BE. ACADAMIC PROJECT : "EXPERIMENTAL SETUP FOR FREE AIR JET"
The overall objective of the experiment is to use velocity measurements taken at various
displacements to demonstrate how a free uniform jet mixes with the atmosphere, A fee jet is
formed by flow delivered through a nozzle into an ambient fluid which is at rest.
A uniform circular jet of air is produce d through a 30mm diameter nozzle ,The airflow is
measured at various distances from the nozzle using the 365 (Mk 5) Portable Airflow Testing Kit
from Airflow Developments Ltd. The pitot tube is mounted on a slide in front of the nozzle
capable of traversing in both the x and y plane. It is attached to the manometer which is set to
the lowest incline position for highest sensitivity and zeroed to atmospheric pressure before
activating the jet, The jet is started and the pitot tube positioned at the center of the nozzle(0,0)
Manometer readings are taken at various positions of axial displacement along the centerline of
the jet moving away from the nozzle The pitot tube is subsequently position at a x displacement
of 60mm and manometer readings taken as it traverses vertically across the diameter of the jet
until the atmospheric boundaries are observed. This procedure is repeated at x=180mm and
x=300mm.

the best 300 series stainless steels. the most popular alloy for this type of service are pure
titanium (ASTM B348 grade2 ) and Ti6a14v alloy(ASTM B358 grade5).
titanium is most cost effective corrosion resistance material for application in the chemical
process industries that involve resistance to halides , unfortunately there are usually some
component in these system that involve the relative sliding-titanium tribosystems.
ex: nuts and bolts , valves , piping connections , etc...
