CITYBEAT - CITY OF CALGARY PRESS RELEASE
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Calgary Police Service recruiters are gearing up for some
action at the Roughnecks' Western Division Semi-Final playoff
game this weekend.
Members of the recruiting team are setting up shop at the
game, this Sunday, May, 03, 2009, in hopes of attracting
attention from the crowd. CPS members help kick-off opening
ceremonies at 2:55 p.m. and the game starts at 3 p.m., all
this in the Pengrowth Saddledome.
Calgary Police Service Constable Ryan Avery, a former
Roughnecks’ goalie, will be taking part in the ball drop
ceremony. He’s a great example of how people from other
professions, outside of law enforcement, make great police
officers.
The recruiting team will have a booth set up inside the
Pengrowth Saddledome from 3 to 6 p.m. and recruiters will be
available to talk to anyone interested in learning more about
the profession.
“This is a great opportunity for us to plug into the
community and let them know we’re hiring. We expect about
12,500 people to attend Sunday’s game and we know that some
of them would make excellent police officers. We encourage
anyone with an interest to drop by and talk to us,” said
retired police Const. Carl Giddens, who now works as an
outreach recruiter with the Service.
The Calgary Police Service is hiring 200 police officers this
year and recruiters hope some of those people will be found
in the stands, cheering on the Roughnecks this Sunday.
“Anyone looking for a career change should come down and talk
to our recruiters. People from a wide range of backgrounds
make great police officers and our recruiting team can help
explain the application process and help them get on the road
to success,” said Giddens.
