The Calgary Police Service is hosting its first-ever
Recruiting Expo, in Red Deer, this Saturday. Officers from
the Tactical, Canine and Traffic Units and other specialty
areas will be on-hand to answer questions and provide
insights about the profession.
The event takes place on Saturday, June 6, 2009, at the
Stockmens Pavilion in Westerner Park. Doors open from 10 a.m.
to 3 p.m.
There will be an on-site obstacle course and demonstrations
running all day. Watch canine officers demonstrate how they
use Service dogs to track criminals, tour the Traffic
CheckStop bus or watch the HAWCS helicopter land.
“Career seekers will have an opportunity to talk to officers
in different units about what it’s like to do their jobs.
They can find out what a typical day in the life of a Calgary
police officer is like and learn more about the application
process,” said Recruiting Unit Staff Sergeant Craig Skelton.
There are many interactive activities planned for the day and
it should be a lot of fun. Recruiters are hopeful the event
will draw in hundreds of people from the Red Deer area and
raise awareness about policing as a viable career option.
“In an economy plagued with unknowns and uncertainty,
policing remains a stable career option; couple that with
competitive wages, great benefits, a 25-year pension plan and
paid training, and you’ve got a good solid career with the
Calgary Police Service,” said Skelton.
With plans to hire 200 officers this year and between 100 and
150 in 2010, the Calgary Police Service wants to expose Red
Deer to the finest career in Calgary!
