wear a good pair of tennis shoes to walk around the reservoir and of course bring a friend. I learned that the battlefield is considered 650 acres and around 23,515 men died during this three day period (Daniel). I had no idea this place was that big, and I definitely realized it once I begin exploring the land on foot. The scenery is such a beautiful place to just unwind, go for a jog, or have a peaceful environment to relax one day. The best part about the Stones River Battlefield is that it is free to the public to go and explore around to learn about the civil war. The beginning of my trip I started out at the visit center and actually spent most of my time there. As soon as I walked in I was greeted by an elderly man who was very enthusiastic about his job. The experience was very welcoming and the employees were very helpful. The man pointed me in the direction to a movie room, which is where I began. It was a short movie briefing the civil ... Joyce Meyer's Battlefield Of The Mind For Teens Battlefield of the Mind for Teens Joyce Meyer's book, Battlefield of the Mind for Teens, is a book that covers the hard, deep and heartbreaking thoughts and actions of a teens mindset. As a teen, Joyce Meyer dealt with every single thing she covered in this book. She used this book to not only release her story, but to help every teen who thinks they are the only ones that deal with the subjects wrote about in this book. Battlefield of the Mind for Teens studies and talks about the most damaging things that go on in a teen's mind and needs to be read and understood by every teen that is struggling. To start, Joyce Meyer jumps right into a thought every teen has, "Is my mind normal, or what?" Teens have bad, good, weird and stupid thoughts all the time. Not one teen will go through their teenage years without having some of the weirdest and dumbest thoughts imaginable. Teens will think that they are not like others because of some of the things they think of, but every teen has thought them. In Chapter 1, Meyer says "There is a distinction between normal and average, which becomes most important when you talk about the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 141. Civil War Battlefield Land Throughout the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, the ideals of conservation, protection, and preservation became embedded within the development industry. Intensive periods of growth, urban and suburban sprawl, coupled with the surge and education regarding environmental liability took a toll upon the United States' national resources. Throughout this period in the Unite States, the preservation movement developed into a network of National Parks throughout the country, in addition to laying down the groundwork for the conception of preservation to be adapted within other fields. One type of a historic site, which is arguably deserving of conservation, and frequently encountered throughout the United States are battlefields, in particular ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In a report to Congress by the Army War College in 1925, it was recounted that the location of over 3,400 battles and skirmishes could be identified throughout the United States. Throughout the nineteenth century, it became a concern that though the memory of the war and events that occurred throughout the battlefields would remain, the actually location of these sites were disappearing from the landscape. Many of these sites that were arenas of battle for the American Civil War were located in rural areas and often unmarked and unable to be differentiated from the surrounding landscape. The cultural identity associated with this land from a natural resource, to a tool of war and conflict, can arguably be preserved, along with the associated cultural resources through the process of battlefield preservation. Though the commemoration of battlefields through the use of monuments began in the United States in the eighteenth century, the concept of preserving an entire battlefield was a new practice. The exercise of preservation used to a new capacity resulted in the creation of both national military parks and national military cemeteries, or occasionally a sequential preservation application. Examples can be seen from battlefield sites such as Gettysburg, where the establishment of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 145. Clara Barton : Angel Of The Battlefield In times of need, when no one can any longer provide for their basic needs, one looks for help. In times of war, injured and wounded soldiers look to their fellow comrades, doctors, and nurses. When famine, disease, and natural disasters strike, one looks to any person that is capable of helping them. Yet, one may wonder who these group of people are that come to their rescue. Organizations, such as the Red Cross in the United States of America, are dedicated to better the lives of those affected by such unfortunate events. Yet, the Red Cross is not a 21st century international organization, but rather it dates all the way back to the American Civil War, or the War of the Rebellion. Clara Barton, a shy awkward little girl who quickly made her name known during the Civil War, and would soon be called the "Angel of the Battlefield". Barton risked her life to help those in need, even if it meant her life was in grave danger. Janet and Geoff Benege, a husband and wife writing team and authors of "Clara Barton: Courage under Fire", distinctly point out Barton's most prized accomplishments, all while giving a timeline of the Civil War. In a small town known as New Oxford, Clarissa Howe Barton, commonly known as Clara Barton, was born into a home of four siblings in 1821 on Christmas day. Her siblings included Dolly, Stephen, David, and Sally. Yet, Dolly was soon taken away from Barton's life, for her family suspected that she had a mental illness. Having lost one of her sisters, ... The victory and capture of Middle Tennessee and was important to Abraham Lincoln as without it the Emancipation Proclamation would have been ruined ("Tennessee Archaeology e–journal – TN.Gov", 2014).
