- 2. What does a counselor offer me? Students experiencing temporary difficulties in handling family, social, and academic or other life crises are offered: Individual Counseling Workshops Referral
- 3. Individual Counseling A counselor: Talks privately with a student about life issues and problems Listens carefully to help define goals and support the student Works to increase student coping skills and self-esteem
- 4. Workshops A group conducted by a counselor which focuses on skill building in areas such as: Stress Management Time Management Test Anxiety Leadership
- 5. Referral Connecting students to community resources that can assist with: Food, bills, and family care Shelter and housing Abuse and victimization Long-term counseling and psychiatric medication assistance
- 6. Could counseling help me? Any issue of persistent concern is valid for counseling. Some examples include but are not limited to the following:
- 7. Anxiety Depression Abuse Trauma/PTSD Relationships Stress Grief Sexual assault Eating disorder Stress Family concerns Panic Attacks Self-Injury Alcohol and other drugs Suicidal thoughts Test Anxiety Difficulty with faculty/staff, classes, other students
- 8. How could I benefit? Definition/re-definition of personal goals Potential for growth and change Improvement of relationships Lessening of depression, anxiety, anger, or fear Increase in coping skills Increase in understanding the systems at work in your life Empowerment and increase in self-esteem Resolution of past issues Increase in satisfaction from life Connection to community resources
- 9. What does counseling cost? It’s FREE! TCL’s Counseling Services are available to all current students free of charge
- 10. Is it confidential? All information is strictly confidential between student and counselor. However, there are three exceptions: 1. If you say you want to harm yourself 2. If you say you want to harm others 3. If you report child or elder abuse **Remember, this is to keep you and others safe!
