4. Big Centre TV – Picture format 576i (16:9 SDTV) – English.
Big Centre TV is a local television station in the United Kingdom, serving Birmingham,
the Black Country, Wolverhampton, Solihull and Walsall. The station was launched at
6pm on 28 February 2015 on Free view Channel 8, and is owned and operated by
Kaleidoscope TV Limited in partnership with the BBC and Walsall Studio School,
where the channel's headquarters are based.
Kaleidoscope –
Kaleidoscope, a Midlands-based voluntary organisation specialising in television
history, were granted a licence to establish a local television station in November
2014, following the collapse of City8, a proposed station centred on the Birmingham
area, which went into administration after failing to secure sufficient funding.
Kaleidoscope were given ten minutes notice that their bid had been successful
before an official announcement was made by the regulatory body Ofcom.
The new license, initially known as Kaleidoscope TV, was given an Ofcom deadline of
Saturday 28 February 2015 to launch. Big Centre TV is jointly run by Kaleidoscope
owner Chris Perry and former ATV announcer and television executive Mike Prince,
the station's director of programming who was previously involved with the aborted
City8 license.
5. Kaleidoscope TV will launch as part of the government’s initiative for a national
network of local television channels. The licence had originally been awarded to City
TV, a company that went into administration before getting on the air. After
administrators Duff & Phelps Ltd took control of City TV’s assets, numerous bids
were received for the company’s licence. Kaleidoscope TV was the preferred bidder
and after a stringent examination of the company’s finances and programming plans,
Ofcom has agreed to transfer the licence to Kaleidoscope.

12. Is There A Place For Local TV
Some of the reasons we need local television is, It gives us citizens of
Birmingham to show our skills and talent which consists in our area. National
news does not give us the opportunity as much, with our own channel the
community can stay updated with our own local news and entertainment.

The following areas have also been nominated their own broadcasting
channel, and were the 2nd or 3rd Biggest city so I believe we deserve our
own channel :
